I've been looking at medium format SLRs, as I've mentioned in other threads, and I think I've settled on a Bronica SQ-A. And then today on eBay I saw a Hasselblad C/M, incorrectly described as "body only". He was obviously selling it with the lens/back/WLF because he mentioned it in the description - the lens (Zeiss 80mm 2.8) had a smallish scratch on the front element. I knew that smallish scratches are pretty much undetectable in the images unless you point it at the sun and they flare. The auction was expiring in a few minutes, and I didn't have time to think much, so with ten seconds left I bid £300, and it ended up going for £310.

Obviously, the winning bidder may have bid a lot more than £310, but it still felt like the one that got away. Was I lucky, or unlucky? What price do you reckon it should have gone for?

Lucky, £500 or so at a dealers should get you that camera in a no issues condition on ebay with a scratched lens it should go for a lot less.

I've never lusted after Hasselblads as I always remember the old camera dealers joke about pro's having three, one in use the second a spare and the third away being repaired.

Cheers. £500 is a bit beyond my budget, so getting one for £320 would have been nice, but I guess I should get the SQ-A and spend the rest on film!

Sometimes you do get lucky on Ebay with a poor description, these things are worth looking out for. Reminds me of the time I bought a Nikon FA body which was described in the text as coming with a Hoya 52mm lens (obviously what was written on the filter). I could see from the pics that it had a Nikkor 105mm f2.5 lens attached. Managed to win the auction for around £110 IIRC and both camera and lens were pristine! Lens alone worth more than that. But there was obviously a risk involved!

There was a Yashica Mat on eBay yesterday, listed as a "Yashia brownie" and in the "box cameras" section. I had high hopes when it was going for £3.20 with 5 minutes to go, but they I guess two other people had spotted it, because it went for £43. Not a bad price, but not £3.20 either.

A Rolleiflex 3.5F that was in great condition at a reasonable price. Had a few accessories included too. Not too sad about that since I bought a 2.8F later in the year which was a bit less expensive and it has served me well since.

Definitely think I was lucky now. I've been reconsidering the Hasselblad - I'd LOVE to own one, but I doubt I could afford the lenses. At least if I buy a Bronica, I could afford a wider one and a tele too.
