I wouldn't be surprised if they changed the rules slightly following the olympics. Currently there's nothing in them to take account of the fact that if someone leans on you the only response you can make to stay upright is to lean back against them which inevitably causes a deviation of the bike. That means that the odds of relegation are stacked against the person in the racing line because they're less able to defend their position from elbows and aggressive racing. Hopefully an exemption will be added to the rule of not leaving the racing lane, so that it doesn't come into effect when you've been pushed by another racer.

Anyway, the velodrome has been the sporting highlight for me. Fabulous atmosphere, hugely exciting.

Well done to the GB cycling team - I reckon Chris Hoy, Laura Trott et al are all related to Frank Whittle. :)

There has been a whole change of mindset among British Olympians which I cannot remember ever hearing before in quite this form. More than one athlete who has failed to perform has been interviewed bemoaning that they let their teammates down and hadn't done their share!!

There are still a few [a couple of girl swimmers I heard interviewed] who either couldn't think beyond or possibly couldn't speak beyond "it just wasn't my day today but I've enjoyed my Olympics" but for others, there has been an interesting psychological development of how success breeds success!!

Team GB members have started to expect to be winners rather than galant losers!

not to mention the winners are being generally very gracious within all the ecstacy..... :thumbs:

So disappointed, esp for Nick Skelton - first fence he had down in the whole event - (as he pointed out if they'd used a different scoring system he'd have had two fences in hand and would have won - he had the best performance over the week but its all down to those few rounds).

Glad they won team gold but would have loved to see an individual medal. (Good to see Ireland win bronze though.)

Well, when Justin Gatlin got Bronze in the men's 100 metres, Denise Lewis was candid enough to say on TV that many people had mixed feelings about him.

Same goes for Cian O'Connor

Did Cian take steroids? lol!

I can understand the analogy, but there is a significant difference, Cian did not take any performance enhancing substances.
 
Just watching the individual dressage, and still totally in awe of the control and variety of moves. I know a lot of people think of dressage as dancing on horses, but it really is the ultimate of horse/rider understanding, technical ability and skill - loving it! :D

Well all GB performances were excellent, Carl and charlottes were exceptional.. What would Charlotte have scored without the mistake.. Unbelievable she's only been riding GP for a year..

Gold and Bronze!

yep, a tiny mistake but to my untrained eye, his whole performance had more flair than any others. They described the Spanish chap as being 'flamboyant', but Uthopia looked fabulous in his moves.
