Ah well north wales WAS virus free till last night .. when some muppet decided to go to Wrexham A&E and tested positive ,there now trying to find anyone that was there and half the hospital is on lockdown .bloody muppets

Not that it's not accurate but its the same as any other article in the media that says use soap and water and if you can't then use alcohol based hand rubs so it's just recycling the same information thats been about for about a week or so already?
True, but at least he gives reasons why it effective and better than alcohol which you can verify with further research which is not true of the other more general exhortations which are not believed by some.

Some stringent new measures there from the government, advising oldies to give cruises a miss.
Maybe they should suspend the oap bus passes, save them making unnecessary journeys.

Events carry on and schools remain open, have the accountants worked out the savings this virus might bring?

Hmmmm maybe but very simply the advice has always been soap/water and alcohol gel if not available from CDC, WHO, PHE etc from day one.

The govt has advised anyone with a temperature or a persistent cough to self isolate for 7 days.
They have also said that even though the current official figure of UK infected is currently just below 600, they estimate the actual figure of infected is between 5k and 10k.

Not been able to find alcohol gel/sanitizer for the past couple of weeks. Plenty of soap (and too much bloody water!) available - shelves of "non-anti-bacterial" soap/handwash beside empty slots for the anti-bac stuff...

I’m not disagreeing, in fact the general advice for ages (nhs web site I think, without checking) is that soap & water is best but there are people who think it’s not true (too simple) and will prefer spays of what they see as magic chemicals :(.

Supporting my point at #1409, I think :)

I’m watching Lask (Austria) v Man-U..a Euro game and only 500 spectators have been allowed in. They‘re obviously on the same side of the ground as the cameras as I haven’t seen any. Quite strange. First time I’ve seen this , no atmosphere of course, makes quite a difference.

The virus itself is bad enough but I do worry for all the small business in this Country. Whilst most will recover reasonably quickly from the virus I fear people's livelihoods won't.
I'm sure wedding togs must be very concerned about weddings being cancelled or actually stopped.
For these reasons we do need to act responsibly and 'remove our stiff upper lip'

I usually visit my brother once a month but he has an elderly in-law living with him, runs a small business and works in the public sector - we agreed visits probably aren't a good idea at the moment.

Yup.

Problem is that Mrs Nod has a Yoga studio and while there are hand washing facilities, it would be good to have some sanitizer available as well. At least she got a 100% rebate on her business rates this year.

No planning. If they’d painted all the seats blue they could’ve ’dropped in‘ some cgi waving, shouting fans :).

Computer Generated Imaging https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Computer-generated_imagery like they use in Hollywood these days :). Actually they wouldn’t need cgi they could just use film/video of real fans on the analogy of canned laughter in radio shows.

I'm just happy that they managed to finish Game of Thrones before this all kicked off.

You’d think after the continuous advice on tv/radio, newspapers etc re ‘not attending surgeries or hospitals(A&E) that person would not have done that. Maybe he/she lives alone because, surely, a family member would have suggested calling 111.

Good old Tories, in touch as ever.
Those isolating need to use a separate bathroom.
OK then, better just move into the East wing for the duration

We live in a Victorian cottage, lucky to have one indoor bathroom, original occupants didn't.

What about people north of The Wall???!

Oh no wait that's still Game of Thrones...

(y) When I first started watching the game it did occur to me , as a joke really, that they use the equivalent of that awful canned laughter, as you suggest and then I thought it’s too hard. Applause for a good pass swiftly followed by outrage at a foul or a wrong decision by the ref. Booing when a particular player gets the ball..sometimes one who’s changed clubs or past incidents that the player has been involved in and diehard fans have an extraordinary capacity to ‘never forget’..lol. Conclusion ?. give that one a miss..:)

Sorry, know nothing about Game Of Thrones, my daughter did get the first series.
Didn't think much to it and gave it away, is it wizardy s*** type stuff?

My wife said gel causes the skin to become dry. I was in Sainsbury’s today and they have plenty of soap. I picked up a couple of twin packs of what we use anyway..Dove..’Beauty cream bar for soft smooth skin‘ :D I counted 24 ingredients on the list .It’s made by Unilever and in Germany too so it must be good :)

I am a bit unclear on the new advice.

I have had a stinking cold with a fever since Monday which has knocked me sideways and have been working from home in case. Basically most of the symptoms of Covid-19, my greatest claim to fame is that I feel equally as rough as Tom Hanks.

But today I have developed a dry cough, as has my wife and daughter but they have not had the same cold-like symptoms in the previous days. When do I start my self isolation from, last Monday or today?

Do I need to wait until everyone in my house has gotten to the end of their isolation period before I go back to work? My wife is lovely, for the weekends and evening, but a whole week is asking a lot!

Bars of soap get better when older — dry out and don’t dissolve away when used but still lather up :)

Did you actually measure your temperature or just ‘feel’ feverish?

Alcohol based mixtures can produce skin problems (so do a lot of washing up liquids), but a moisturising cream helps.
I use soap in the house, but a gel is handy after being in a supermarket etc.

My missus has had a cold, that's all it is though.
No malaise or fever, plenty of sneezing and hooter blowing though.

I had a headache, quite a few actually, but seeing as I have chronic cluster headache that's not really a surprise.
Allergies have started up too, bloody tree pollen blowing all over the show

Fair point I hadn't thought of the knock on effects for "suppliers" etc.

Its no secret that I really don't like football. But it will be a real shame if that does happen.

But as above there are suggestions that gatherings ( open air) will be restricted to no more than 500 people.
No idea what football stadiums hold, but I'm guessing its a lot more than that?

Capacity varies ...... Man City..55,000..Spurs new stadium 62,000....

I was kinda surprised that went ahead ...

Cheltenham Festival

Too many stable doors to close?:exit:

That 4-day event was never going to be cancelled..well, maybe it just got in,in time before the clamp down. I addressed this issue last Tuesday late evening about the enormous loss of revenue and not only for the race course and the cynic in me had me believing that ‘words’ were had with those in government that mattered. It’s on page 31 . Hopefully, this link will show it.

Cobra..if you expand your post I quoted there’s an answer to your stadium capacity question..well, not a question as such.

I guess that’s a no then to measuring temperature:). Night sweats can have other causes ;(.

"From member of the Stanford hospital board. This is their feedback for now on Corona virus: The new Coronavirus may not show sign of infection for many days. How can one know if he/she is infected? By the time they have fever and/or cough and go to the hospital, the lung is usually 50% Fibrosis and it's too late. Taiwan experts provide a simple self-check that we can do every morning. Take a deep breath and hold your breath for more than 10 seconds. If you complete it successfully without coughing, without discomfort, stiffness or tightness, etc., it proves there is no Fibrosis in the lungs, basically indicates no infection. In critical time, please self-check every morning in an environment with clean air. Serious excellent advice by Japanese doctors treating COVID-19 cases: Everyone should ensure your mouth & throat are moist, never dry. Take a few sips of water every 15 minutes at least. Why? Even if the virus gets into your mouth, drinking water or other liquids will wash them down through your throat and into the stomach. Once there, your stomach acid will kill all the virus. If you don't drink enough water more regularly, the virus can enter your windpipe and into the lungs. That's very dangerous. Please send and share this with family and friends. Take care everyone and may the world recover from this Coronavirus soon. IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT - CORONAVIRUS 1. If you have a runny nose and sputum, you have a common cold 2. Coronavirus pneumonia is a dry cough with no runny nose. 3. This new virus is not heat-resistant and will be killed by a temperature of just 26/27 degrees. It hates the Sun. 4. If someone sneezes with it, it takes about 10 feet before it drops to the ground and is no longer airborne. 5. If it drops on a metal surface it will live for at least 12 hours - so if you come into contact with any metal surface - wash your hands as soon as you can with a bacterial soap. 6. On fabric it can survive for 6-12 hours. normal laundry detergent will kill it. 7. Drinking warm water is effective for all viruses. Try not to drink liquids with ice. 8. Wash your hands frequently as the virus can only live on your hands for 5-10 minutes, but - a lot can happen during that time - you can rub your eyes, pick your nose unwittingly and so on. 9. You should also gargle as a prevention. A simple solution of salt in warm water will suffice. 10. Can't emphasis enough - drink plenty of water! THE SYMPTOMS 1. It will first infect the throat, so you'll have a sore throat lasting 3/4 days 2. The virus then blends into a nasal fluid that enters the trachea and then the lungs, causing pneumonia. This takes about 5/6 days further. 3. With the pneumonia comes high fever and difficulty in breathing. 4. The nasal congestion is not like the normal kind. You feel like you're drowning. It's imperative you then seek immediate attention."

Yep. I hadn't, and still don't assume it to be Covid-19, it could well be a cold. But as of this afternoon, the advice is that I should be self isolating to be safe. I just don't know when that should start from, the first symptoms or the cough.

Sigh...its yet another load of crap.

Have you dialled 111?
They do have a test which will save you a lot of hassle if you don't have it. Our hospital has a drive in/out bit for testing. But I presume you need to have an appt which is likely arranged through 111.

I did this morning, but they just reiterated what was the advice at the time. If I have knowingly interacted with someone with Coronavirus, or have returned from a high risk country in the last 14 days then I can be tested, but as I did not meet either of those criteria I was not eligible to be tested. There was a testing centre 5 mins away from my house so thought it was worth a go, but it seems not.

But now the advice has changed, there will be no more testing and if you have the possible symptoms then you self isolate for 7 days. The containment phase was always destined to fail.
