Not been around for the last couple but thought I'd join in again folks.

Crop to emphasize the subject
Quick Grad to boost the sky
Play with the Saturation and Hue sliders to get the sun tones back out.
Fill Light
Sharpened
Exported to CS2 and created 3 copy layers. Desaturated the second and overlayed with Gaussian Blur. The 3rd layer was set to Soft light and Opacity to 30%.

Oh! my word you have all been busy I had no idea this image could turn out with so many different looks!
Loving it! :)
As I only posted the raw file today I will pick a winner by lunch time tomorrow if that is ok.
Cathy

This was a lot of fun and thank you so much everyone.
Now considering what I gave you to work with the results were fabulous!

I am in no position to tell any of you anything as I am new to all of this but here are my thoughts.

1st Ben
Ben in all honesty this is exactly how the picture did look on the evening. You enhanced the real image from a bad capture taken by me. Well done!

2nd Spooner
This is how I would have wanted the image to look if I had been lucky enough.I loved the colours very well done.

3rd Graham
Graham it was hard to choose between your version and Spooner's as both were excellent. I just preferred the detail and colour of his sky.

Neil - Well done! On my Mac yours looked a little too yellow but I may be wrong,
Smam - Well done! Would have liked the island still to have been there.
dTEA -Well done! Maybe a little too much HDR looking for me.

That being said take a look at my edit and you will see you were all great!

Ben all over to you now!

Added a multiply layer.

You're welcome & it looks like it will be others that will be learning from you as well

PS Where's Ben with his piccy - having a long lie in over the weekend

Maybe Ben's waiting for a few more congratulatory words before he graces us with his image...

Love what you did to the grass on this one, really gave a great draw into the image!

cor blimey ben.... you don't make it easy on us do you!!!

Clicking does go to a larger version if you want.

OK - opened in CS2....

upped exposure, brightness, shadows, contrast and saturation...
Duplicated layer, desaturated....
Layer mask and painted back in kitty....
despeckled all except the cat a few times
sharpen with high pass filter
crop
saved
opened in Picasa, applied 1960's filter
opened back in CS2 and masked back out the cat from this filter.....
Large, light vignette, followed by heavier smaller one.

And one other thing...
(Achieved by a bit of cloning, text, distort, add noise)

20 mins of my lunchtime.... comments welcome as usual.

Cat by juggler100, on Flickr

RawTherapee:
WB correct & boost exposure
Gimp:
Duplicate layer in overlay mode
Crop
Big old reverse S curve adjustment
Reduce saturation of blue, greens and cyans to almost nothing
Tweak hue of magenta chanel to alter collar colour to fit the palette of the remaining colours
Despeckle and high pass sharpen cat's features & paws

Sorry Ben  I couldn't resist & sorry Phil (Thread Cop :police: ) but I just can't get any serious inspiration :bang:

Just done as joke & I will remove if anyone offended.

Hi Simon.... nice to see it can also be done with free software. Welcome in..

Neil.. he seems to have outgrown his shadow too... :naughty:

Like it john... good skills there. Normally if I do something like that I'd duplicate all the cats and then decide to do the eyes and have to do them all individually.

IMG_5593-2 by btyreman, on Flickr

here's my final edit, it looked a lot better with less noise and sharper in lightroom for some reason...maybe it's something to do with ppi settings?

anyhow...

in LR5;

cropped,
used radial brush on the cat to lighten,
used paint brush set to 'iris enhance' preset on the iris in the eyes,
blacked out the registration using brush tool.

the winner this time is Overbez/graham, I like what you did with the reg and it's well processed,

over to you!

 Nice one Graham

Thanks Ben. (And Cathy and john).

Thought my lucky streak had ended.. some amazing jobs done on the NR that last round.
Will get the nest one posted up this evening.

Yes john. I did mean next.

Its a church on the Thames at Marlow from on the suspension bridge.

Open in LR4 basic black white shadow and highlight adjustment.
Adjusted verticals slightly to make arch more upright.
Add some clarity, crop, export as tiff.
Topaz b and w filters to convert
brushed some more detail on church.
Resize and save as jpeg

Feedback preferable.

DSC_6355.jpg

Straighten. B/W.
Fiddle with all the basic sliders.
Then a few gradient filters - one for the sky then some angled ones to the sides including one from below to darken the suspension cables.
Bit of dodge/burn with the adjustment brush.
Split toning with orange and blue shades to add some warmth.
Vignette.
Export.

Cracking edits so far...... I'll call this one tomorrow (Tuesday) morning....

Just tried my version of Rawtherapee (haven't used it in ages and opened fine.... version 3.0.1.0)...

Also, I just converted it to .dng with Adobe's free DNG converter, and the dng file also opens fine in RT.

DNG version linked below.

beyond that....
