The question of style.

Your style of photography. In particular but not exclusively your style of wedding photography.

This question has been raised in some areas of the forum and I'm not sure if this should be in the business section/people so it can get moved if needs be.

How would you define your style. Does it define you? Does it define your clients?

Are you still trying to find your niche or is having a broad spectrum better for you?

There is a rise in a retro/vintage style of photography in the wedding market and people often talk of 'modern composition' vs traditional styles. Is there such a thing?

We had a particular way of photographing weddings. Whether that was a style, and whether it defined us and/or our clients, is something that I have never considered.

It became obvious to us in our first year as full-time professional wedding photographers that we could do one of two things. We could try to appeal to as many couples as possible, or we could try to target a particular section of the market. If we did the first, it was obvious to us that we'd end up competing on price, and we'd be likely to remain as bottom-feeders. In order to try to target a particular section of the market, we had first to identify our target, and then get enough experience and confidence to start going for it. That took us maybe 3 years.

Probably, but ATEOTD who cares, apart from the girls who write wedding mags and wedding blogs, and some wedding photographers?
