Perhaps a bit late now.......

Take care of yourself mate

Only just seen this thread, if you're still waiting for your flight and see this, all the best for your visit to your folks. Hope you get back here soon and don't forget to post some pics of the camel racing and some abstract dune piccys.

Good luck to you and your family

Thanks, :p .. camel races is just what I want to see ... and can't wait for the season to start.

I wish you all the very best and hope to see you soon back on TP.

Thank you :)

Ugh.....I missed this thread. :bang:

Take care and have a safe journey, Wail. Hope you can get back on TP, we'll all miss you M8 :(

:) thank you very much. Not much to miss on this thread .. just a nomad starting to feel homesick :p

Me too, best wishes for the future, take care.

Thank you :)

:( All the best mate. Hope you can stay in touch and get on here as much as poss.

Have an awesome time in the sun of SA. Keep snapping away.

It's sunny 24/7 here. Well, not exactly that, but close enough. It's freakingly hot and humid and hot and sunny .. did I mention how hot it is here .. not hot in that women are in skimpy outfilts (men in :eek shorts, for the women members here). It's hot as in tempertatures in the mid 30C to lower 40C!

You are right the internet does make it a small world. I am sure we will still see you on TP.
my tip: Get a good and cheap postal service sorted. Nothing else will seem to have changed.

Sadly, as advanced as Saudi may seem; the postal service to here isn't that great, especially if I'm sending / receiving such large items as camera gear etc.

I will have to find a way to get around this, but for now I just want to get online.

Yeah missed this thread too. So all the best from me.

Thank you .. seems that all is fine and dandy now.

Only just seen this

Best of luck Wail, you have been a credit to the forum since joining, hope all goes well and you can get back over here in the future

Hey, that is very sweet of you and thank you.

Argh I missed this too :( Good luck with the move Wail, hope you can come back online to TP soon.

I'm baack, as Arnold would have is say!

Go with God...and be sure to come back as soon as you 'get connected' again...

.. and here I am

Hey Wail! good job on getting connected .

Warm enough for you? ;)

Aaah, don't get me stated on this ...

First off ... Thank you to each and everyone who's posted here, or not ... and to all those who've maded this forum so hospitable.

Just to update ....

Thank the All Mighty, my father is doing well .. much better than I had feared. I am staying with him, for many reasons, and will continue to do so for a while to come, at least until I am safe in knowing that he is well enough.

On the Internet side, I've today installed Wi-Max, whatever that may be  .. and here I am.

Thankfully I have checked and can access this site .. and what a relief it has been to know that I am back to bug you lot :) ... I've also checked if any of the "special" sub-forums are blocked or not .. all is accessible

Other than having to look out for my father, and spending time with the family catching up on the latest gossip, new developments etc. I will spend the rest of tonight going through the various thread etc. to see what I've missed over the days.

:D sorry about the weather reference, I know you prefer it here.

Glad your Father is doing better and that you're having the chance to be with him.

Good on you getting Wi-Max too! my man wants it as the Net on the outskirts of Dahran is flakey at the best of times but they can't have it yet.

:) no need to apologies .. it's just that whales / wails don't like basking in the sun that much. Would much rather artic weather, rain, snow, etc.

I'm still in a bit of a daze, it's been 19 months since I was here. It was the first time in my life that I spend so many months (all 19) in the one country (UK). Plus, the country has changed dramatically in many aspects in these months.

As for the Internet, I haven't the foggist idea what Wi-Max is  .. all I care about is that I can connect to the Internet wirelessly from home and at a good-enough speed. Funny, but I would have thought Dahran area (Eastern Saudi) would have far better Internet service as Aramco (hear oil in that name) is based there .. and they have all the resources they should need

WiMAX, meaning Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access, is a telecommunications technology that provides wireless transmission of data using a variety of transmission modes, from point-to-multipoint links to portable and fully mobile[citation needed] internet access.

Hi Wail,

Missed this thread entirely. Glad you have managed to get back on line in Saudi. Would have been harder in my days when I worked out there.

Really wanted to meet up, had I seen this thread from the beginning I would have made the effort. So this means you must let us know when you are back over.

Look forward to meeting you sometime Insha'Allah.

Regards

Chris
ps Daughter loves the D200!

All the best Wail and enjoy life, family, friends etc and remember that's what it's all about :) Hope you keep involved with TP!

:)

Thank you very much, and it's a pitty that I've never really met anyone from TalkPhotography :shake: ... should have done a bigger effort with the various Meets that were organised :'(

It's amazing how things have changed here! I have been gone for 19 months and it seems like a whole different country. The people are much more relaxed, there are so many different social clubs and activities (even a good number of photography ones ).

But no matter what, UK will always be "home" for me. It's where I've spent morst of my life, and I will always keep my flat there (God willing), so that I can take a quick get-away whenever I feel "home sick".

I hope to be back in UK by July .... if so, then I will make sure to PM you and may be we can get together for a drink.

As for the D200, like most of the stuff I've sold, I live to regret it .. but I am very happy that it's found a nice home. I am already looking for another one and have spoken with Nikon's dealer to source a clean one for me .. of course it'll have to be 2nd hand.

All the best Wail and enjoy life, family, friends etc and remember that's what it's all about :) Hope you keep involved with TP!

Regards
Steve

Thank you very much ... I'm totally enjoying my time here as I'm being spoilt rotten by family and friends ... that, and I've managed to get a lot of zoom & prime lenses for a great bargain vs. UK prices .. and even vs. US prices. The only thing, I don't have the time to go and shoot around. I have to start focusing a bit, and finding a suitable theme which I am happy with.

As for TP, it's another place that I've found to call "home" .. and now I can't live without it.
