The Photography Show 2016

Try to sit as far away from any other talk areas or food areas as the seating allows. The new show is much better designed, but there used to be lots of problems of noise overlap from various demos or people snacking/chatting so the demo you were sat at got drowned out. As I said though, last year was a big improvement on this.

That's good advice and if you are struggling to hear there is an av technician and stage host on each stage. Speak to them and ask them to adjust the sound.

And once again, from Donny to Birmingham return? Over £100 including the discount. For 3 of us going, that's a bargain.... Thanks again Virgin

A taxi is actually cheaper for 3 of us

Phil, are you sure that's right ? using the 25% discount and buying two single tickets it costs me £44 from York. I think that's a reasonable price. I haven't booked it yet as I may drive.

It's odd, I followed the link and input my requirements, it's usually about £70 (it's a trip I do occasionally for work)

The offer does say it's for the West Coast main line. So for the South East up it'll work, but not the North East down.

Just checked thetrainline and same price

You might be better off coming up to York then a days parking costs £8 so that's still cheaper for you.

I don't understand rail fares. I recently went to a meeting in Bristol traveling from York, a colleague also attending was traveling from Newcastle. Same train completely different prices only his ticket was about £20 cheaper and Newcastle is further by an hour. It really is an enigma !

There's 3 of us in the car, so driving was always the best option.

Oh I see, I agree !! Hope you enjoy the show. I'll be there either Monday or the Tuesday. The weekends are horrendous, or have been in the past.

Missed it last year but going this year. I would like a really sturdy tripod so hoping there's a good selection.

I know this is an old post but presuming you haven't bought yet... Check out Manfotto's website there is a 50% clearance. Stock is disappearing by the minute but only just saw your post.

When is it on? Also. It seems you got to buy tickets for the separate workshops etc?

Hi Jonney
The vast majority of the 500+ sessions that take place across the show in the theatres and stages are free. The only ones you pay for are the Super Stage, framing workshops and the conferences.
Hope you can make it. Someone has already highlighted the short journey time and discount on the virgin service. The train also comes into Birmingham International which is part of the NEC complex and a covered 5 minute walk straight into the show.

Cheers
Jonny

Thanks. I am trying to get someone to come with me.

My ticket has turned up :) I'd love to meet up with a few of you. Any "celeb" photogs to look forward to seeing? or is it mostly kit on sale?

Did you not get a booklet with your ticket ? The programme is in there, if you didn't I'm happy to share any information with you.

I'm intending be there (barring accidents) on Saturday and Sunday (and possibly a revisit on Monday if I didn't finish).

I'll be going all 4 days from Cardiff. Always welcome others to travel together if they're interested.

4 days?
I could probably do two as a guest. Are you working a stand or just visiting?

What day are you going Phil, would be nice to meet up and thank you for your help in TP over the years (y)
Monday. Thanks though. I'm happy to meet up with whoever is going.

Mr Bailey is perhaps the 'star' on the Sat, although I am sure the demand and queue to talk to the likes of Phil V will much greater. ;)

~I hope the 'former' Bowens lounge will remain a sea of calm like an oasis in the melee of the NEC. The best bit of the show for a quiet chat and catch up.

Anyone know what's replaced the Bowans Lounge? I have a complimentary drinks ticket for in there !

Have you been to the NEC before?

Its huge and tiring.

Unless you are working there, I am not sure I would want to be there four days.
Never been. Guess it's as big as the excel in london.

Point is. Is the ticket valid for one day?

I've given myself time to go on all days, as theres shows I want to see pretty much all day on Saturday and Sunday (kevin mullins, kate H smith, and the like). Then I thought I'd have the third day wondering around and contemplating buying things, and then if needs be, spend the fourth day emptying my bank account and filling my cupboards.

Size wise:-

Excel = 45,000 sq m
NEC = 190,000 sq m

Although The Photography Show doesnt occupy all that, as there are multple halls and various shows on at the same time.

The Excel is a tiny little place. You could fit Excel in Hall 1 of RAI Amsterdam - then there are 19 other halls. NEC is a bit smaller than RAI, but not much.

I'm already being sent to IFA in Berlin, IBC in Amsterdam and possibly Photokina in Cologne. I'm going to give this show a miss.

Trade tickets are valid for all days.I think the paid tickets are only valid for a specific day.
Yep, think that is correct.

No doubt JonnyS from the organisers who posts on here, will be along to validate that view soon.
