Welcome to the game!

If you are looking at this thread, like me, you are most likely really into your post production work and may, like me, want to better your skills. I would like to open my eyes to the endless possibilities one shot can offer.

The rules:

The owner of an image must post and await people to reply on this thread with their best attempt at retouching the image as well as HOW THEY ACHIEVED THE LOOK. Once it has been up for 1 day, the owner of that image must then make the last post their own retouched version of the original image and choose the best version (excluding their own) as PP king. The PP king of that image will then post an image of their own they think has potential to be great.

The image may be any genre.

The image must be straight off-camera with no previous PP applied and a RAW file would be even more appropriate.

Only one image per person.

The PP King may supply a RAW file, if so, use www.yousendit.com and email to yourself (king) then share the host link here.

The Decider (previous PP king) must choose a Winner and runner up. The crowned king will have 24hrs to post their image, failure to do so means the game is automatically passed down to the runner up where he/she must then assume responsibility to continue gaming.

"Risky editing" will be determined by the jury of the forum. This jury consists of the next 5 votes (or decision made by PP king if time runs out) and the major majority of votes determine whether borderline edits stay in the game.

Adding to improve the image is allowed, this does not include foreign objects that clearly do not belong, or improve an image's presentation.

*For example* extracting some clouds from one image and planting them in another is fine. Cloning a person from one part to another is also fine. Blending two images posted where one bird is extracted and planted into another is ok. Removing something from the scene altogether, is fine.

What's not fine is adding fire breathing dragons and cartoon characters.

Once your image is posted it is not allowed to be re-submitted with changes.

Feedback is automatically given to posters unless you opt-out. Please remember when giving feedback to mention why its right or wrong for you and remember that feedback is your opinion only.

This is an on-rolling game that will hopefully show you endless ways to improve your image, but before you can see what other people do to yours - you must be good enough to be crowned the PP king.

Serious post production please, this is for everyone to broaden their skills in PP and remember: no matter what your level - someone can always show you something!

Let the game begin!

Ok folks, you have 1 day to show me what you got! Who will give the best version of this image??? We'll see tomorrow night! Remember to explain your work.

Isn't this just the same as the already well established "how would you edit this photo" thread?

To be fair that 'other' game is a little bit on the light hearted side, this seems more 'serious'.

118kbs, thats a bit small Phil, its not gonna give people much to work with ya stingy git!

Heres my rather bizarre effort, dont really remember how i did it, it was all such a blur. But i did go into lab mode and invert the A channel, i created a duplicate layer and converted to infra red, set this layer to luminosity. Created a new layer and created a spherical gradient using purple and red, set blend mode to multiply i think. Put original layer over the top of all this, set blend mode to darken, reduced opacity just to bring a bit of green back into the grass. A bit of dodge and burn too.

So am I right in thinking that where as the how would you edit game is a fantasy game where anything goes, this is to be a more serious/genuine editing game:shrug:

Yes. I'm not interested in animations and silly stuff. I want to see what skills other people have and learn from it. The people that play would be like minded.

Can we please have serious picture then, not just more landscapes? Maybe post a picture of an object and give the aim, say as advertising a particular product or what actually needs doing - such as scar removal on a portrait or reflections on a car so it can go into a different background etc

whys that ?

did'nt read anything in your intro, that said i couldn't post something like that,

you need to be more clear on your conditions

Maybe he did it because you didn't say how you achieved the edit ?

Unless this is going to be totally different from the "how would you edit" thread I cannot see the point :)

You will see pictures of any and every genre.

If I told you what I wanted you to do to a picture it would defeat the point.

PLEASE PEOPLE, JOIN IN OR NOT...DON'T START SLATING THE GAME BECAUSE THERE IS ONE THAT IS SIMILAR. IF YOU WANT TO SHARE SKILLS GREAT, WELCOME...IF YOU WANT TO PICK AT THIS THREAD OR BE ANNOYING, PLEASE DON'T BOTHER. The rules are simple. The aim is simple. If there is another thread that is similar to this and you prefer - play that, or play both, I'm sure you won't be jailed for having an TP thread affair.

Phil I think your taking it a bit too seriously, I don't see your in a position to disqualify anything, this is a forum and your not a mod, I do see where your coming from but lighten up a bit and have some fun.

Heres a serious version.
Local contrast ajustment, sky darkened, flare removed, burning/dodging.

My problem is I wouldn't be able to get it any better (probably worst) than Swanseamales and istuffs edits. It feels limited to just adjustments . I maybe wrong but, if I snow capped the peaks and swapped the sun in for the moon it wouldn't be acceptable? Just trying to clarify:thinking:

I think its a good idea to have one serious one funny, personally i got bored with the silly ones, (i never found them that funny) so il be up for playin this one, with more serious and arty edits.

Ill try and do one later.

Your not a monty python fan then?

Ill try and do one later.

Look forward to it!

I'll be choosing the winner tonight as well as putting my own edit up, get your edits in! :)

Reply to Wayne: I just want to stress what this thread is for, serious editors...I stopped posting in the other one because it got ridiculous...haven't been on it in months because of that.

Maybe you should stop slating other threads yourself "the other one" may be ridiculous to you but to many others it has been a great learning tool.. with some great help from other members. I am a lot more familiar with photoshop now since posting and getting involved with that thread...I dont normally bother about these kinda things but your tone stinks man.

oh yeah "the other thread" has had 61,000 hits so it cant be that bad

I did enjoy it at the start, made me laugh a bit, but i got bored with it after a while, and never having a chance at winning because the people who won with funny ones would then choose funny ones, serious and arty edits never really got a chance (well mine didn't anyway :p )

wil try to do one but i go to finish some proper work first :(

Andy, don't think the OP will allow that, not sure if its serious enough?? But also u didn't describe what you did which is a requirement,

Jack

oops....I never read the full opener....I didn't know we had two concurrent games running.

1. Find image of meerkat
2. Try and apply image editing with original but found it looked a bit too mad and angry for such a tranquil setting
3. I then wasn't sure it if was indeed an angry meerkat, or a squashed dead meerkat. It still looked angry, but if you were just runover you might look angry too.
4. I suspected the horizon was off a few degrees, but as I couldn't be sure, neither could I see it, I couldn't level it (I thought this could be disqualifed for this reason alone, if you can't level a landscape what hope is there?). Not to mention my laptop is perched on my gamy leg which isn't level at the best of times.
5. Due to point 4, I thought out the box, negating any horizon doubts and decided to eliminate it.
6. In a flash of inspirational brilliance I decided that the meerkat was indeed very much alive but having a bad day. He also needed some fresh bedding material for the wife n weans as winter approaches
7. As no one else uses GIMP I wasn't sure if an explanation would be welcomed. The voices told me to use the GIMP scissor tool, floating layers, cutting & pasting, rotating, resizing and some Iwarping oh and a drop shadow on the lower portion of the image.

hows that for you Jack ;)

:lol::lol::lol:PMSL!:lol::lol::lol:

(In a flash of inspirational brilliance I decided that the meerkat was indeed very much alive but having a bad day.) Quality!

If you don't want to join in you don't have to but I don't see the point in either coming in just to start an argument, or try and make fun of the thread.

I started this thread for people including myself, that are serious about;

a) teaching others some skills in PP
b) learning new tricks or eaiser ways of PP.

I didn't expect people that have nothing else to do other than start arguments or compare my thread to someone elses. At the end of the day, if you don't want to join in, DONT but there's no need to try and get some cheap laughs or a silly little argument not worth having.

To all those interested in comedy: I'm sure there's a post for that!
To all those intested in finding faults / comparing threads: it's a bit petty.

I hope that those whom this post will apply to either join in or jog on.

I don't see the point in either coming in just to start an argument, or try and make fun of the thread.

Sorry Phil, but this is the human race. You got all serious far too early in the thread, its too much of a temptation not to give you a bit of stick for it. You gave off bad vibes, and its cost you a bit of support here.

Lets forget about all that and concentrate on the purpose of this thread, I actually think this thread is a good idea, and look forward to being part of it, if its done right. So with that in mind, do you have any opinions regarding peoples submissions so far? You havent commented on any yet, let alone voted a winner. My vote (if i have one) goes to Kerioak.

:)
