Hi folks,

I have a day off tomorrow and would love to shoot a sunset or something interesting during the day...

My question is what do you look for in a weather forecast the night before??

Depends what you want to shot. Rough sea look for onshore wind incoming tide. Sunset some cloud. Ect

Me personally :sneaky:

I get up early and see the early morning, whatever time of year, can't beat it (y)

This is a useful tool for judging when and where the sun will be in any location, that and watching the local weather forecast.

Yea ive been getting up early morning to check things out... so really just keep an eye on the sky and local forecasts and hope for the best

Hi.

To get a decent coloured sunrise, you need to have a good long fetch of clear skies to our east while at the same time there is an advancing bank of cloud associated with a warm front moving in from the Atlantic, this way the sunlight from the rising sun has a chance to "undercut" the advancing cloud bank and produce that awesome colour effect.
To get the same thing at sunset time, it need to be timed with the back end of a cloud bank associated with a cold front retreating away to the east with a good long fetch of clear skies towards the west so that sunlight from the setting sun is able to undercut the overhead cloud bank and get those colours.
General clear skies with no clouds at all is just as pointless as general cloud cover as you end up with that bog-standard "holiday brochure" type sky. Also if there is too much thin mist or haze in the air, that can have the effect of "dulling" the "fiery red sun" effect by "scattering" light too much.

This is why the phrase "Red sky in morning, sailors warning. Red sky in evening, shepherd's delight" always seem to ring true. It really is all in the timing of those weather fronts and the rising/setting sun.

Thanks Ian, that really did explain things... i'm hoping for a decent sunset this evening, we had thick cloud this morning but seems to be dispersing now so lets hope for a decent one this evening

So I went out tonight to see whether I could get some good sunset colours... what you think?

Ah right thank you. Maybe I shouldnt use my Flikr app to get the code.

Bear with me guys, im going to do a few tests etc. Mods please delete any posts with blank boxes. Thanks

And then, two arrive at the same time :D
Get off that delete button - it's mine !!!

Seriously though Stuart, it might be just as well to start a new thread for your image if you want to get some critique on it and keep this one for testing.
We can tidy up afterwards.
If you're still having problems loading the image in a new thread, click the 'report' button and one of us will edit / fix it for you.

Haha thanks guys, I know your all busy... i will create a new thread later on and use this one as my testing room

For some reason you still aren't grabbing the BB code.

Do you think my problem lies with using my mobile? When I go to my browser on my phone Flikr reverts to the mobile site....
