The Official Fuji X10/X20/X30/XF1/XQ1 Thread

I already have MFT and just bought an XF1. Will report back, but will be gobsmacked if an XF1 can match an Em-5 with a decent prime lens.

Just wondered how you are finding the XF1 compared to your M43?

Thanks
Mike

damianmkv,
That has to be one of my favourite "X" shots. (y)
Without the "E Type" it would be an also ran, but with it, well you is just one lucky so and so.
I'm glad you didn't spoil it with selective colour.
Though, may I be so bold as to suggest :) a little dodge on the chrome, lights and lighter shades of the "E type" would lift it.

Rhodese.

Thank you - I cannot edit for toffee and so have no idea about dodging or how to do it. I agree the Jag could do with a little lift to bring it out

Have any xf1 users come across the lens error issue?

Thanks
My one has been fine so far. Could it be all that twisting and pulling of the lens ? Is this something that occurs early on, or after constant use ?

Having a quick read on Google it seems random. There was an amazon thread where the guy had issues with all 4 him and his mates had bought.

Just found and read them, lets just hope it's a rare occurrence as it is such a lovely camera. Even though I don't use the camera now, as I have insanely given it to the missus, as the kept looking at it longingly. She has not used it very often at all, so if it is going to show up a fault, it will probably be years down the line.

Yep fingers crossed. .

I read of one that failed at 500 shots. If it's going to be faulty surely you'd want it to fail within a year so you can get it sorted under warranty?? Although at the price they are it's hardly a massive deal as you could just buy another.

Anyone know if lens profile support in LR can be done? LR5 and ACR 8.4 support the film simulation etc.but don't correct distortion. Maybe I'm wasting my time as the jpgs are really hard to beat...!

i must admit that I don't bother with RAW for my xf1...

Ooh, hadn't thought of that, will have a play. Thought you'd sold yours? ;-)

I only shoot raw with my other cameras so it feels a bit weird shooting jpgs.
Just spent half an hour doing side by side comparisons in LR5 - big improvement from 4.3. matching the jpg colour quality is *hard*!

Lol... Sold one and bought another. :D

I too shoot RAW so, like you, might aswell shoot RAW with the xf and get as much detail in the file to play with as possible as i like playing with the images. :)
Having said that, when i was playing with the double exposure mode at the weekend it automatically switches to Jpeg and the actual in camera processing of the file is pretty nice.

So... a quick question, what settings do people use for in camera processing? And another one :D I've noticed that when shooting in aperture priority mode, the maximum shutter speed the camera selects is 1/1000 of a second. Is this right? Can't say i ever noticed my old xf doing this, does yours?

Recieved my Crumpler C.C. 70 bag today from eBay, WOW!! What a nice little thing it is too! And yes, the xf1 fits in perfectly! Fantastic recommendation. :) Thanks muchly.

A few pics from today. :)

Never even noticed the fluff on the top of the flower when i was shooting this, but upon processing it's so apparent!

That Laburnum one is damn sharp - maybe I'm missing a trick with no RAW shooting  But then again I only have PSE11 and am no good at editing. Hmmm..

From the spec sheet about shutter speed

(Auto mode) 1/4 sec. to 1/2000* sec., (All other modes) 30 sec. to 1/2000* sec.
* 1/2000 sec. at small aperture, 1/1000 sec. at full aperture

The DR200 and 400 settings have weird restrictions on ISO and the ISO you set also limits Max exposure time for some reason (discovered when trying to do long exposures) so it could be to do with that? E.g. its saving itself some shutter speed headroom so that the DR range can do its stuff?
That's the only downside of this camera, the modes can be a bit over complicated...!

Ahh b****r. I didn't think to actually look at any info about the camera... :D Looks like shooting in manual mode when it's bright sunshine. I wonder why it can't shoot quicker?

Yes, the Laburnum shot is very impressive, i'm pretty happy with the outcome and it's a massive crop too!!

Still not quite got my head around it. I think in DR400 the minimum ISO raises to 400 for example. I've cranked it down and mainly use the Astia setting at the moment. Will play tonight with lens profiles as at the wide end and close up the distortion that it corrects in camera when shooting jpg us quite apparent

Thanks for the edit, David. Not sure if the chrome work is now a bit too bright ?:pompous:

My default is DR200 as I feel that 400 was OTT - a try to go for the less is more approach ( hopefully )

Good to see you purchased another XF....I thought you would;-)

They certainly fit perfectly in those Crumpler CC70 cases too!!!

Maybe it would be a good idea for a thread where people post recommendations for cases for cameras (as long as pics are included of course!)

I'm impressed with the quality of it too Martin. £2.50 is a steal and £1.96 even more so.

In RAW i can't set any other DR amount other than 100% (not that i wish to) I'm pretty happy with how much i can push the shadows in PP so i don't tend to worry. I worry far more about not being at the lowest ISO possible.

Damian, typical... ;)

It was probably on the windscreen as I can't see it on any other shots I've taken that are still on the camera

I just need to get out more and use my one. ..:D
