The perfect TP studio WITH PHOTOS! March 1st update

Well done for keeping at it.. id give my right knut to have a space to do this!!

Any thoughts yet as to how you are going to light it yet?

Thanks!

Lighting.... hmmmmm.

To start with:
keep my 7x6 Hilite & get a reflective floor
Get four new lights
- two 500w lights, or maybe one 200w & 400w/500w for the subject
- two 200w (maybe) for the Hilite - need to look into this a bit more, and do a search on here for what others use
- The biggest softbox I can find.

Maybe Bowens if I'm feeling flush (and as it holds it's value) but I'm very keen to get some recommendations!

I want the lighting completely even across the whole of the studio for kids shoots, so I don't see how I'll manage to get a nice shadow. Obviously, I want it to be flexible so will bring in black sheets or something, so when the camera club uses it for fashion shoots the lighting can be more subtle.

Well that's my thoughts for today, I'll go read another thread by Gary and then change my mind again!

If you are feeling flush, the Bowens Octobox 150 is nuts. Looks pro, and is absolutely massive - you get a lovely light from it.

I am only going for the three lights just now, and MAYBE a reflector. Two lights THROUGH strip boxes onto the BG, and one through the Octobox for main light. Now that I have moved the backdrop 2.5ft back, it has had a massive impact and my *need* for a hilite is less critical now.

Just looked up the Octobox - looks great. What power light are you using in it? (sorry, I would search your threads but I think it'd take me all day to find the answer!).

Worry about it squashing an overactive kid with it, but hey ho!

.....

Flexibility - definitely! We got windows in for Xmas so the builders are back in the good books again! Any chance of a photo of the set up you have???

Hi ya - just checked back to see how you are getting on and seen this posting.. glad my comments were helpful. I'll get some photos together for you shortly..

..just playing with the new 7D at present. Lovely :)

That'd be great. 7D mmmmmm - where's the 'drool' smilie?

Current situation:
We're still waiting for the builders. Currently the plumber! Thinking about light purchases (on another thread) and panicing as I have lost my childcare so have no idea how I'm going to work anyway!

++++++++++ FINALLY AN UPDATE ++++++++++++

So the builders have finally finished the studio room in the loft (they haven't actually done everything yet, but it's finally usable)

I have a room with a floor and paint on the walls (always helpful having a floor)

I've bought a 500/500/500 Bowens set

My first 'real' shoot is on Saturday :clap::clap:

Here's my latest panic about lighting:

First shoot was today. I don't have permission to use the photos so I'll drag my kids up there (kicking & screaming) to show you some test shots.

Many thanks to Edinburgh Gary, Garry Edwards and HoppyUK (and others) for your comments on the set up. I'll post pics of what I've ended up using in the short term. It really helped to chat through ideas on here.

Anyway, I had mum, dad, 1 year old and Gran. Mum & Dad were really stressed out and snapped at each other, the baby was grumpy but Gran smiled perfectly every time. After kicking Dad off set and calming everyone down we got some really nice photos - it took almost an hour though!

I've got seven more bookings over the next six week which I'm really pleased with (still most definitely part time!).

great space look forward to seeing the finished room

wow, interesting thread and cant wait to see the finished result

good luck with it

I can't believe I haven't updated this thread!!!!

I've been working in the studio since Apr10 (mainly weekends), and still haven't done any finishing touches. It feels like a bit of a tip, but I'll never post if I wait for it to be tidy and finished.

Here are a few photos

I need to sort the flooring our - probably a bigger piece of vinyl, it looks neater than this for clients (honest!)

Thanks Brian. The photos don't really do it justice. It has made a world of difference (and Mr Rudesing has stopped grumbling now he doesn't have to move sofas every time I want to take some shots)
