Anyway, posh straps? Those Gordy aren't posh are they?!
looking at those Gordy they can't be that hard to make oneself!!
Do I just glue it back on? It's one of the little features that makes the X10 work for me; it's just right to allow my damaged right hand to hold it properly without getting cramp. Extra point for consideration: my X10 was one of the first to get its sensor changed; I've never received an email from Fuji about it at all (before, during or after), and nothing about the software upgrade. Perhaps I should ring them up and see about getting both done at once?So is the X10 a non-standard mini-USB, or is there another mini-USB standard plug size I should know about?
I still haven't sent mine off to be 'repaired' yet... The way things are going, I don't think I'll bother!
I've been so busy with work and the new baby lately that I haven't had a chance to post a great deal. I was working in Welshpool yesterday and happened to arrive in town just as the steam engine from the Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway was getting ready to depart. It would have been very remiss of me not to go and take a few pictures!
The station is right next to the main A458 so trying to get shots without including passing traffic was difficult.
The X10 is definitely becoming my 'black and white camera'... I seem to prefer the mono output to the colour images I get.

Si - hello and glad to hear you and the family are well
Some great shots posted in that bunch. You've created the feel of old world style photos. I have been experimenting with B&W but converting from colour rather than shooting in mono.
Is the only reason you choose to shoot in Mono because you want to see the B&W on the LCD when you take the shot, or are there other reasons to do so?
...I see in the first pic the style is very soft. In some of your original B&W shots you worked with a much sharper, almost HDR, B&W style. Have you reduced the sharpness in camera or softened the shot post production
...I quite like that RAW button option to take just one RAW when I feel like it ...

OK, I’ve hade this little beauty for a day and love it, I haven’t taken any pictures to show yet but a question has arisen. How do I change the ppi output from 72 to say 240 or 300, or indeed is this possible. On my Nikon dslr’s the output is 240ppi and I thought this a more appropriate resolution for any decent camera?
I know I can resize and all that in Photoshop but surely a native resolution from the camera of 240ppi would be better?
Anybody?
Must admit I get questions like this down the club and I've never found a satisfactory answer.
The 'i' is inches.
If you haven't yet decided how big to display the image then how do you know the size in inches?
So setting DPI or PPI at the time of taking is really only allowing you to set the default paper size when you open the image in Photoshop.
Or am I missing something?
That is arguable 72 is the native screen resolution.
The default is not restrictive in any way. And does not change the availabe quality of a captured image.
Thanks Duncan, maybe I am not making myself clear, she who is most wise and must be obeyed, informs me of this all the time. So, as I understand things 72 pixels per inch is the resolution for screen display, 240/300 ppi is ok for close inspection prints, and 150ppi for distance viewed prints i.e. wall mounted 16/20s. Isnt dpi a printer term?
Therefore, from a 10MP chip (3872x2592), you would get approximately 16x 11at 240ppi and 53x36 at 72ppi. I think a print at the 72ppi wouldnt be great. To reformat a jpeg in PS means a loss of quality to some degree, so I just thought that Fuji would have opted for a higher res as with DSLRs.
Its no big deal, its a great camera all the same.
PS
The RAWs are OK.
Brian's not very bright, he must try harder, now where have I heard that phrase before? cheers everyone.
A question to the guys who shoot JPEG I have some questions about the settings on my x10. I know much more about film than I do digital photography so I understand the basic mechanics of photography, lenses, aperture ISO shutter etc but some of the more in-depth settings are beyond me.
What do you guys use for colour, wb shift, highlight tone, shadow tone sharpness and noise reduction? If you could explain your reasonings and maybe post some examples that would be great.
Thanks a lot,
Asa
Hi SD,
Family are doing really well thanks... I need to take some more shots of the little 'un with the X10 but I'm a bit loved up by my 5DMKIII and EF50mm f/1.4 at the moment!
I always shoot medium sized RAW+JPEG so that I've got the best from the sensor and the greatest amount of flexibility overall. I tend to set the camera to shoot in mono so that I've got an idea about what to expect but having the RAW file means I can change my mind if I want to.
It wasn't so much softened as 'not sharpened' to the same extent as normal...
That's why I shoot to capture both formats... SD cards are cheap and I find that with an 8GB card, I've got plenty of room for loads of images.![]()

Hi,
I'm thinking of buying either a refurbished X10 from Fuji or maybe a secondhand one on ebay.
I contacted Fuji customer support to ask if their refurbished models have had their sensors replaced or if I bought one on ebay that needed replacing would this be covered under the free replacement programme, but I haven't received any reply from them.
Could anyone give me some advice on sensor replacement in these circumstances?
Thank you

Thanks for the advice (and the promo code).
How have you found your refurbished models? Are they in good condition - or a bit rough round the edges?
My X10 was immaculate. Not a mark or scratch anywhere. Everything that should have been in the box was present. Given the saving, it is a no brainer. Thanks for the advice (and the promo code).

Tbh, refurbs are cheaper and likely to be 100% checked over before being sold. I'd say it's a no-brainer.

Constructive critique/commentary sought. Took the x10 out for a wander before meeting my GF to go see a film - day has been sunshine and showers all day, with emphasis on showers. These shots have just had autofix and (cropped in one example) in trial version of Photoshop Elements 10. I dunno, they just don't seem to 'pop' compared to many of the shots I see elsewhere (and on this thread!)
All taken in EXR mode
Cheers Jason

Oh, and if you do decide to go along this path, then don't forget to use the promo code P10FEB15.![]()

Dealt with Fuji several times since buying and NO discrimination because it was refurbished.
