Can someone explain it to me please, I think I know but would like it confirmed :bonk:

Cheers

This may not be the official explanation, but it is the way I use it. I try to align horizontal points of interest one third of the way from the top or bottom of the image. So if it's a horizon do I think the sky is more interesting than the foreground then the horizon goes on the lower horizontal third. If I am undecided, I'll take two shots with the horizon on both thirds and consider which is better on the screen. It's the same with vertical points of interest, pick the third you think is better. I do both again and decide in the computer. Experts probably have a better explanation and more interesting techniques. I hope that helps.

Pretty much as I thought, thanks very much for the links.

I can honestly say I've never conciously used the rule of thirds when composing any photographs, I dont really follow any of the 'rules' of photography though.

but remember rules can always be broken! its what looks best to you that matters.

Great link, lovely examples.

Another rule of thirds-whatever the price of your camera body you can guarantee you will spend three times as much on lenses lol.
