The virus. PPE. Part 1

Yes like many others I moved well away from the person as not wanting to catch whatever they had. Given all the advise out there someone like that is clearly beyond reasoning don't you agree?

You did right, give folk like that a wide birth.

I’ve just spoken to my sister and she has told me that my niece is caring for COV-19 victims in the North East.

She has been doing this with no protective mask. The hospital hasn’t received any yet.

I’m now seriously worried for her.

Plexi-glass is in place at most shop counters over here now, with markings on the floor where customers in line are to stand, some stores having a limit of only 3 customers at a time in store [mostly seems to be chemists doing this thus far] and many have tables set up at the doorway with masks, hand gel and gloves.

This is very odd, as even local newsagents have masks and gloves available for customers here. I presume she's a HCA working in a hospital or nursing home of some sort? It is shocking if they don't have a good stock of disposable masks

Perhaps, but I've taken to standing back and shouting UNCLEAN at the top of my voice and pointing at the person, followed with a loud "cover your mouth no one wants your virus"

Thats bad, I hope she fills in an incident form for every shift done like that!

Not sure if your brave......or stupid.

Shocking!

She’s a nurse at a large hospital.

I only know what my sister told me, but I didn’t want to enquire in too much detail for fear of upsetting my sister.

My sister said that my niece and her fellow nurses regard the P.R. coming from the government and health authorities as outright lies.

The family next door have done just over a week of quarantine and have another week to go. She's a nurse who dealt directly with a confirmed infected patient and has remained asymptomatic. Her husband has had flu-like symptoms and his daughter has had classic Covid-19 symptoms. There are no plans to test them. I'd like to ask if I could get a blood sample from her to evaluate, but there would be issues over the ethics.

Regardless of the numbers coming out of other countries, at this stage it is of no use discussing mortality rates in the UK because there is no reliable data.

Not sure if your brave......or stupid.

I wouldn't put myself in either but Im biased.

However, I have no problem embarrassing people into doing the right thing in the middle of a pandemic that literally is killing thousands.

When it comes to the ICU facilities, ventilators and people to man them, I'd agree with them wholeheartedly. Im back in on Monday and will be going for mask fitting so will see how we are doing on the PPE front. I hope Im wrong in my expectations.

Ethics indeed, they are going to play a hell of a role in the ICU criteria in the coming weeks I bet :-(

The latter I imagine, trip to A&E beckons if you pick the wrong person

Ah yes, well to be fair I expect nothing less from you given your continual trying to get a rise out of me a few pages ago. Maybe I should have added "......after a risk assessment."

But as it's you.........<sniffs bait></walks away>

If they were a carrier, then they spit in the face and that`s it.

If they were positive then a 2 metre spit would almost rule them out as positive to be fair. :exit:

I went into work today, (I work in a hospital). The car park payment machines are located in all the entrances/exits of the hospital, (it’s an ANPR system - you pay on exit.) All the machines have signs on them ‘please gel your hands after using machines”. All the doors have signs ’please gel hands when leaving/entering the hospital.’

You know what I’m going to say next don’t you?.....

All the gel machines (around a dozen) around the hospital were empty. The porters stick labels on them when they need topping up and date the labels. The two machines by the outpatients and A&E entrance have been empty for three days.

Jesus Christ, you are joking?

Edit to add: Be too simple to make all parking free too I guess which would reduce transmission hugely!

Indeed, but I don't have to answer for those, and PHE will have done more work already than I'm likely to do even given a free hand. But it's hard not to be interested and want to explore.

You seem to have a thing about people baiting you.

I know it's weird innit? But it's preferable than arguing with irrational / argumentative / trolling / scaremongering (delete or choose as appropriate) people and giving the mods more work so..... :cautious:

True.

Or maybe it's not them but you.

Read what you wrote again, embarrassing more than anything else,
Can you imagine shouting out unclean to someone in public.
No, nor can I

:LOL::LOL:
Sorry but I have to laugh at that, it`s like from Medieval times :D

That's fine, until you embarrass the wrong person.....you won't be much use to your colleagues if they end up nursing you......:)
Sniffs> lays bait^ sniffs again~~runs away....

Im really intrigued to know why you automatically think a) everyone is so violent and b) why you seem to care for me so much? It's a little creepy. You're not Uncle Fritzel are you?:LOL::LOL::LOL::LOL::exit:

Although we obviously live in such a non violent society, I don't care for you at all, just hate the thought of you potentially taking up a hospital bed unnecessarily.
Sniff.....
