Notice The TP 52 Challenge for 2021 chat / discussion thread Week 52 Showcase

Fursdi eve Fursdi eve RAH RAH RAH!!!!!!!

On to week 45 ..

Snappers Choice

Just a quick question - for the composite technique, can one/part of the resultant image be from a photo not taken by me, or should everything in the image be shot by me? No a problem if it does, but I have a (vague) idea that might work if I can use another image....

My thoughts were a composite from your own image(s)
But of course who sticks fully to the "rules" anyway? :D

Thanks Chris - I'm more than happy to stick to the rules, so no problem. It was just a thought I had. (y)

I think I'll have another go at this 'free lensing' technique. Don't want to be beaten!

I'm expecting to see the sign=up thread for 2022 any day now. Are we all up for it again?

Don't think I will, it's a real struggle when I'm working and the weather is poor.
During lockdown it was easy as I could get out. But photography indoors just bores me.
Might do a 12 though.

Perhaps I should Wait and see before doing that.
Going on the past posters in here over the last few months I doubt that many will respond ;)

TBH Simon, the "rules" are no more than guidelines it's your challenge :)

Might do a 12 though.

Keep an eye out on Marc's ( staff) signature.
He's doing POTY next year that'll be a 12

I didn't sign up for this year but have been practising for the last couple of weeks. I will certainly give it a go for 2022.

Excuse my ignorance.
What’s a “POTY”?
Photographer Of The Year
Its a lot more stringent than the 52's and there is ultimately a winner.

Is POTY still going on here? I can't find any posts dated since 2017.

There was a massive errr well lets just say that it ended on a sour note, in 2017 ( a very long story) and no one wanted to pick it up again.
I asked Marc if he fancied resurrecting it for 2022 and he agreed.

I am someone who, despite everything, has got this far in the 52 challenge for 2021 and, disasters permitting, should complete it for the first time (perhaps not all the tech though). I think I may well be up for another 52 in 2022. I fear, on the downside however, that there may be few of us left, but on the upside it would make commenting much easier especially in the light of earlier revelations wherein people can open their pictures to critique thereby removing the ramifications of tit-for-tat remarks -- 'you didn't like mine, so I don't like yours', kind of thing. I'll certainly have a look at a future POTY challenge. I have just given up one hobby -- beekeeping -- in favour of photography, in great part because photography doesn't sting (apart from in the pocket) so have more time for this.

............I've sort of lost the point of my post here, too much wine,...

...ah yes, Challenge 52, POTY, whatever, bring it on for 2022. I have my duster out and have cleaned all my equipment, I am waiting and ready to go, whatever the forum brings.

I will continue with the next 52 as well and also give the 12(poty) a go.

52 for 2022 - Hell Yeah!

As Martin has suggested I suspect that it'll be poorly subscribed next next year.
Quite a few dropped out this year. :(

I'm quite keen to continue. Although I post a lot of 'fluff', it does at least keep me thinking about photography and trying new and different things. I also think it's one of the nicest parts of the forum to hang out.

I haven't checked the spreadsheet, but I can see numbers are down.

Some of the problems about commenting is the number of catchup images posted. I much prefer to comment on the current week without having to wade through past weeks. But that's me - maybe too lazy - must try better.
But I'm up for next year if its a go-er. I'll see if I can persuade any more of my camera buddies to join.

I find catch ups quite hard to comment on too…. I find it hard to remember what I’m doing this week, never mind last, but to be fair, I think people don’t expect the same response if they are posting late - I know I don’t.

I hate doing catch-ups, but needs must when your behind. I don't expect people to comment all the time on them, i myself much prefer browsing the global submission thread find an image i have something to say and doing it that way. Also check to make sure every thread has at least one comment from me.

Thinking about it, i actually really enjoy it all, but only when i can get outdoors. Indoor photography does nothing for me at all.

I wanted to complete at least one (this is my 3rd attempt) and I'm hoping to manage it. I won't be doing it next year though as it's not for me - mainly as I don't enjoy shooting digital any more and doing it on film has been... tricky... I'm also kicking off my classes again next year which just eats free time.

I've enjoyed it. Have seen some great photographs, and just getting inspiration from some of the participants has been worth it. And I'll get a book out of it too, which is always a benefit. Commenting has been "sporadic" for me - guilty as charged and it's been great to get feedback on my images. Looking at a photo, then taking the time to think of something to write, then writing it, is time consuming and brain consuming - which is probably why I tend to do it in bursts.

I do recall that there was a non-competitive "12" in the past, but I think it ran out of steam and it was more about techniques (IIRC). The FPOTY is kinda like a 12 as it's not really competitive and I'll carry on with that next year.

I would definitely be up for it again - this is only my second year.

Certainly during look down it's been something to look forward to (and dragged me out the house when we were able).

I have found myself getting a bit lazy of late and photographing things very near me, but I still look forward to the brief each week and thinking of ways to approach it.

I also tend to only comment on the current weeks postings, and I think your comment is fair to assume and fair to do.

I will definitely sign up for next year. It's gives me an extra impetus to my picture taking.

I think for the Halloween one I'm just going to have to visit a graveyard or something.

Is Dave @-Oy- sleeping?

I have missed my wake up call

:D

Me too.. and I think the poster will understand. It gets too much if you try and comment on absolutely everything.
I'm up for next year.. it gives me the impetus to get out and about otherwise I believe months could go by without my camera seeing the light of day.

Well it looks like I'm being talked into it again. :D
Although there is a fair chance that I'm out for next year, there is more to
running the forum than I first thought TBH.
And to that point, I'm really struggling with this years now.
But I'm determined to finish one way or another :)

Tim & Alison are happy to keep the sacred scrolls again next year so thanks to them.
