I have a 400d Canon and have the basic lens, would like to buy a zoom lens for mainly wildlife. Have seen a Tamron 28-300mm which seems a good lens, also the Canon 75-300mm, which one should l buy,any advice would be most welcome.

If it's the cheap, non-IS Canon 75-300mm lens, I would steer clear. It's a tad soft and, whilst you can get a decent image out of it with proper technique, there are better lenses around for similar money. What sort of budget have you got?

I would like to only spend £200-£300 on a lens, wife wants new bathroom, she would not be amused if l spent our savings on camera equipment.

For that budget, about £180 more like, I would recommend the 55-250 IS. This is a great lens that gives sharp photos and I found it to be incredibly versatile, from small bugs to birds and other wildlife. I was always able to get a fairly good crop from the images as well.

id also suggest the 55-250mm IS, its brilliant, a perfect upgrade to the basic kit.
