THE PP GAME!

Have you taken over thread cop :police: from Phil

Morning John.... I could be Phil's deputy, but I'm not paying for the privilege.. Not sure the hat would fit me anyway.. :police:

We don't need a thread cop anyway, from the rules :rules:
.................."Risky editing" will be determined by the jury of the forum.......

I think we all have our own idea of what is far enough and seem to stick to it.

Cracking shot Helen, glad you didn't pass up your chance for us to have a go at it.

I wanted to bring out the colours and lights in the reflection, as well as darkening the sky.... Couldn't do those two things without masking off the sky and darkening it seperately.

So I did.
2 exposures from the RAW file, merged in PS.
cloned boat from lower right corner
Tiny straighten (ACW)
tiny crop

Hi Cathy, what is the "normal" duration

Sorry to jump in on this thread again but not sure if Cathy will know as she's only been around a short while. It is up to you to decide how long to give but around three nights is a good average. For those who miss it they can soon take part in the next round but you decide but give a day/night & time for those (like me sometimes) who are last minute entrants.

 All sorted now

John, I'm sorry you felt you had to say that. I don't feel I've told you or anyone else what to do, nor have I suggested that I feel anyone has broken any "rules".. In fact I openly applauded Rhodese's edit where the whole sky was flipped, and stated I had no problem with your putting in a replacement sky and complimented your execution of it.

One thing I will agree with is that life is too short, so suggest the game continue and trust that the judge of each round will make the right choice.

Thanks John

Ok please edit by Sunday Morning, I'm looking forward to seeing all the results

Graham - You've had some fantastic edits in this thread and your input is appreciated however, I can't see any problem with John's edit - in fact, I think it's a pretty good one!

The main point to it being OTT is "does it look authentic?" - I didn't read the post before the image so was surprised to see it was two images blended.

*bear in mind* that every person will have a technique they use often - Neil tends to like using his Topaz filter a lot, I use my detail technique a lot and John appears to like the challenge of image blending. I don't see why we need to put a cap on what someone thinks makes a good image...

edit 2, which kind of leads me to having to state my position on John's edit, which I also have no problem with in this round. It complements the image and has been done well.

Thankyou Phil, kinda what I said in my earlier post.

John I dont see any wee emoticons in the quick reply lol!
Guess I am in the wrong place. :) I use keyboard for my smiley

Interesting edits, I'm already compiling my thoughts but will leave you in suspense

Well done Helen, I wish I could just nip out for five minutes and shoot that.

I am not sure how far I can go, as in some edits outside elements have been introduced.
In this edit, I have created a light beam; I would have liked to have added a moon, but was not sure about the rule.

Well if I had known what effect, a small passing remark would make. I’d have said nothing.

On to my edit, (Nothing Controversial, I hope.)

Open in ACR, auto, open in PS.
Copy layer.
New layer, drop a 50%grey grad from top to lower building line then adjust opacity to suit.
Back on copy layer, clone out boat bottom right.
SAVE.
Do a bit of selective sharpening using the sharpen tool at 20%.
Dodge and burn.
Flatten.
SAVE.
Select all, create border with stroke command.
SAVE.
Save for web.

FEEDBACK OK.

Hmm 5 mins away but took a far bit longer to find composition, plus I came off my bike on the way, this image cost me pain :(

Itching to show you all my edit and something to go with it that's historical interesting

Well done on you edit too
H

If all edits are done earlier, I'm not aware how many are the norm, let me know and I'll judge

What I meant was my location, to get to anything photographic is a jaunt.

I've noticed some have not requested feedback and some have

I'd like to give some reasons for picking or not picking a winner, think it adds to debate and clarity

Or just pick a winner and leave it at that ?

Just make sure write your feedback as your opinion, not how it 'should' be - we've had a lot of the latter lately.

My edit:

Here's how it started in ACR:
1375324_10153340717030305_1699432531_n.jpg

-Then made a new layer and applied guassian blur to the water.
-Made a new layer and applied noise reduction
-New layer and applied my preset in color efex
-Corrected horizon line.

10mins
Feedback OK.

Things are hotting up :)

Nice edit Phil

The problem with this one is whichever technique I tried it looked the same

So enjoyed experimenting with Picasa, LR, PE & CS6 (trial) & ended up using the usual sliders in LR to get the shadows lit a little, highlights down a lot, exposure up a lot, clarity up a bit, vibrancy up a bit, contrast up a bit, fiddled with whites & blacks then tried sharpening without ruining the sky which was hard so selective sharpening on the boats & buildings.

BUT it still looked boring so overlaid, soft more with reduced opacity, another photo (and I really daren't say what it was) to get some interest especially in the brown bits of sky that were left. But it added to all the photo so that was it.

Spent about 30 minutes experimenting

FEEDBACK fine

John, another fine attempt and different :)

Ps, I'm loving elements from each, it's going to be hard to pick a winner

No one wants to win really as it is hassle sorting out a new piccy. As you know!!!!!!! Falling off bikes and all that.

Quick edit in LR - Auto toned then Upped exposure, clarity and contrast, lots of sharpening and noise reduction, then grad filter at the bottom to lighten and bring out the lights, and at the top to darken the sky.

Took about 10 minutes. Feedback welcomed.

Matt another good edit

Stumbled on this page, thought Id have a go :)

Mostly edited in Nik Color Efex using selective control points, detail enhancer and reflectors.

Cut out the sky and reduced the saturation with a curves adjustment.

If I were judging this round I wouldn't have a clue where to start as there are so many good 'uns'. So it would be names in a hat

Helen what time are you calling it tomorrow in case of last minute entries. A few rounds ago I closed one at 8.00 p.m. & Neil put an entry in at 7.58 p.m. & I chose him.

As del boy once said, the later the entry, the closer to the top of the pile ;)

I'm like to call it later today but as I said Sunday morning I'll stick to it, Say 10 am ?

here's mine, I wanted to warm this up a bit and give it an analog film look.
