You don’t ask a lot do you David.
Get rid of swirls, how the heck?
After a lot and I mean a LOT of experimenting and faffing about, I came up with this.
Now I know the pro’s amongst you will be saying well why didn’t you do this or that. Well the simple answer is, I’m a novice and need to be told, shown, so please tell me, show me.
Open in Adobe RAW, made no adjustments, it looked fine to me.
Open in PS, copy layer.
Isolate car, make a selection around car, contract by 1 pixel, feather by 1 pixel.
SAVE.
Copy and past into new layer, rename layer (car) make a selection of all panel shut lines,
Copy and save into new layer, rename layer (panel lines).
SAVE.
New layer, fill with average blue sampled from lower car, position layer under car layer.
Apply layer mask to car layer.
On the car layer, layer mask.
Set back and foreground colours to black and white. With the foreground set and using a soft round brush at 75% opacity, paint over the side of the car, cover the swirls.
SAVE.
Switch to background, white, (X key). Drop brush opacity to 20%, little by little paint back highlights (not the swirl areas). Also, paint back wing edges, air intake features, and the like.
Switch back and forth (X key) until it looks OK.
SAVE.
New layer, sample blue from car and apply a 100% grad from top of image to coast line, adjust opacity to suit.
New layer, select yellow from the grass on the left edge, apply a 100% grad from bottom to rear wheel of car, adjust opacity.
SAVE.
On background copy layer adjust levels, bring sliders in to ends of the histogram.
Make selection along coastline and top of the car including all the sky, lens blur 20%.
apply photo filter, warm 82 at 30%.
SAVE.
Back on car layer make a selection from under the rust at the rear of the car, feather 1 pixel, copy and paste into new layer, transform scale and move over rust, tidy up.
Clone the red out of the rear view mirror.
Dodge the screen chrome work, wheels, tail pipes, rear lights, side repeaters and the reversing lights.
Clone out strange shape from rear reflection.
Burn shadows under car.
Overlay the panel lines layer, burn in.
SAVE.
Flatten image.
SAVE.
Crop to 3x2 format, levelling horizon.
Spot out man and ship, content aware fill space left by crop on right hand side.
New layer, select all, sample foreground colour from car name, stroke, 6 pixels inside selection.
