The olympic events thread

The roof will be blown off in just a very wee while!

Brilliant from Murray, absolutely brilliant.

Sweet revenge for Andy.... Well done:-)

Congratulations Murray. A fantastic performance and perhaps it may silence some of those who were knocking him here, and elsewhere. Good on yer!

fantastic

Murray....Blimey!
(Though I have never seen Federer make so many unforced errors)

Would love to know what Murray really thinks is more important, an Olympic gold or a grand slam win.

Well, there IS a million quid riding on a slam.........

BOLT BOLT BOLT!!!!
Like him or loathe him.....he ran that sucker like he meant it.

Yorkshire 11th in Olympic medal table. 4 golds - Ennis, Clancy, Triggs-Hodge and Copeland - Silver for Wilson, and Bronze for Armitstead and Clancy (again) - puts god's own county above Japan, South Africa and Australia! And there's the Brownlees to come in the Triathlon too! :woot:

There is lots of money for the golden league in athletics too, but I'm sure if you ask Dai Greene or Carmelita Jeter they would give their world titles up for Olympic Gold.

I don't get the feeling from the tennis, same for golf in Rio 2016, I can't imagine Tiger or Ernie Els saying they'd swap all their Open wins for a Gold medal

Damn you, I could only think of 4 from Lancashire

Bradley Wiggins (well he lives here now :) )
Etienne Stott

If I wanted to see two women punching lumps out if each other I'd simply go into town on a Friday night, it's mot exactly a very feminine "sport"

Why do you feel the need to separate sports in that way? There are crossover of sports that you could distinguish as masculine and feminine - you could say dressage isn't particularly masculine, does that bother you if a male is competing?

Also, you could go see men punch each other's lights out on a Friday night too.

Dressage doesn't bother me because the men aren't punching the horses

I heard a guy on a Radio 2 phone-in earlier. He said he'd been the biggest Olympics cynic possible - until (by chance) he & his kids got some tickets for the main stadium on Saturday night. They were all blown away by the atmosphere and ended up in a state of complete euphoria (especially at the end of the 10k). He says he isn't a cynic now!

So pleased with the team gold in jumping - highlight of the Olympics for me (and at least one of the events I could watch on Freeview). A sport I've followed for years (used to jump in local competitions as a teenager) - so fantastic to see the team win gold. Excellent!

Jason Kenny claims gold. Absolutely loving the cycling so far!
