If you have face detection enabled, then you only get the multi option and cant move the focus point. These appear to be your symptoms.

Thanks for all the replies. Allan, your are correct thanks for the help.
So, at 35mm, I get the distance scale showing infinity till I get about 1.5 m away then it starts moving in, not accurate at all, still shows 10m about 1 m away then starts to get a little more accurate. 0.5m on the scale is quite close to the actual distance away.
At all other zoom settings, the scale shows more accuracy, but at 5m, the scale varies between 3 and 5 metres quite regularly each time I half press the shutter.
Mine came back with the artificial horizon skewed after the software fix.
Took this shot just now. Artificial horizon was showing green!

When I pluck up the courage, I will contact Fuji to get it sent back.
I'll take some pics tomorrow showing the viewfinder accuracy, getting too dark now...
Allan
Exactly the same as mine regards the distance scale. It seems they can not fix it in the hardware or software. But complain about it when you send it in.
On the last trip (fourth) they fixed the artificial horizon. it is a software fix mine is now spot on.
As to my view finder. I put my X10 on the table yesterday and it rolled onto its back, with a slight plonk. The view finder is now "Much better" not perfect just better... I suspect there is some thing not as tight as it should be in the viewfinder optical system. (sealed unit). Might even be moving about inside on trips back and forth to Fuji.

What mode are you in?

P.S. Is the X10 waterproof and rust proof. It's absolutely 'chucking' it down here in Totnes - what an awful rainy year is 2012 not great for photographers![]()

What the photograph shows is that the Viewfinder is including MORE to the left and LESS to the right.
It is pointing LEFT and not centrally.
If it was central equal amounts of the hatch and picture would be cut.
This is the simplest test to calculate the error from a single pair of shots.
This has nothing to do with the 85% view (a useful safety factor), or parallax, which would skew it by only 1.5 cm at 5 meters in the other direction ( but an insignificant amount)
What I am finding out, is how other peoples X10' behave under the same conditions.
Were the shot of a group of people, the right most would be cut off and there would be a gap on the left.
Perhaps yours points straight... only a test will show. that is the information I need to demonstrate.
Terry, I tried this, and I'm not sure about the results. But they give me a possible clue (which might only mean you need to reword your test). You ask us to align the left edge of the screen with an object, and then the left edge of the viewfinder with the same object.
I think this necessarily means the camera turns sligtly to the left, to compensate for the 85% element. And that means it see less of the right and more of the left. If I'm right, if you tried this again with the right hand picture frame, you'd see opposite results.
Another test would be to hang something in the centre of that window and focus on it with in the centre of the OVF. Take a shot and see if it is still central. AFAICS it is for me...
I needed to go out and reduce our woodpile and found this chap when I cleared around the chopping block.
These are jpegs straight out of the camera.

and nice frog (or is it a toad?!)
Riz said:Had a play with one yesterday in jessops. Looks nice, viewfinder is a bit strange. I think I'll order one!

Duncan's is. Every couple of weeks he takes it to Wales and holds it out in the rain for a few hours. Some kind of primitive West Country ritual?![]()
Just been reading back, through the thread, and spotted this - I'm in the West Country, Totnes South Devon, so what you saying like![]()
That cat has real attitude.....I got my X10 back from Fuji for the sensor replacement today, its only been away for a couple of weeks, but i'd forgotten how nice it was.
It was raining outside so I had to test it out on my long suffering cat, who has more than had enough of being my primary model, and he expressed his distain with a massive yawn, i bore him so much.
The X10 seems ok at a quick glance, but i'm going to test it more thoroughly over the next few days, however I"m picking up a Sony RX100 tomorrow, so i'll probably be overwhelmed with new toy syndrome, so it will probably be a week or so before i check the X10 properly.

Um, I think I'll stop digging now!
However, based on Duncan's advice, I did take my X10 up Snowdon and carried on taking shots in the rain and hail. Once home, took the battery out, extended the lens and left to dry. Seems fine. YMMV of course; no guarantees!!!![]()

Managed to read the first 30 or so pages of this before deciding a needed one. Delivery in a couple of days. Needless to say I am looking forward to it!
Thanks for all the information in here from everyone!
I like the fact that it sits on my computer desk so always at hand.

The cat.......or the X10?![]()

I should probably RTFT (thread) but can I ask a n00b question(s)?
a) how do I know if my camera has the 'old' sensor?
b) if I'm not experiencing any issues, what is the advantage of getting it replaced for 'new' sensor?
cheers!
