I recently got hold of this book by Desmond Morris, dates to the 1980s. Its a highly interesting read, and makes me think about other aspects of footie when shooting. Since there haven't been any games in the last week or so, its been something to do and I've started a blog post . Anyone else read this book? Any thoughts?

I was reading the bit on referees, and how they fall into defined categories. The ref at tonite's Man Utd/Fulham match definitely fell into one of them, with his exaggerated body language. He is what is known as a 'flashy ref'.

Most interesting is that since it was published in in 1981, it was before the major introduction of sponsorship and massive transfer fees, which are referred to as being present in the USA sport. Funny what seems to cross the pond. I mean €30 million for Van Persie this year. In 1981 it was Bryan Robson for £1.5 million. Wiki mentions Cristiano Ronaldo for £80 million from Man Utd to Real Madrid in 2009.

Since I seem to be posting for my own benefit here, I will indulge myself. In addition to different types of referees, there are also (unsurprisingly) different types of supporter. I asked on the fans forum, but most are too coy to own up to fitting into one category of another. I am just going to have to observe and make my own mind up.
