The Official Fuji X10/X20/X30/XF1/XQ1 Thread

Although I hardly use my X10 now that I have the X20, and why would I?
I will hang on to it as it has a unique sensor and its own characteristics that are rather special. It will just retire and join the other ships (camera ) that passed in the night.

Hi, all, well my X20 has arrive and after using a gripped d300s it feels very strange.

The build quality feels amazing and I have to say it looks stunning.

So, now I need to learn how to use it, but my wife will be happy now that I don't have to take my DSLR when we go out.

Cheers.

Did you end up buying refurb from fuji shop UK? Hope it went well for you if you did.

I did indeed. Not bought a refurb before so wasn't exactly sure what I'd get but it is "like new" :D

Haven't shown my wife yet :bat:

Thanks again for all the advice

Cheers.

Hi everybody,
As some of you may remember three or four weeks ago, I had a “never mind” with my X10. Then through the Fuji camera repair centre, I upgraded, to an X20 at a favourable price.
Yesterday with the misuses help I finally got to use the new camera.
We had arranged for a tree surgeon to pollard the trees in the garden, and me being one never to miss an opportunity got “she who must be obeyed” to help support me, while I endeavoured to take some pictures with my new toy.
I thought it best to let the camera do the thinking, I know it’s similar to the X10, but new electronics and I take some coming together. With the camera outputting jpegs and set on “P” and with me reading off the sky or the man and adjusting the comp dial up and down, I completed my first outing with the X20.
I did try for silhouettes and they looked OK on the camera screen, but on the monitor, they weren’t as dark as I wanted, so some “PP” was necessary.
Overall, I was pleased with the cameras performance; there were shortcomings in the colour saturation and general vibrancy. This was probably down to the light or lack of, and my misuse.
The three images I have chosen to exhibit are representative of the mixed bag taken, others being of poorer composition and such. All three have had some “PP“and all three are crops.

Check to see what the DR is set to - it may be trying to give you a balanced image rather than what you want!

Those are pretty damn good shots, Rhodese. I was going to say "I prefer the first", then it was the second, then the third. They grow on me!

Nod, I have it set to auto, I will have a play the next time out, cheers.

Chris, thanks for the comment, I had a hard time picking three out of the sixty odd taken.

No probs!

BTW, 1 or 3 for me - #2's sky is a bit Velvia for my tastes!!!

Since getting my X20, it seems to be the one I use all the time. the poor old X100s seems to get left behind a lot.
Anyway, heres a few from a recent trip to France.

Fishing lake near Troyes. We parked overnight in the car park opposite.

Allan, I don’t see the first one, it reads unavailable. Is it just me?
I do like the vines; did you do a panorama of them?

Rhodese.

Si viewed on TP black that looks ace.

Rhodese.

Thanks! :)

You didn't have to edit the comment because you called me by my given name! :D

I usually respond to anything ranging from 'Oi' to 'Simon'! ;)

First one should be back now. No, I didn't do a panorama, for some reason I didn't even think about it. But, we will be going back soon, so plenty of time to get one then.

Hi Gary, Great shot I like that one very much. It's surprising what the little X10 can churn out.

How many people use their x10 as their main camera? I find myself picking it over my sony nex and my dslr as it's more fun to use. Anyone else have the same experience? Tempted up grade to x20 or x100. And sell the others. I like having the fast sync speed for flash. Recently went on holiday with my nex and my x10. Came back with 1100 pics, 950 were from the x10.

Anyone else have other fuji cameras they can recommend?

The cameras I tend to pick up and use most are my baby Xs. However, if I've got a particular shot in mind, I'll probably grab the D800 kit instead - it's a lot better for most things apart from portability. On out last holiday, I took the 2 Xs, a bridge and a DSLR - the baby Xs took around 90% of the shots.

Same here Scott. Always liked Fuji as a small camera brand and I've still got my F11, F200EXR and the S200EXR. I'm saving the pennies (need lots!) for an X-E1 now. I think I'd miss out on the fixed lens of the X100 but man, that little beggar can deliver the goods.:)

With the x20 is there a way to select the film simulations in the film simulation bracket mode ? On my x10 I only seem to be able to get Provia, astia and Velvia. Would be nice to have a black and white too.
Any one know if this is possible?

IMO, B&W conversion is best done in PP - and I hate PP!

Hi Scott, You should be able to see B&W plus B&W with green, red and yellow filters. There's also Sepia, There all there in the main menu and on the RAW menu button. What firmware is in your X10?

I can see them as individual shooting options. But can't change them in the bracketed shooting mode.

Sorry Scott I hadn't read your post properly:bonk: Just been looking but battery died.

Hope someone can answer what is probably a silly question but with the x20 when you change the shooting mode from single to continuous does that then mean if you 1/2 press and hold the shutter button that it will effectively work like al servo mode on a dslr? Reason I ask is because I'm getting very mixed results .

On my x10 you would still have to put it into continuous focus mode for subject tracking.

Continous focus mode works without pressing the shutter trying to keep scene in focus all the time. Pressing the shutter locks focus. Strange comparing with other cameras but on x 10 it is so and I beleive on x20 it is the same.

So to confirm , you just need to point the camera at the subject without touching anything and it will track?

Hi. One quick answer "Yes".

This page needs pictures :D

Yup - that's as steep as it looks.
No prizes for guessing where it was taken....

This ought to remove any doubt :)

I've shot plenty of smoke-trails before but never with a compact so I decided to see how the X20 would perform... Not too shabby if I do say so myself! :D

Duncan, I love the train.

Si, that’s cool.

Ditto from me on both counts! Love the train shot Duncan and Si, that smoke, great PP work! I reckon you should get that in one of them there fancy London art galleries:):)

Rhodese, Jim - many thanks!
My X10 is still delivering the goods - sometimes I wish I had the auto focus of the X20, but most of the time it does just fine.

Sorting my holiday pictures. This one was taken hiking near Mount Rainier using the panoramic mode on my X10. Did some post processing in Lightroom to bring out the detail on the mountain top.

Woo - very nice!
As a "wish I was there" piccy that's hard to beat.

This may sound a silly question but how do I know i'm shooting in RAW on my X10 ?

I have pushed the button on the back but i'm not 100% certain that I am shooting in RAW. I'm sure it can't be that hard to select ?

Many thanks,

Nick

Nigel, “WOW” just “WOW”.

Nick.
It depends on what firmware update you have installed as to whether the RAW button actually is the switch to bring Raw into play.
If there’s no update then yes use the Raw button on the back.

TP-X10_1-WEB.jpg

If the update has been installed, then use the menu or access it from the rear screen by pressing the RAW button. The update will have reassigned the RAW button to become a “Q” button. The Raw button will now open a “Q”uick access window on the screen.

TP-X10_2-WEB.jpg

Alternatively assign Raw to the “fn” button on the top plate.

The file type/size will tell you if it’s Raw.
If in doubt check in your PP program.

PS The jpegs are very good, read all the comments on the old X10 thread.

Rhodese.
