The official iPhone 4S / 5 thread

Also, you won't get the visual voicemail like you do with o2....

I've never used visual voicemail so have no idea what I'm missing, I have used T-Mobile in my iPhone ever since my original 2G. I just can't get a better deal anywhere else.

For me voicemail is handy when looking for a.new.job. most recruiters only leave voicemail

My voicemail works fine on T-Mobile, as I understand it, the visual voicemail just offers extras (I'm sure someone on o2 can explain it better).

Have a look through for old bills mate, thats the best way to gauge what you use, i have been between 300mb and 500mb each month! And with all the features of the phone, it uses the web a lot.
I'm with o2 at the moment, and you can log in online, and check every bill!

Have done, seems to be a maxiumum of 150mb, mostly around 100mb which is good.

Has anyone actually been able to pre-order one yet? I've been trying on Three since 1pm but it keeps crashing and can't get through on the phone. I need a new phone asap as my 3GS battery life is now awful.

After speaking with O2 cust services twice today they seem to be being a bit crafty. Vodafone and Orange have both annouced prices, terms and opened up pre-ordering whereas O2 are saying you can do nothing until the 14th.

So it's a gamble, O2 state that they will have enough handsets to fulfil all upgrades but won't guarentee anything whereas if you switched to Vodafone or Orange you can prettymuch guarentee the phone you want on the 14th on the agreement you want. I think O2 maybe losing out on a deal hear especially with the Vodafone website offering £59 credited to your account if you pre-order and also offer 12 month contracts at a reasonable price.

I am so tempted to switch to Vodafone although I have been extremely happy with O2 since I have been with them.

o2's iPhone tariff's are up, and they are a little cheaper than vodaphone... not much tho, for a 12 month contract its £30 cheaper over the year..

Regarding visual voice mail, its just so simple, easy to manage when you have lots of voice mails... I have a small business, so its just easy! Basically they appear as a list on your phone, so you can just hit them to listen, swipe to delete.. that simple! They are part of the call log when you tap the green phone, there is an extra tab..

I believe you can get an app that will do this, but its easy to have it as part of the package..

I'm still debating if I should buy the phone, and get a cheaper monthly plan.... Hmmm

Have Visual voicemail and data been dropped from the iPhone contracts now?

The site mentions having them via a bolt on

They've always been included on my contract.

I've been on an iphone contract since the original launch.

Yeah, they are giving free text's now, but charging for data.. I think they realise that they are not making as much cash from text's because more people are using email, and app's to send messages, so they are now charging us for data!

I have had unlimited internet since the start too! And unlimited texts!

Mine turned up yesterday. Been a good week for me this week. New iPad 2, new iPhone 4s and a new car yesterday too!

Me and the wife spent all evening asking Siri silly questions. Some of the answers are quite comical!

Apparently you cant get a reply when you ask where the nearest cinema or restaurant is.
Apple have teamed up with Yell in the States to provide this info. but no such link in the UK at present

Apparently we have to wait till early next year.

Ask it "Where can I bury a dead body" :D

On the subject of the iPhone 4s; how can one moth-ball one?

Say I want to store it for prosperity's sake, do I have to remove the battery? If so, how do I go about doing that?

Thanks Darren. I am hoping to buy a 4s; ideally, I'd want to store it wrapped as new without having to touch it in anyway or form.

Would it be ok to store it with the battery in-place? Would there not be any battery issues from such storage?

Li-ion batteries don't normally leak so you would probably be ok. Removing the battery is a very simple process though. If you don't remove it and it leaks it would ruin it. If you do remove it then you remove any chance of that issue BUT you may void any warranty.......

Again, thank you Darren

Why are you looking to store one, may I ask?

I've owned Apple devices since the IIe. Along the way I've stupidly disposed of some fine machines. Ideally I'd love to have these back, but that's way too impractical.

The 4s was the last Apple product to be launched when Steve was alive. I'd like to have this and keep it, for prosperity ... If that makes any sense?

So iPhone 4s users... whats the feedback??? I was dead set on getting one last week, but thinking that I may just move to a SIM only deal for a year or so on my 4, and wait for the next one, as I have no real need to upgrade. I know that sounds strange, but none of the changes make me think its good value to take a new contract and fork out £300 for a phone too! That said, I love new shiny things, so tempt me...

(actually, the wife will shout if I get a new one unless i can convince her it really is worth it):help:

The iPhone 5 is the last device that he had a direct input on apparently... Due for launch in the summer. The 4s is really just a stop gap to keep ahead of the competition.

Feedback...

I'm still loving it, I love the fact that I can just talk straight into the phone as I'm doing with this message and it picks everything up clearly and properly it's saving so much time the camera is great and batteries not too bad on the phone either. Only thing I have untried is leaving a really really long message and seeing what happens although I guess this message isn't too bad for that.

did you have to correct anything in that or did it nail it?

There is at least one mistake ;) and whilst it may be quicker for the sender, the lack of punctuation makes it really, really difficult to read.

Whilst I can see the attraction, there needs to be more emphasis on readability based on the pauses that people make.

That person was straight from the phone, the reason for no punctuation was that I put none in. You can punctuate by saying what you want to punctuate with, I just didn't.

And yes that was spoken without any corrections on my previous post as with this one.

Did you see the mistake it made? ;)

BTW, I think the technology is great, but I do hope people will learn to explicitly use punctuation. I had to re-read your second paragraph more than once to understand what it was actually saying...

funny, i just read both posts first time in 1 swoop.

found it perfectly readable - hence why i didn't even see a mistake.
