The Official Fuji X10/X20/X30/XF1/XQ1 Thread

Even with best frame capture, the shutter speed will be too slow to freeze any movement at night. The idea of best frame is that if you are unable to time your shutter press accurately, the camera will save pictures before and after you fully press the shutter and hopefully you will get the shot you want.

You're best to experiment with flash, either in camera or as a separate unit if you want to get shots of moving people in low light.

I agree with Alan and add
...don't be afraid to experiment with high ISO!

Using ISO 3200 and f2.0 will allow images to be captured in a candle lit restaurant with image quality good enough to be printed to A5.
I'm sure your home won't be as dark as that!
 
One from the weekend; the coast of Exmoor.
This was definitely a walking trip, not photography. 16 miles in high humidity without a breath of wind :gag:
Most of the day was spent in mist and drizzle; but when it occasionally opened up, it was gorgeous.

If the sun had been shining onto the coast underneath the mist, this shot would have been epic. But with the sun shining away from the land it's relegated the shot to just being for my scrapbook.

Duncan - that is an amazing shot. Know what you're saying about the sun - but still a great capture!
 
Typical! I have two days to go to my holiday and I have found an issue with my X10 since it's return from the sensor change.

Every time I change the battery the settings are forgotten, and I have to enter the time and date in the camera plus the screen power option. Is this a change to do with software update? Anyone else noticed this issue?

Yikes - I haven't had to change the battery since I got mine back!
Taking out to put on charge right now as I want to know too!

How long does it need to be battery out before settings are lost ?

I've certainly not had this problem! But mine had the new sensor when I bought it...
 
I left over night, and lost the settings but that was when I only had the one battery. now I put in a new one at once, and have never had a problem.
 
Thanks guys, what about 360 degree panoramics? Seems cool but I don't understand what you are supposed to do with the picture? It has two start origins?
 
The start and finish are the edges of the picture. If you imagine having a 360 degree ( circular) image then open it out and lay it flat, thats what you end up with.
You should be able to view it in any picture manager or photo processing programme.

Its easier to see than explain. Heres one I took a while ago, in fact its the first one I did, so its not brilliant, but you get the picture ( sorry!)

Duncan - instantly. Would be quite miffed to get factory settings every time I change a battery seeing as I set up quite a lot in the camera now.

Fuji said that the internal battery charges off the main battery. Thing is my main battery (and fully charged) was in since my tests on Sat at a wedding. So think somehow they've managed to make the connection between the two faulty. Perhaps a circuit connection or something. They are sending me a replacement camera urgently.
 
Terry - overnight.. really! I've never had the problem even leaving it weeks between no battery in camera. Frustrating as everything else (e.g. noise, horizon level, orbs) are all as should be expected.

It actually has four (excuse the pants arrow graphics)...

--> From left to right
^ From bottom to top
v From top to bottom
<-- From right to left

You access the choices from the advanced pano menu using the --> (right side button on the subcommand dial) direction on the subcommand dial.

The other option is angle. You access this option from the advanced paoi menu using the v (down button on subcommand dial). You can choose 120, 180, 360 and another 360 (don't know what the end 360 is for but it may be like a free option that although its set on 360 allows you to start and stop on exactly what percentage of sweep you would like without having to complete the angles you've set in the other options).

Once you've set the option you want just follow the arrow direction on your screen and sweep.

It kept the picture settings but I lost the date time.
I have not checked since, as it has a new sensor and software.

I had my heart set on one of these but have now had my head turned by the Sony RX100. Does anyone have hands on experience with both cameras? Why would people say the pros/cons are of each?

They're very different. It's the handling, manual zoom and ergonomics, plus the Fuji colours which do it for me every time. It depends what you photograph I suppose. I've never liked Sony's skintones. But the RX100 does have the extra resolution if you intend to print big. Plus it's pocketable. Best thing is to go along to your local camera store and have a play.

Fuji are about to announce some new cameras, if you can hold on for a bit longer.
 
I took the X10 for another trip to sunny Brighton yesterday. I'm still enjoying using it and find my 40d gets left behind on family trips out now.There not up to the standard of the others on the thread but here are some of the pictures I took with it...

Went out for a walk yesterday with the new dog ( Beagle Harrier cross) and saw this sunset.
I used the sunset setting, never used it before, but it picked up the sun dogs ( see what I did there!).
I am sure with a bit more time I would have got a better shot, but I quite like this. Its a straight out of the camera jpeg

I'm going to New York in December and don't want to take my 400d and lenses. Could the fuji colours not be achieved in PP though via plugins in Lightroom?

I've had an extensive play with it. I don't like it for all the negatives dpreview has stated.

I'm thrilled to bits with my x10, the manual zoom, retro looks, controls, fast and very very good optics...its just a pleasure to use.

That sunset setting is great. I've experimented with it a few times.

On a side note... and the seaside anorak git I am. That wouldn't happen to be Isle of Sheppey in the background would it? Perhaps shot taken from the East side of Herne Bay from the area I think the locals call the downs?

I'm off to for my Korea/Japan/Munich trip tomorrow so catch you all in October. Fingers crossed the promised X10 replacement turns up in the morning *nervous*

If you want to spend 20 minutes on each picture. Light is never the same and therefore no fixed settings that you can batch will really replicate it. Get the X10 :love:
 
Does anyone know the serial numbers from when they started fitting the new sensors at the factory? I'm looking at getting an X10 and don't want the old sensor version!

Your right with Sheppey in the background, but the shot was taken from Tankerton Slopes, near to the sailing clubhouse.

Good luck with the trip, look forward to the photographic record...

(I think the new sensor serial numbers start from 22)

I had a quick play with the Sony. It felt like a more solid Canon S100.

I have an S90 (which is similar to use to an S100) and since buying the X10, I haven't used the S90 at all due to the way the X10 handles.

I know people may shoot this comparison down on the grounds that the Sony is newer and better image quality than the S90 but the fact is, it's pretty much the same thing, just better quality. The X10 however is a totally different camera to anything else out there and I love it.

I think the RX100 may take more detailed/better photos but I wouldn't swap for my X10 because the X10 is an absolute pleasure to use.

If I NEED better quality I'll use my 5DII but the X10 has become my fun, first choice camera.
 
I have a d90 and the x10 is lovely. Shame the battery is pants. I love the panamoramic feature.

Made my self a Leather stitching pony over the past few days.
Mostly brown oak but I made rock maple jaws and screw tightener.
with A pair of 9mm Neodymium magnets as needle parks.
Under the base and rotating part I used cork/neoprene gasket material
You can use it on a table or in a lounge chair

The X10 makes a nice little set up camera for the web.

When you stitch leather you use two blunt ended needles at either end of a single thread.
You hold a needle and an awl in one hand and a needle in the other.
If you are counting...:|
you have run out of hands to hold the pieces of leather....:eek:
so you use either a large freestanding stitching horse :thumbsdown:
or a little pony like this one.:thumbs:

Has anyone actually gone for the official Fuji leather case for the X10?
I'm only asking because a little bird told me that I might be getting one for my birthday from the mother-in-law.
Not sure whether to step in and suggest a cheaper one if it's not worth the extra cost over the ebay cases.

5) I've always loved the shape of this copse and previously only managed to get the shape of the tress in Winter when there are no leaves. Full marks to the X10 for capturing this contrasty scene!
