The olympic events thread

yep, a tiny mistake but to my untrained eye, his whole performance had more flair than any others. They described the Spanish chap as being 'flamboyant', but Uthopia looked fabulous in his moves.

I am really untrained but I must admit that I thought the Dutch bird's nag was fantastic and was unlucky not to win. I didn't spot any mistakes compared to the glaring one at the end of the gold winning performance. I spotted it even before the commentator mentioned it, so it must have been obvious.

The judges know best though and well done to all for an enthralling competition as I have never seen one live before.

WOOOHOOOOOO!!!

Will I have to pop up the road and visit the Enfield gold post box now, seeing as she has 2 Golds :D

Yea I've to get a shot of Wiggins gold post box, I can quickly see this becoming a TP thread on it's own, as we get inundated with gold boxes :D

Questions...

1- Why in most events (like the 200m) is Lane 1 always empty?
2 - Why do some track cycles have rear wheel 'enclosed' and sometimes the front one too?

-Jade Jones is through to the final in Tae Kwondo, so another guaranteed medal there too! Well done kiddo!

Watched the women's Taekwondo :shake: stick them in dresses and high heels and it's a fight in a night club....

Aerodynamics, reduce drag and increase momentum by being a solid wheel, it's unusual to see the front one 'enclosed' as it make the steering heavy, definitely never seen it on road races time trials.

Aerodynamics. Traditional spokes create drag but are light. Deep rims or solid wheels are more streamlined but vulnerable to crosswinds that can ruin bike handling which is why they wouldn't want to be used on the open road (there's also a restrictions on aero wheels on the road).

Kerching. A wise £5 invested at a crappy 3/1 for Jamaica 123... however 300% profit for the day.

Just think what Bolt could do if he took it seriously instead of going clubbing until 4.30 with the Swedish female handball team.

although given the choice what would you do :naughty:

You know those girls from Leeds and North Wales who get into town centre fights on a Saturday night?

... Well it's all come good for them today!!

Just to keep us nicely grounded, did you know we are not only the winniest team behind the American/Chinese powerhouses, but we also the loosiest!

You just invented two new words in one sentence. Better send 'em in to the OED. :)

That's an inevitable factor of being the host. We become entitled to compete in events we would never have a hope of qualifying for and so cobble together a useless team to make an appearance. I'm sure the same trend would be seen in Athens and Beijing :)

If Jade Jones did a different sport, she be giving Jess Ennis a run for her money at being the face of the games.

GOLD and good looking :D

Anyway I know I'm about to be slagged off a bit now, but one the best thing I've seen so far was Synchronised Swimming.

The Spanish routine in the final was just awesome.

Fantastic technique and dedication these people show...no probs from me with their sport.

no complaints from me either, the strength and body control actually required to do synchronised swimming is awesome. I have never worked out why they feel the need for the girls to be plastered in make up [ditto gymnastics for that matter] as the skills are simply jaw dropping, they don't need flimsy adornment.

Another Gold this morning btw, Ed McKeever in Canoeing just rowed a stonker - well done that man!:clap:

The Sun headline guys must be having a field day think stuff up for the games :)
