The Viltrox 85mm 1.8 Mk ii ( Fuji) has blown me away!

I got a Viltrox 85mm Mkii today brand new for the princely sum of £170( usually they seem to go for about £260, but I got this on a clearance deal from Facebook marketplace).

Grabbed a few shots with some of my kids out on a walk and I have to say, for the price, that I am absolutely blown away by how good the lens is.

IQ, build, and AF are fantastic. The nearest Fuji equivalent lens (90mm F2) is 5 times what I paid for this one.

This was shot at F1,8 and apart from some chromatic aberration which was easily fixed, I cant fault it.

Im seriously contemplating selling my Fuji 56mm 1.2 for the Viltrox 56 1.4 and putting the extra money towards a body upgrade ( and Iove my 56 1.2!). If the AF is on par with this one then it will be faster than the Fuji 56mm.

I think having cheaper 3rd party options for Fuji shooters can only be a good thing, and I'm really glad I took the punt on this one.
 
Can't argue with that, lovely shot.

I wish somebody would come up with a long Fuji fit telephoto lens, 400mm +.

I have the Mk1 version along with the 23mm and 33mm and I genuinely can't fault them.

For the price its hard not to!

I'm tempted by the 56mm too but I willxwait for a bit before I get it (the wife would kill me!)
 
I have the mk1 and it seems great , though I haven't had as much chance to use it as I would have liked, what with one think and another

Paid £150 from the FB guy which is crazy

The one slight issue I had is I found myself feeling a bit far from my subject , but the that's not really the lens's fault...

Need to shoot it more to learn the focal length



I have the 50 f2 so don't think the 56 will add much for me

I also have the 27 and the 18 - 55 but keep on looking at the 23 and 33 lol

I was in a similar position to you.
I had the 18-55 and some spare cash lying around so I bit the bullet and sold the zoom and used all the cash to get the Viltrox 23, 33 and 85mm as well as a Samyang 12mm.

If I get the Viltrox 56mm I think I will be happy with my prime setup.

You are right though, the 85mm take a bit of getting used to re focal length/working distances etc but it is a stellar lens when everything falls into place.
 
The 18-55 is just too handy when for travel and stuff, I take that and the 27 and its as minimal as it gets.


The 23 is calling to me though :)


I am sorely tempted by that 12mm ... never shot anything that wide back in my Nikon days either
 
Cracking lens [had the mk1, same only lighter] - I found it handled CA really well even wide open, better than some other 85mm lenses I've tried [Canon/Nikon]

Be wary though, of the 4 Viltrox AF lenses to date the 85 seems to be the best for CA control, the 56mm from what I've seen seems the worst, really needs stopping down to 5.6 for it to fade away. I sold my 85mm but plan on re-buying when i think I'll use it more, did consider the 56mm but after watching some reviews not so sure

I couldn't find anything to suggest better AF when I was researching the lens, could be more that the mkII comes with later FW, the mk1 requires an update that does improve AF

Reviews claimed the faster auto focus but they also noted that the mk1 was no slouch in that area though
