The Official Fuji X10/X20/X30/XF1/XQ1 Thread

Hi David, Wow what a tremendous set of images, most of them I like very much. Some of your street style B&W images are very good by any standards.

My wife has one of these X-F1 cameras and I'm amazed at the quality of images that can be obtained from them. Great Stuff !!! (y)

Thanks guys, very much appreciated. This is only my second time doing it so i'm pretty pleased. I wish i had the balls to use my DSLR but until i find bigger ones or make the ones i've got grow then the XF1 will have to suffice. The woman with the cowboy hat was with some men who started shouting at me when i stopped to take her pic. Lol. :D

I really like the Astia profile. I thought they were a tad over cooked but i think if the whole set is done in the same style then it's not TOOOOO bad.

Thing is, when I started with this, I was of a mind of "great shot for a compact camera". The more I use it and the more I see others use it the more I just think "great shot". Marvellous little camera, this thing.

Some cracking shots there David - already favourited some over on FlickR :D

I'll be going out and about with my XF-1 for the first time tomorrow so will post the results in this thread

Good Stuff David - Looking forwards to getting mine tomorrow. It'll be quite liberating.

Welcome to the money pit owners club :)

The joy (or one of the many joys!) of the baby Xs is that they're not a money pit! OK, you can buy a case for them and for the X-?0's there are a few accessories (filter rings etc) but basically, your purchase is all you need. Of course, one XF can lead to another (and other baby Xs!) but it doesn't have to.

Tell that to my X100 ;)

I agree, Nod. Its the GAS that I must avoid...

must not buy another camera...
must not buy another camera...

Great stuff David! I've always assumed Leicester to be a dump... maybe it's not too bad.
No, it's a dump! (I grew up near there).

David's just done a fine job of making it look nice. The council/tourist office should keep him on a retainer.

So I'm going to have to swap my X10 with an XF1 aren't I...!

Any downsides?

Big mistake. :) ;).

Run them side by side, both have their better points over the other.

I did think about an X-100 but felt (and still do) that the single length was too restrictive so went for the X-Pro1 instead - cheaper too, although the other lenses I have bought since (oh, and the X-T1!) may have made it a little more expensive!

Pocketability the xf wins hands down, IQ erm, the same as they have the same sensor and processor don't they? The lens is probably a little better on the x10 though.

You could flog the x10 and buy a new xf and go out for dinner on the way home...

I'm interested in the XQ now... *sigh...*

Brought a X10 yesterday as a general use camera, hopefully it arrives tomorrow and can keep me occupied till my X-Pro arrives :D

Personally, I like the XF's quirkiness with the switch-on/off method and the fact that it's a manual zoom rather than motorised. When I bought the first one, I actually went in to see how well an X-10 fitted a pocket. Slightly disappointed when it didn't but the XF had just been released and that DID fit the pocket! I wondered what the X-10 actually offered over the XF-1 so snapped one up from the classifieds here (with a few spare batteries and some other odds'n'sods). Felt that it didn't really do anything that different to the XF but the X-20 was announced with its in-VF info so I sold the X-10 on to help finance the X-20. Maybe an X-30... :D

someone camera shy in " trendy cap" Marcus ?

"oh, nooo...stop...don't take my photo"

err...i wasn't love..

:D

How come Rhodese ?

Genuinely interested... I love my X10... but I bought it because I thought it was pocketable..

As my disabilities got worse, D/SLRs were becoming more and more difficult to lug around.
I have loved rangefinders all my photography life starting with a Halina 35x in 1962. I still use a Yashica Electro on occasions.
I didn’t want a compact as frigging around with menus I consider a pain.
So my purchase of an X10 was because it just suited my needs better than anything else at that time.
The ability to use the f2.8 aperture at full stretch, allows for the use a faster shutter speeds.
(I think the XF1 is f4.8 after 70mm.)
The 4000th/sec shutter wide open is good in bright conditions.
I also think a viewfinder is a more natural way to use a camera, especially in situations where the screen may annoy others.

"I’m an old fart." and when people shove their phones in the air spoiling the view of those behind them, riles me. As I said "I’m an old fart."

At no time do I think the images produced by the XF1 are inferior to the X10, I just think the X10 is a more rounded tool.

In my opinion, the only advantage that the XF1 has over the X10, is its total pocket-ability.
That’s not to say that the X10 wont fit in a coat pocket.

The X20 is a worthy successor.

One last thought, if we all only ate pork, that’s all the butchers would sell. :).

Mine arrived this morning which was pretty good as I only ordered it online yesterday afternoon.

Only got as far as setting the clock but the battery is on charge.

Certainly looking forwards to having it tucked in my pocket instead of a second DSLR & lens combo when I'm out with my 1D3 and 100-400mm

thats exactly why i use mine so much. I think i've used my d7000 once since getting the xf1

This evening was the sort of situation I bought the XF1 for - a lovely evening and I went out for a bike ride with it in my back pocket. I decided to try my first panorama while I was out. This is straight out of camera.

Surprise View panorama by helen_goldthorpe, on Flickr

There's banding in the sky - any tips to avoid that?
