The official iPhone 4S / 5 thread

To be fair, even without the punctuation, or at least some of it. I've seen a lot worse text on the forums and on the Internet from people who try writing with shortcuts or text speak so it's not all bad.

The location based services and do work in UK are pretty cool as well, try telling your 4S to remind you to take the trash out when you get home that's pretty impressive.

The iPhone 5 is the last device that he had a direct input on apparently... Due for launch in the summer. The 4s is really just a stop gap to keep ahead of the competition.

Yes, I read about that; and that too will be going into the vault in good time. If I could, I'd buy-back every Apple product I once had ...

IIe, IIc (with its' LCD screen), III, Lisa, Original Mac, IIgs, Newton (in various ittirations), Black MB

Feedback...

I'm still loving it, I love the fact that I can just talk straight into the phone as I'm doing with this message and it picks everything up clearly and properly it's saving so much time the camera is great and batteries not too bad on the phone either. Only thing I have untried is leaving a really really long message and seeing what happens although I guess this message isn't too bad for that.

How does it fare when used with a lot of ambient noise?

I'm in the car show room at the moment with the radio going full blast and it seems fine. I've used in the workshop with pneumatic drills going et cetera. It doesn't seem to fare too badly.

Not sure I want to talk to my phone on the bus or the tube though, I might look a bit daft!

That's pretty good if it got it first time :)

Very impressive.

Back home and on the computer and am sure it takes me longer to type than speak, all examples today were taken first time on the phone with no corrections needed :)

After playing with it I wonder how long it will be for an iphone nano which could be in the shape of a watch as you really don't need a screen etc if it is just for making calls :)

Well it's available here from TODAY and I've just ordered the 16GB version in white. I am very excited. Love my wife's iPhone 4 and my iPod Touch so I am very familiar with Apple mobile devices. This will be my first iPhone since I had a 3G in the UK.

Actually I ordered the 32GB. Duh!

had mine on order via apple.com since 16/10 and got bored waiting so have cancelled the order :shake:

And am now the proud owner of a new 4S64gb in white after managing to reserve one online Thursday night at 21.04 for collection yesterday.

None of the battery drain issues, rattling or mic not working on calls issues yet

Had my 4S for a few weeks now. Battery life was dire to begin with, but much improved after a few full charging cycles.

Think I will get one next week.. really like the look of it and need to upgrade from my old 3G

I'm looking to pick one up at the moment but the Liverpool store haven't had any and the online reservation system is showing 'unavailable'.

I get the feeling Apple deliberately short stock their supply chain to encourage added hype around their products....

Hello iPhone users.
Could someone answer a question about the iPhone4 for me as I've never used one before and am on the lookout for a new phone.

Regarding saving photos & moving them around. Can you have more than one photo folder, or photo folders within photo folders? Example below if anyone's not sure what I'm babbling on about :)

Photos/Animals/001.jpg etc..
Photos/Holidays/India/001.jpg etc..
Photos/Holidays/Italy/001.jpg etc..
Photos/Kids/2010/Vicky/Birthday/001.jpg etc..
Photos/Kids/2010/Vicky/Christmas/001.jpg etc..

My old HTC Desire phone was disappointing when it came to photo organisation, The 'Gallery' folder only went one deep, so the Christmas photo of Vicky for example would actually appear in the 'Kids' folder even if I tried to move the whole Photo file over from PC to phone.

Anyway, thanks for taking time to read and help :)

The 02 stock check thing is a joke. On Thursday it said the O2 Shop on Market Street in Manchester had "some" 32GB in Black, so I got there for opening, turns out they never had any at all. So I walk back to my Office, and look at the O2 stock again, none in stock in Manchester at all, do a couple of hours of work, then check the stock again, and Arndale Centre O2 shop is showing most of the models in stock, so I rush there, and they appear to have loads in stock, so they take my name and I join the queue and I eventually walk out of the shop with one about 2 hours later.

I thought I'd miss the release rush by being in California when they came out and when I got back I thought it'd be pretty easy to pick one up.

I tried the reserve system this evening. Foolishly I logged in five minutes early only to find the stock had already been posted (before the 9pm deadline) and as a result had all but gone (only 64GB models remaining).

Apple can be both brilliant and moronic at times!

Do both your speakers work on the 4S.
My son in law asked me this question today. If you play some music and then cover up the right hand speaker there is no music coming out of the left side one......my 4S is like his, so are others the same and if so, why no music from both speakers.
Thanks
Dave

I believe only one of the holes is actually a speaker - was the same on the iPhone 4 too

AHH!! just checked the user guide, yes the left one is listed as the bottom microphone.
Thanks
Dave

Missed out again tonight on reserving mine. Apple need to sort out their supply chain or stop playing games!

I manages to get hold of one from Apple yesterday. Initial testing has impressed me but I do have the odd issue.

At the moment I'm unable to use 3G data services because the iPhone only has the option to change network settings on supported networks. Bizarre really given they sold me it sim free.

Apparently we have to wait till early next year.

Ask it "Where can I bury a dead body" :D

and it gives

This battery issue is bugging me. Also battery seems to slowly drain if I leave the phone connected once it's reached 100%.

I can honestly say I have not got a battery issue. I am getting just as much out of the 4S as i did with my 4. Have you tried all the well published work arounds?

Yep, and I know it's not only me that's suffering. BUT I LOVE THE CAMERA!

The battery life isn't great, I had to charge mine twice yesterday. If that continues I'll be taking it to the genius bar so they can give it a quick once over.

Speaker is fantastic.

Camera is really good.

Siri is amusing.

There are battery issues which Apple are working on with software fixes, but any new smartphone battery will benefit from some user conditioning i.e. full discharge and recharge cycles.

I've carried out a few as well as switched off the services I don't require and battery life has improved since I got the phone.

They just need to upgrade instagram to support the new resolution of the camera and I'll be a very happy man.

I'm only viewing on my phone but that looks very impressive. I've been using the camera on mine a lot and I'm happy.

I love the photostream integration with iCloud. It's been very handy for Christmas shopping so my wife could checkout the images at home on the mac a few seconds after i'be taken them.

iOS 5.01 is now available.

If you update from the device itself settings>general>software update it just downloads the patch update which is around 40mb

Using iTunes means the whole iOS image is downloaded which is around 700mb

Good to know. Thankfully I was too lazy to plug the phone into my computer so I just did it on the phone.

Why don't they do delta updates through itunes?
