The Old 'Published Photo for Credit' Chestnut

If in doubt, look in a dictionary :)

 I knew that I would get myself into more trouble by posting quotes.

Thank you Coldeh - I think that I've got it straight in my mind now :D.

Not a problem, Grammar Nazi away!

I think on the point of view of the names thing. Yes I did originally copy and paste the pro-togs (now removed) and yes it was the publisher that wrote the names in an email to me.

I originally included the names as there was at least 1 or 2 well known MTB togs that I wanted to use as an example of names I would be alongside!

I removed the names really as although the publisher hasn't been very discrete, the least I could do in retrospect was act with slightly more discretion, or 'professionalism'.

Some excellent advice in the posts above. OK the original 'discussion' about whether to give away for credit could rumble on.

However my resolve has strengthened and I am of the mind why should they get the images for free when the publication is purely for business profit. I just want a fair amount - so that they don't think they can get content from me for free.

I emailed back saying if there is budget for images get in touch and we can come to some agreement for licensing costs. I got an email back saying they were going to choose some images and then call to discuss costs.

I will update when I know more.

Thanks again

:)

Sounds like they could have been trying it on.
Start negotiating at what you think is the lowest that is likely to be accepted I guess!

Edit: As seen from the publishing house' point of view!
The publishing house started negotiating at the lowest cost that is likely to be accepted!

That's not the way to negotiate! Whatever you suggest they will suggest lower - so don't start at your lowest!!
