The Official Fuji X10/X20/X30/XF1/XQ1 Thread

Thanks nod, these were taken at Swanpool beach just outside of Falmouth where I live. Its quite a small beach but gets very busy during the summer!

Everywhere west of the bottom of the M5 is very busy during the summer! Not only that but the coast gets less interesting as far as weather etc goes. Just 2 reasins why any season but summer is my preferred shooting season "locally". I love the moors when they're all but deserted as well as the coast when it's devoid of people (and, just as important, the roads when the incompetent aren't dragging their dismal mobile home behind their underpowered drag vehicles!).

Been ages since I've visited Falmouth, although my parents used to visit a couple of times a year, renting a flat right down on the front near the Maritime Museum.

Nice work Keith love the processing in both, and especially the composition in no.2

Qucik question: I'm interested in using flash, but I don't know much about external flash units, other than that Fuji sell a couple. Is it going to be possible for me to find an external flash that will work with my X10 butalso with my ancient Pentax ME/MX film cameras?

What Pete says, or maybe Metz. I asked Metz if my 45CL-4 (non-digital) would be OK on the X10 with the SCA301 adapter, a chap by the name of Simon Biggs informed me it would. So on it went. The camera looks a little lost (see picture) but the flash is big and chunky and that suits me as it helps to hold cameras steadier even when not using the flash.
As my flash is pre-digital, I have to control things manually, I still use it with my A1 and T90, CP5700 AND d200.
But that is not to say that Metz digital guns are not retro compatible with film cameras, ask Metz, they are most obliging.

Thanks guys. I asked the same question in reverse on the Pentax forum, and got reassurance there too. It needs to work on both, as the idea is to use my X10 as a sort of "polaroid test" for film shots. Need to bear the amazingly different depth of field, though! Sometimes a small sensor is a real blessing!

You have to love Edinburgh with an X10, in good light. A city with a small mountain in the middle? From the top of Arthur's Seat, straight into the sun again...

... and carrying on round the hill, the Castle and Salisbury Crags!

So often I am flabbergasted by the results from this camera.

Was that today Chris? Was driving around Arthur's Seat this evening and it looked amazing in the light falling on it.

No, that was just at the end of February. I was looking through that set of shots for another reason, and suddenly thought, the X10 thread's been a bit quiet for non-fishing posts lately! I do love Holyrood Park, though; when we're in Edinburgh we stay nearby, and my wife walks round it every day.

I'm looking at buying a used Fuji X10. The seller bought it just before Xmas and says that it has firmware version 2 so has no orb issue, is this correct? Or should I be looking at X10's that have had their sensor changed?

If it was current stock, rather than new old stock purchased, then the sensor should already be the revised version.
Even if not, ask for the receipt, but I doubt Fujifilm will ask for it, if you contact them about that camera having the issue, and looking for the sensor to be replaced.

Ah, the light falling on it was exactly the same last night!

Great - thank you!

Rob, two nice ones there, they prove the later censor is not the be all and end all of presentable images. Great colour in No2.

Thank you, Rhodese. Both photos are SOOC. I'm still awaiting better weather to be able to judge the true character of my new-sensored X10. So far, I've only been able to notice a difference, and I'm struggling. But I'm sure that once I get a few miles in with the new sensor, I'll find my bearings.

On a different note, I've been reading the first few field reports covering the new X100s. Oh dearie me, what lovely creamy output...

I found the sooc shots from my x100 really creamy and I loved that and miss it. I don't want to look at the x100s when an upgrade on the DSLR is badly needed

A few more from my X10. No comments required really.......... I just enjoy sharing the shots from this lovely little camera:) All taken during a day trip to Brighton with my wife. I always carry the X10 and the X100 when the main focus of the day is not photography - and usually find time and an excuse to have a play:lol:

Keith first wheel shot is fantastic!

Keith,

that's my neck of the woods! Good shots, the straight picture of the wheel has in interesting modelled look to it, has it had some pp? Your technique is a bit like mine, a bit of stealthy shooting on non photographic trips to keep the peace - just what the X10 was made for.

Thanks Peter........I love Brighton and it always provides a good compromise for me on days out - she shops, I shoot:)

These were all processed using an App called Snapseed. I don't have a style - I just try for what I think looks good, but I do like contrasty stuff!

Those really are BRIGHT!

Something a little different from me...

DSCF6575.jpg

That's lovely. Focus on the eye is spot on and great feather detail.

It was one in focus shot from quite a few taken! :D At full size the eye is spot on. I was quite pleased with the effort.

Even though the bird is very trusting (and easily bribed with sultanas!) it doesn't stay still for long, and the focus lag of the camera often resulted in either blurred shots or ones with no bird in them.

What’s happening where’s everybody gone? 13 days from top of the last page to this post. Is it the weather? If so, following Keith’s lead I’ll post a memory of last summer.

Dave, that Blackbird is stunning. Who would have thought it was taken with a compact?

I've been a bit lax with the X10 since selling my X100, I didnt realise how much I used it and got out of the habit of always having a camera with me.

So, new Spring resolution. Get out with the camera more.

Rhodese.

Things surely have quietened down a little. I don't know how or why; Duncan's gone AWOL, and so have a few others. I guess it's nothing more than what is to be expected. The X10 was quite a roar a while ago; people either loved it or hated it, and that alone made it so interesting. But people have moved on. To me, the X10 is still my main camera, and probably will be for some time to come. I'd love to get my hands on an X100s, but that's a different story...

I hope to see many more pictures here in this thread, including my own. Rhodese, your shot is just great: dreamy, almost surreal. Abolutely love it.

Due to personal circumstances, I haven't been out and about that much. Might seem like a lame excuse, I know. It's just the way it is. Just checked, my last photo was taken early Febs. As soon as I've rekindled that little flame, there'll be more from me.

Allan, second and third are really great colour. Just been looking at some MF Velvia over on Photos from Film and the colours are similar.

Jon, that first shot is far from cold and dreary-looking. The second one is, though!

Rob, the X10 is still my main, my only digital camera, but I seem to be putting a lot of energy into film these days. Back to the X10 for my 52 though; it was too frustrating trying to do it (only) on film.

Haven't yet spotted a X20 thread, I think we should try to capture the X20 stuff here. Guess we can't change the title, only Duncan can!

Not the weather - I'm still lurking and watching you chaps but decided to take a back seat after a few public comments about my posts (and PM's) - you know us sensitive arty types hehe ;) Funny but the whole lifecycle of my photography concluded here. With that taken away it kind of de-motivates. I guess I was shooting, and posting quite a lot!

Anyway keep going - it's been very interesting watching your styles develop. I will continue to be a silent observer.

BTW - I'm still X10'd up and believe in the little camera. It is a great camera and will prove the test of time.

You might have guessed that this is my sort of picture, Rhodese - lovely scene, lovely colours. Maybe sparse in number, but I've enjoyed the pictures posted on the last couple of pages demonstrating the versatility of this little camera. Chris's Edinburgh, Dave's blackbird, the 'alleyway' on this page etc. etc., all great stuff.

Has interest been lost to the X20? Saw one yesterday priced at £499 in the window of the little shop in Wells, but resisted the temptation to go in and have a closer look.

Nice to know you're 'there'! I really don't understand such comments, Martyn, when it is only a matter of split seconds to scroll past anything that is not to taste. I say, "keep 'em coming"!

I said something similar to your last sentence some months ago, and met with justified censure from a certain quarter. Be warned!

I for one was influenced into buying an X10 solely due to this brilliant thread. It was people such as yourself, Allan and others who showed what was possible with this outstanding bit of kit. Not knowing the ins and outs of the public comments towards you (forgive my ignorance on this), I feel that it is essential that people who use equipment to produce such outstanding results should feel free to continue to inspire others of less skill/artistic merit to try to emulate them. This is a photography forum and if we are lucky enough to have great practitioners willing to share their results, I feel they should be encouraged to do so. Mini rant over.
