The Official Fuji X10/X20/X30/XF1/XQ1 Thread

I don't bother with RAW on the X10 anymore as the JPEGs are just soo good and trying to better them with ACR was a waste of time.
Has anyone got any tips for X10 RAW processing?

We were very lucky to get a day at Rainier when the sun was shining. It was still pretty cold, we were at over 8,000 feet and into the snow line at the top of the trail.

I posted a pic of Cannon beach in Oregon on the previous page, but here's another:

Hi Rhodese,

Thank you very much for sharing that information that's brilliant. I'm stuck at sea with my X10 and only limited internet. My instructoin booklet is back at home which I won't see until the New Year !

I do have the latest firmware but now thanks to you I can use RAW. Whilst I agree that the jpegs are very good. I really prefer working in RAW as I have total control over the image.

I use Aperture 3.0 and Photoshop CS6 so I'm sure there will be a work arround somewhere.

Many thanks,

Nick

The X20 is going to get a hammering tomorrow...

It's the annual ffotoaber photo-marathon and I've decided to leave the big guns at home and shoot the day on the little Fuji instead. I need the challenge! :)

If the photos are any good, I'll post 'em on here!

I like that, I like that a lot.

Hi, Plus 1 "Great Shot".

Lovely Steven. X10 rules, YEA-Ha!

So what are peoples thoughts on the XF1? Currys have them for £200 at the moment which seems a fair bit cheaper than anywhere else.

I found the turning on thing way too much of a faff, but I do have compromised grip... My X10 works brilliantly in comparison.

If you want the IQ of the X-10 (and, TBH, I can't see any real difference to the X-20) in a truly pocketable package, go for it. £200 is a real bargain IMO. As Chris says, the turn on/off is slightly more fiddly than the X-10/20 but only very slightly and the compactness of the package the extra move allows is a worthwhile bonus.

I've had my X20 for around a month now and It's a cracker. Not been out with my D300s since I bought it. The build quality is fantastic and the functions, which took me a while getting used to, are quite intuative.

Image quality is good and the added functions (panorama) are also impresive.

I bought my daughter a Fuji somethingorother an we have a great time taking photograps together.

Thanks to those who steered me in the direction of this camera

Word of warning to all you X10 owners: Something to watch out for when you're threading on a filter or hood to the front of the lens. Be very careful not to over tighten it because this can cause the outer sleeve of the telephoto lens to come unscrewed. This is because the outer sleeve of the lens barrel is attached to the front of the lens but with an anticlockwise thread. Simply by tightening a filter or hood onto the front of the lens can undo the sleeve. And as I found out to my cost, can create all sorts of problems with the telephoto mechanisms which, in my case, has ended up with a repair bill of over £300. ( The lens has now become stuck on it's 112mm setting and wont retract back into the body of the camera. )
Also of some interest is that when fujifilm sent me the ' estimate' for repair, they never included a breakdown of what they ' estimated' the problem to be! ( At this very moment I'm awaiting a breakdown of this cost. ) When I take my car into a garage they give me a breakdown of what they know or think is the problem along with an estimate of what it will cost me. Fujifilm repair centre seem to think that this isn't necessary or that we're all to dumb to understand the workings of a camera.
The camera was in perfect working order but to think that the unscrewing of the outer sleeve could be responsible for such a hefty repair bill is difficult to accept. They are also very quick to offer me a trade in for a new X20 model.
I've asked for a breakdown of the damage and await their reply.

My refurb X20 arrived yesterday. Had an hour messing around with it this afternoon - very chuffed so far.

Feeling the need to bling it up a bit with one of those cute shutter release buttons and a posh strap. I guess eBay is the place to begin the search?

Mine was refurb and arrived 'as new'.

I bought a wrist strap and....bling. Spent £15 on a shutter button and the blooming thing fell off in a darkish castle room...could not find the damn thing. Opted for these http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00DCY239W/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

7 for £7 and they do the job nicely.

Also bought a lens hood and cap.

Oh, also bought a National Geographic bag....

No more....yet :)

Bad luck.. It's happened to me in the past, but managed to screw it straight back on and had no problems with it since. Over £300 OUCH!!!

I had a similar experience last September. The shutter release came to bits on my X10; I sent it with the bits to Fuji, they quoted £130 to repair it. I thought that was a bit steep considering it was just out of warranty and the had some of the bits, after my complaining they offered me the upgrade for £380. I reluctantly accepted, though I now have a somewhat diminished view of Fuji as a company.

Andrew, Nice picture, and what a good looking dog.

Good morning everyone,
Is anybody having problems uploading images to the TP Gallery?
I’ve always uploaded images at 1024 pixels on the longest side and as near to 200kb as possible, usually about 197kb ish.
The thing is I can’t get anywhere near these sizes to upload, What’s changed, “elp“.

Hello Joe,
A cracking set there matey. Number one is so smooth, are they strait out of the camera?

After having the X20 a little while now, I’m thinking the X10 has the edge on picture quality and let’s face it that’s what we buy a camera for. The bells and whistles are all very good and nice to have but if the end product aint as good, well?????.

In a day or 2, I'll have both cameras here so I'll try to take a few shots to compare directly. I suspect it'll be similar to the X-10/XF-1 comparison I did earlier in the year when it was an almost 50/50 split in preference and A3 prints were all but identical. In theory, the X-20 should deliver slightly sharper shots SOOC due to the lack of AA filter but how much difference that'll make in the real world remains to be seen!

Gotta admit I'm also impressed with those images.
Did you take them in RAW or JPEG?
If RAW, which conversion engine did you use?
Is there any post processing you routinely use on X10 images?

Also - I've used my X10 in a few concerts and shot 4 is bang on!
I'm guessing that was full manual exposure ?

Hey chaps, thanks very much for the feedback.

This was literally the first opportunity I had to use the camera.. I got it on the tuesday night, read the manual on the train and then started shooting.

All were therefore JPEG images as I had no raw converter on the PC.

All Av mode (Exif should be in tact). I always use spot metering and centre point focus, I use the AEL to lock the exposure and then recompose.

Hardly anything done in post.. all Canon's DPP.. Some cropping, desaturating. no more than 20 seconds per image!

I love this camera.

Joe, those are fantastic, will take mine out this weekend as i have been a bit slack lately.

OK, got all 3 baby Xs here ATM so took a few snaps, one from each camera, all at or around 28mm and approximately the same framing, all with onboard flash. Results, SOOC (bar resizing and cropping), HERE. Not 100% certain they're all at exactly the same settings - it's been a looooong day!

As one might expect there is slightly more detail in those X20 shots, but it would be hard to tell the x10 and xf1 apart.

In real life situations, the differences are all but indistinguishable. I haven't printed any of these shots (no point since the rug's hanging on the wall anyway!) but I (and anyone who's used any of them) know that a JPEG SOOC (with the camera set suitably WRT sharpening etc.) will print happily to a very nice A3 print. The differences between them are almost exclusively in the handling department. As I've said before, If I had to keep just one, it would be the XF-1, purely on its pocketabiliy but if that wasn't a priority, it would be the X-20 because it's the shiniest, newest toy!

Nod, where the middle images these x20? Sarah

Sarah, as you run your cursor over the images, the filename shows. The files are named as Camera full or Camera crop. Since the way the album is displayed seems to alter from device to device, I'm afraid I can't tell you exactly which images are X-20 and which are from the other cameras! I'll stick them all in a post with appropriate titles.
