Over the last couple of years we have managed to control condensation problems in our bungalow with a mixture of ventilation and a dehumidifier running 24/7. Two days ago we got our electricity bill, so like you do when that thing arrives, I started looking into cutting costs here and there and thought I'll put the dehumidifier on a timer and just run it twice a day instead of 24/7. Never again will I try that! The silence was deafening, we havn't been able to sleep, I can't concentrate when working on the computer, my wife can't read, I can't even play my guitar properly. Dehumidifier back on 24/7. Normality restored, sod the leccy bill.

Have you looked into the root cause of there being so much moisture in the house? That would make me crazy.
I know what you mean about noise though.

Most condensation is caused by normal living (breathing, cooking etc) and cold walls, windows etc.

Is your house insulated and double glazed - but even double glazing can get quite bad condensation when it gets cold outside - my bedroom is prone to this even with DG - my method of getting rid of it is to leave the windows open in the daytime with the door closed so as not to spread cold air around the house.

And shut the kitchen door when I'm cooking and have the kitchen window open.

My house is insulated and double glazed.
Bedroom window is open at night regardless of weather, but never once had condensation issues...not even in the coldest weather.
But then I don't keep my house overly warm either...personal preference.

Some houses like ours are just bad for it. Old house, old glazing etc. landlord just had the cavities insulated so hopefully this year will be better.

Winter is a nightmare, especially when you can't get wet clothes outdoors.
