It's like watching the kettle boil, that's why I'm through here browsing TP. the wife taped it earlier and is watching it now.

I like the originals, but the specials try too hard! Started out funny, but tailed off.

Agreed. The special tonight was laboured and the script was predictable and very thin. The older actors did their best but ...

I liked the originals and thought they were clever but found last night's just silly.

The bit where someone was at the door and they didn't know who it was just dragged on a bit too long IMO. It would have been funny if they had done the joke and then moved on.

Twiggy was good as ever :D

Yep, Twigs was good but although it was funny in parts, didn't overwhelm me like the first couple of series did.

Killed an hour very quickly though :D

I said to the MRS "tape it" and the kids looked at us both and said " what do want a tape for", lol KIDS:lol:

cracking series.

it was just plain silly as all christmas specials should be!

"what about desert denise?"
"well we thought we;d go traditional christmas with pudding, we're having vienetta"

Need to watch more old episodes.....

Just to be clear, I meant that the frozen turkey and how to rescue such a disaster before guests arrive has been done in various forms by many sit-coms over the years. The Royles was (and still is) a really clever, well-observed and funny programme. I just think those earlier episodes, particularly the first series, didn't deserve this poorly written and tired Christmas special.

I'm all for silly comedies, Bottom and the like are some of the greatest ever, but the subtle ones are great too. It's when the subtle ones get silly, they get crap!
