This Free programme will tell you the direction of the sun on any given day. Its free for the PC and there are apps but they do cost (android version £ 3.15)

The Photographer's Ephemeris

I use this on the pc it`s great for planning a sunrise or sunset shots tells you times for both and the direction for both as well

Cracking program. I've used it on the pc for quite a while and recently bought the app.

Any way to see where the sun is at a particular time of day?

Yup - the details view (dunno if the app supports this, I've only used the PC version).
Also allows you to work out when it will cross a nearby hilltop using the geodetics pin.
For example, a good challenge for this time of year is to use TPE to work out where and when to stand so the sun shines through the doorway on the top of Glastonbury Tor - works a treat. It's VERY surreal actually being there and witnessing it :)

Yeah I worked out were the sun would be at the time I would be taking photos of the guests after the ceremony finished

Cheers Duncan, have had TPE a while and never found that view despite looking!

There is one thing i would like to do but not sure how.

How can i tell when the moon will be at a particular bearing / azimuth,

I took a picture some years ago, and would like to retake but need the moon in a paricular place in the sky.

Cheers!

It's all in the details view.
Slider the time slider and you get the son and moon positions plotted on the map plus all the numeric data in the side bar.

Here's a worked example showing the moon exactly behind Glastonbury Tor tomorrow.

Full sized image is here.
Stand on the red pin at 05:14 and Bob's the proverbial.
The key to this advanced use is the black geodetics pin which allows you to work out relative viewing angle.

:bonk:

Just D/Led to this machine and was wondering the best way to print pages to take with us on holiday, completely forgetting that I always take my netbook on hols, so will D/L it to that as well!

Thanks for the link - meant to D/L it for ages but only been well enough recently to be bothered.

What I do is work out examples like the one above - then use Snip (Windows 7) to save a screenshot onto my phone.
Works for OS maps too ;)

D/Ling to netty now, so in theory, no need to print screenshots. May print day1's figures at each destination but otherwise, will have netty and so can access the horse's mouth.
