The Official TP Cricket World Cup Thread

So, were not through to the quarters yet. We need South Africa to beat Bangladesh, which is on saturday. That result then puts us and the West Indies through. If Bangladesh beat S.A. then we need India to beat the West Indies.

If the West Indies and also Bangladesh win, then we are on the plane!

Does it need to be so complicated, when I heard the radio news England had to beat the WI's to qualify, where did the ifs and buts come from, not a cricket fan so I need it simple.

The opening round is a league, 2pts for a win, 1pt for a tie and 0pts for a loss.

We have won 3, tied 1 and lost 2 of our six, giving us 7 points.
India and South Africa are through, and the West Indies and Bangladesh have 6 points each. The top four go through, so if Bangladesh beat South Africa, they have 8 points and go through. If the West Indies beat India they have 8 points and go through. So we are relying on either South Africa or India to win their last match, which will confirm that either Bangladesh or the West Indies only have 6pts and we go through.

If (by some miracle) either game is a tie, leaving us and another team on 7pts, with the other game being won by a Windies/Bangladesh, the it goes down to the run rate, which I don't even try to know about. I can't be bothered TBH. I just know that ours is better the Bangladesh and worse then the Windies.

The other 2 teams in our group are Ireland and the Netherlands, who are both out.

All sounds clear to me! :D

Cricket always is:

"You have two sides, one out in the field and one in. Each man that's in the side that's in goes out, and when he's out he comes in and the next man goes in until he's out. When they are all out, the side that's out comes in and the side that's been in goes out and tries to get those coming in, out. Sometimes you get men still in and not out. When a man goes out to go in, the men who are out try to get him out, and when he is out he goes in and the next man in goes out and goes in. There are two men called umpires who stay out all the time and they decide when the men who are in are out. When both sides have been in and all the men have been out, and both sides have been out twice after all the men have been in, including those who are not out, that is the end of the game."

I'm due to work on April 2nd - the day of the final.Wondering whether to swap my day or take annual leave....

I can't see England getting there but there is no outstanding side. We have played some absolutely woeful cricket....luckily for us the first round of qualifying is designed purely for revenue generation and to give the big teams some practice.

I'd rather we came home early to get some rest for the test series against India this summer.....I'd honestly rather we beat them than won the World Cup.

Well that was a spectacular result!

You mean South Africa skittling Bangladesh? ;)

Done us the world [cup] of good! ... now we can meet Sri Lanka next Saturday :bang:

Not really. It'll be, what? Forty four overs of erratic batting whoever's bowling :bonk:

At least we don't have to wait till tomorrow to know. When do they do the draw, and is there any kind of seeding?

Will do some research.

Nice to see that everyones favourite Aussie captain has got out for 19. His one day average over the last 12 months is just 22.5.

Ok, there is no draw.

If you finish in top place in a group, you place the 4th placed team from the opposite group. 2nd place plays 3rd place.

The semi finals are then arranged so that if you finished top in your group, beat the 4th place team from the other group, you would then meet the winner of 2nd in your groupvs3rd in the other group.

So if your first and second place in a group, then you can't meet again till the final.

SO, the Windies went yesterday, after a complete mauling by Pakistan, lets hope that the Aussies go the same way today, come on India!

And would love Ponting to get a very low score again....

I don't mind him getting a big score considering the rest of his team did us a favour and out they go! I can't see him lasting long in the job, and quite right too. The aussies need to break in a new captain for the ashes over here in 2 years time.

And India/Pakistan will have an audience of over 1 billion, which is phenomenal!

Morgan dropped 3 time, finally out for 50. Trott doing the usual and is not out on 71.
186 for 5 as swanny goes for a duck! 43 overs gone, it's heating up....

Last one out of this thread, please switch off the light......

pathetic , never even turned up :bang: :bang: :bang:

If Murali plays, then Sri Lanka, if he doesn't, then India.

So, if we tied with India and only got knocked out by Sri Lanka, does that make England morally [Murali?] third ... in spite of being about the sixth best team out there!

I was thinking the same! Should be an interesting summer when India come to England.

A MASSIVE CONGRATULATIONS to India - I am overjoyed!!

PS. Someone should arrange a TP meet up at one of the Eng v Ind matches in the summer - if so, I'll be there!!

Well I'm very much hoping our test team will resume where it left off but yes, very much looking forward to the summer.

Same here. I also think the ECB need to review the winter schedule - although not an excuse, the boys must have been shattered after such a long winter starting with the Ashes. It can't have been easy being away from home for almost 6 months.

Look on the bright side. It screwed Australia's results in this World Cup too! :woot:

There's an absolute cracker of a cele going on in Traf Square at the moment.

The UKuncut protesters are a tad phished off with them!!!
