I believe that you have put your finger right on the sore spot.

I learnt the hard way, many years ago, that admitting your mistakes, openly and as soon as possible, defuses a situation. Denying them exacerbates the problem to the point where they become the central issue. Once I absorbed and applied this principle, my life became much easier and far more productive. It's clear that neither the prime minister nor his principal adviser understands this.

That being the case, the anger created by their actions is entirely understandable.

The Telegraph requires anyone wanting to read its articles to sign up for a free trial which lasts a month and then £2 a week so unless anyone wants to do that it can't be read .I did Google to get it and only a short first paragraph and a few lines of the next are available.

A perceptive article by Fintan O’Toole on the Cummings/Johnson debacle saying that what they’ve missed is that this time it’s personal. He draws an analogy with the loss of authority by the Catholic Church in Ireland when people who had made sacrifices in their lives to follow Catholic instructions found the Cardinals & Bishops had been covering for child sexual abuse for decades.

He writes “... never let the people who think they are making a sacrifice realise that in fact they are the sacrifice.”

After reading the Metro article on Johnson's plummeting approval rating I noticed another dealing with the petition to support Cummings keeping his job (https://metro.co.uk/2020/05/25/four-people-have-signed-petition-dominic-cummings-keep-job-12755871/). Apparently it had, at that time, received 4 signatures but I've just looked and it's now at about 400 while approximately 3,400 have signed a petition to sack him and another to sack him has approximately 723,000 (all 3 are on change.org). Seems like Johnson has badly misjudged public feeing on this issue.
 
That is a wonderful model...the modern one I have here is s***e!,,

Back on topic I drove as normal to collect the wife from work and the town she works in was busier than on a normal day at school home time, with more cyclists and also pedestrians randomly stepping into the road to distance from others...

Not only that, but if you think it can take up to 5 days to show first symptoms, DCs wife may have (via DC) been the one to spread covid to Bojo!! :eek::eek::eek:

There was imo enough there to merit an independent investigation and it is I assume ongoing but maybe on hold for C19 reasons? I don't know when or if there'll ever be a final report. What I wouldn't support include demonstrations outside his home or calls on social media for attacks.

Maybe it will come out after the Tory one re the Russian interference in UK democracy that they refused to publish pre-election which we are still waiting on? :thinking::thinking::thinking:

If it was allowable in the first place the fines wouldn't have been issued. They're going to look at retrospectively changing the rules to protect Cummings?

There is a bit a of a precedent for this in that the Police in Scotland, fairly early on, appointed an Advocate (Barrister) to review how they were applying the Regulations, and there have been fines refunded where it was considered the Police were being overzealous or misinterpreting their powers.

I don't know if there is an equivalent in England, but I agree it won't look good if they now suddenly decide to review how fines have been issued, apparently triggered by this particular case.
