Yes
Jean and Jill and I have mentioned we'll be doing another 52 with an overall theme whereby each week's pics have to be within this one theme, no individual theme.

My theme is gonna be...PETS
Wow. What a surprise

Anyone else up for joining us?

Hmmmm...I was thinking of a 52 for 2010 (did a 365 this year), but I'm not sure I could devote a whole year to taking the same themed photos. I was actually quite looking forward to the different weekly theme challenge!

Wow. What a surprise

I would never have guessed !!! :D

How are you going to do this?
Instead of the themed 52; as part of it; or as a completely separate second thread?

I definitely want to keep up with the themed 52, but I do quite like this idea.
I'm thinking of maybe incorporating a monthly or fortnightly "extra bonus shot" to a theme of my own into my main 52.

No idea what theme though . . . yet
Just over a week to decide and then I'll set it out in my rules at the beginning of my 52.

I'm going to keep my second 52 completely separate from the weekly themed one.

I'd never have guessed Shorty was going to choose Pets! Excellent choice, Shorty. :D And seeing what you've produced this year, I'm going to love it.

My theme for the year will have to be easily accessible so I think it'll be along the lines of 'Growing Things' , ie plants, etc. I've got a garden, a greenhouse and an allotment and live in the middle of the New Forest, so it seems an obvious choice. I'll firm up my 'rules' because I want to be able to look back on it and see some kind of progress. (Hopefully :cuckoo:)

Are you still in, Jill? Sarah?

Jean

I'm considering this too, but I have yet to decide how I may do it. I was also thinking of starting up a new photography blog, so I'll have to try think about how I can incorporate this instead. Perhaps my theme can be Blog  . We'll see!

As a second thread. Give it a go, I guess there's no harm in planning to do it but then realise you'd rather not/no point/etc.

Yes, rules, I'll see what I can come up with for mine, it's more of a very lenient 52, but as a personal project instead - like Jean suggested in my current 52 thread.

I don't know whether to make it 'pet poses' like I mentioned in my thread, but I think if I leave it slightly open it's more of a challenge, cos I'll obv have to do differnet things each week. I might also not force it to be a 52, and just add random shots inbetween, should I take any.
I'm like you though, Jill. I want it to be an actual challenege so I can improve - like I have with doing the current 52. But I can't think straight at the moment in how to implement it properly.
It'd be great to have a few people join. This is a very lenient personal challenge, so it can be a 365, 104, 52, etc any number you want. But enough structure that it's a CHALLENGE, I think?

Right, orf I go finkink bout rules now!

Karma 0 it'll be good for you to tag along - anyone :D

I might do... I've been thinking of getting more into Mono... so that might be it ...

So do I just pick a theme of my own choice and stick to that for the whole year?

I think we may be confusing some people with this tread so I wonder if we should give this a new name! Just to clarify to everyone what this thread is about: it's seperate to the "standard" 52s. The standard 52 is as per the post by SimonTALM here. This thread, currently named 'The "other" 52s' is for anyone that is interested in a side project that runs on 1 specific theme picked by themselves.

On saying that, everyone is welcome to join in on this one too!

Hope that straightens things out :)

I may be mad having not done a 52 before. Am I seriously thinking of doing this one too? 2 Projects in my first year. am I "BONKERS". I am thinking of doing a Flower Theme...52 Totally Different Flowers........yeah defo Bonkers !!!!!! Quick fetch the men with the white coats and straight jacket....

Oh sod it!.....in for a penny etc

Jon

I've already started a non-themed personal 52. The idea was to force me to get the camera out and keep taking photos.

What I am hoping to do now is at the end of 52 weeks, get all the photos printed in a coffee table book. I only hope that I can take 52 photos that will be worthy of inclusion.

I think you are all as mad as a box of frogs but I wish you all well :)

I second that and gracefully bow out of a second 52 for 2010!

I will be taking on another personal project at some point in the year but I can catagorically say it won't be concurrent 52's :cuckoo:

Now I just need to get my thinking cap on and decide what I am going to do. I think it might be macro themed

'm already keeping my project in mind when taking pics. Have done a thread in Animals and Nature[and if you read this and I havn't...I WILL be]

Actually, I'm not going to take part in this particular 52... one is enough, but I may well make use of the plan to aim for more Mono shots this year in that.

I may do something slightly different - keep to the regular 52 but do a '12' ie pick a theme for a month and commit to (say) six shots on that theme to be posted in the first week of the following month (6 as thats how many a single post can take :))

Needs some thought :)

 I've been thinking about this. I'm not sure that I want to commit to another photo per week on top of the standard 52, but some kind of personal challenge does interest me - I just can't think of what to do.

This thread in Out of Focus has given me some inspiration though. I reckon I could do something really creative here.

Not sure I'd want to commit to one per week - more of an "as and when" type thing. But it could be interesting. Then again I could try it and it could turn into a complete disaster never to get off the ground!

PS : In case you don't spot the warning at the top of the thread, some of the links off the site linked in it are NSFW - the images themselves in the link are fine though.

And then there's me who's leaning towards not doing the 'actual' 52, but doing this personal challenge, and probably 2times a week. Hmmm.

Bit of a toughie for me, really dunno what to do!

Well I've now decided not to do a 52 at all but slow everything down and do something along the lines of a topic a month with one longer project over the summer / Autumn using what I have learned so far...

Jan - Composition (Lines - Horizontal / Vertial / Diagonal) - minimum 3 shots

Feb - Composition (Shapes - Circles / Triangles) - minimum 3 shots

March - Exploration / Return - (Go on an outing and take shots. Return later in the month to try to improve on them) - minimum 4 shots

April - Movement (Motion / Moment - shutter speed / panning etc) - mimimum 3 shots

May - Ittens Contrasts (Pairs of contrasting photo's and combining contrasts in one shot) - minimum 4 shots

June - Exploration / Return - Minimum 4 shots

July / Aug / Sept / Oct - Nature Project (Macro bugs / local nature reserve / back garden / Zoos / Birds - havn't decided yet!) - aim for 20 shots

Nov - Still Life / Controlled Lighting - minimum 4 shots

December - I should have 45 photo's at this point. Idea is to choose the best from each topic and create a photobook of 2010.

What do you reckon? I wanted something a bit less structured than the 52 and more focused on trying to improve / learn rather than just get the shot each week.

I want to do some sort of project for the year but don't know if I can commit to a 52 but this looks great. I'm going to mull this over a few beers tonight. Cheers for the idea.

Looks good enough to me, Fi, good luck with it! And I like that you're gonna be 'doing something' with it at the end!

I'm gonna really try and push this project for myself, and try and get things myself improved.
And lust after a d700 *hides*

Good to know it's given someone some food for thought

If you do go ahead with a personal project be sure to post a thread so we can see how you get on.

Thankyou - hopefully I will make it through to the end with something to show for it! Are you still thinking two shots a week for yours?

I'll join you in the lusting... but I'm lusting after a Tamron 90mm macro, Nikon 70-300 AF-S VR and some kind of off camera flash... it could be an expensive year for both of us :D

I have been watching both 52 threads and trying to decide what I should do. I don't want to commit to something I can't manage but I really need something to get me off my backside and out shooting more regularly. However, I really don't have a lot of spare time.

So, I have decided to do my own 52 - "Flora and Fauna of an English Country Garden". Okay, yes, I have a web site and blog about this already, but committing to try to get at least one decent shot each week should give me more incentive. There may even be a photobook at the end of it.

It would also be useful to get some honest C & C. Sometimes I look at my photos and cannot make up my mind whether or not they are rubbish!

On the weeks that I am not at home, I will substitute other wildlife or landscape photos.

How do we measure weeks? Since 1st Jan is a Friday, do we do Friday to Thursday?

Jenny

Oh yes, and I really do want a Macro lens. Hmm..... My expensive year was last year - but yes, me suddenly wanting a d700 AND new lenses...Hmmm

I am thinking I'l drop out of the 'proper' 52 :( will go break the news to everyone. But 'my' 52, will be unsutructed, in that I will end up posting however many pictures for each week, that I end up taking - that fit with the theme. We'll see.

It's interesting reading everyone's thoughts onan 'alternate 52' and I'm still keen to do mine.

Jill - I DO NEED RULES - or I'll just slip by the wayside. For 2009 'my' rule within the 52 was 'I have to keep up' which resulted in more 'fill in' and crowbar shots than I would have liked, and I'll probably do the same for the main 52 in 2010.

My personal project will almost certainly be the plant-related one but I haven't had mental space to decide how to implement it yet. And it's now 1st January!
