The virus. PPE. Part 1

Just a thought. Do you think there is any benefit in keeping a bowl if warm water with a decent squirt of washing up liquid in it to clean your hands. Would it be effective or not?

it is a bit harsh on your hands, but you would need more than a quick rinse. But it should be no different to many soaps.

It is what I use to wipe down shopping bags and packaging. while wearing gloves.

If people don't have to work in close proximity, why shouldn't they be. It would be advisable that they all travel independently though rather than all together in a builders van.
Just last week, I saw around half a dozen workmen doing some roadworks, they all had their own van parked at the side of the road, so they didn't have to travel in the confines of a van with someone else.

No we need a full martial law now with kill on site policy if virus effectiveness process to be different than expected :)

Until someone who has some genuine expertise in this answers...

The soap allows the virus to be dislodged from the skin, and can damage or even kill it.

The brisk hand rubbing then dislodges the individual virons and the running water washes them down the plughole.

Vigorous drying the hands is also considered part of the process as it can still remove virons that the handwashing missed. Hence, ideally, we should be using disposable paper towels, and certainly not share cloth towels. The importance of this last stage is, apparently why hospitals don't use electric hand dryers, but use disposable paper towels.

I used to work with a microbiologist who lectured on food hygiene and environmental health, and he would emphasise (before covid-19) that the physical rubbing under running water was just as important as the soap.

My instinct, is that you might be just washing your hands in a bowl of half-dead virons, which you now need to deal with, and you will still have some of the virus left on your hands, which you also still need to deal with

Wonder what they've done to upset him since the had his picture on their website

Saw this on a news site the other day, no mention of it being a labour candidate. How do we know it's a labour candidate other than the youtuber titling his video as such?

If it isn't her I'm sure we'll hear from her soon but regardless of her being a politico or not (and I suspect she could be from any political gang as they're seemingly mostly all the same.... humans) I do think she's an idiot if only for diverting staff and police from something more worthwhile they could be doing somewhere else instead of dealing with her.

Best case scenario is I suppose that she was drunk or otherwise off her head on something and was therefore a bit more rebellious and uninhibited than normal. Maybe in a more sober or responsible frame of mind she'll look back on this and regret her behaviour. Whoever she is.

One of the regular GP's on LBC who gives advice to callers said that Fairy Liquid (being one the washing up liquids that was very good at de-greasing) was ideal for wiping down surfaces/door handles etc. where the virus could lie and be transferred to hands. The reasoning being that the outer surface of the virus is greasy and FL etc. effectively dealt with it.

As far as I can see, she hasn't been named so why would we hear from her?

I wonder what the fear of yourself is called?

At a guess, autophobia.

our age group does not find asking for help to do things we can still physically do easy.

Took some persuading to get a list out of an elderly neighbour with mobility problems.

Plus gives you a chance to play with having a 'tache amigo!

No. Just no! Lemmy just about got away with that look but that was Lemmy!!!

BTW, thanks to you and all your NHS colleagues in these trying times.

The outer layer of the virus is made of lipid (fat) and detergent will disperse that leaving the genetic material inside without a way to get inside cells. Through washing will ensure that the detergent solution will get into crevices more thoroughly.

Note - doing this a lot will be really nasty to your skin, so make sure you use a good hand cream if you have to wash this way a lot.

In other advice, please leave the politics at the door guys - it really sucks.

*edit*

Thorough washing. Autocorrect - I've had enough of your shift.

She's been named and if I could find out who she supposedly is I think it'll be relatively widely known to people who hang about on social media and if that's the case I think we'll hear from her if she's been named incorrectly.

Just to be clear I don't care who she is and I don't attach any particular importance to her allegiance to any particular party as this is imo just personal idiotic behaviour.

Surprised to see home and hardware stores can remain open. A DIY boom?

B&M and The Range are still open near me. Looking at ‘the list’ I’m pleased to see pet shops allowed to stay open, our little chums need food and meds as well. Maybe this is how The Range etc are keeping open (pet supplies, cleaning stuff etc). B&M sell food as well.

Close them down. They don't get to trade. Only Tesco and Asda should be allowed.

If that's aimed at me...

The vid I posted has the heading it has and as it's the only version of it I saw that's what I posted. There's no political bias here from me. They're all worthy of the same respect / disdain as appropriate but this is (almost certainly) just her being a twit rather than official party policy :D

I did see the heading and I did have a brief look at the youtube poster but regardless of who he is and what his political views may be the vid seems to be, as far as I can see, a real event.

that is good because fairy is what I use but I am sure any of the strong washing up liquids or even floor cleaners would be as effective.

I was surprised at that but i suppose lightbulbs and things to do running repairs for plumbing and such like are essential.

We were talking about this yesterday. I wonder how easy it'll be to get a plumber/electrician/other in the days and weeks ahead.

as I write this the police helicopter is overhead ?

I've just got a txt from the govt saying I should stay home.

Is this a general message everyone with a smartphone gets or does Boris have a genuine interest in ME? :D or more likely, because I'm in a higher risk group?

My wife got one too.
I'm guessing it's network dependent though as I've not received a jot - guess I don't matter as much as her and you

Got one at 10 .15 this morning, the missus got hers a couple of hours earlier.

I also got one from the network supplier.

The fact that everyone seems to be worried about me is both comforting and rather worrying :D
