Quirk alert.

In area focus mode with face detection enabled the AF button is disabled, so you're stuck with the central point.

I thought I'd bust the AF button. :lol:

Have now set C2 to have face detection on. :thumbs:
 
I can't seem to get my x10 to go past f9 in shutter priority. Anyone know what causes this? f11 would be much handier for the long exposures.
 
I can get to ƒ11 in Aperture priority. Can you use that, or maybe try in manual mode

Aye I can in A. Just thought it might be easier in shutter priority for my long exposures than in manual. Will have to try.


Well the other night with the light fading and my battery going I just managed to get this quick shot. Stupidly I forgot my spare battery so I couldn't retake this shot but oh well!

A bit of orbing which is a shame, I guess why you can see why I am interested in the new sensors :)

I wanted the x100 so badly, but opted for the x10 it wasn't based on price but for the only reason of the zoom, as i have never got on with non zoom / prime lens. Yes i know there are supposedly better and so is the sensor of the x100. I dont regret my purchase at all...........I love it........!!

Thanks for all the replies so far people, I really cannot decide between the two, I am hopefully going to have a play with an X10 properly tomorrow to help the decision :) But after seeing some of the results in this thread it's not hard to see the possibilities with it :)

I think the camera did pretty well considering that it was shot in the wind, holding the camera down at an awkward angle while it was just starting to rain. 1/200 at F2.

Just think if I'd been concentrating.....

Will you be having any filter/s?

Lastly can you do me a favour by measuring the front to back of the camera, with the hood in place, so I can get a bag/case sorted and get my order in from eBay for my hoody!!!

I'm with Nick errr I mean Daz on this - sorry couldn't help taking a line from the Prime Ministerial debates :D

The absence of a zoom on the X100 pointed me in the direction of the X10. While I prefer the hybrid VF of the X100 and long one day for the X10's Raw files to be readable by my Mac ( are you listening Apple? ) the X10 suits me better. It's incredibly light and small and slips easily into a small and similarly light messenger bag. My X10 is primarily a secondary ( even tertiary shooter ) and is for those occasions when a DSLR would be out of place so in almost every way which includes cost, it fits the bill. I may consider an updated X Pro 1 if it would tend towards being a DSLR replacement but I cannot see a rangefinder matching what a DSLR can do. Who knows what the future holds eh?

What program are you using to try and read the raw files? I have Lightroom 3.6 and it reads the files fine.
iPhoto 11 and Aperture won't though.

The supplied Silkypix software installs on a Mac and reads the files fine. Need an OS update to get X10 RAW working on the Mac and this can be as much a Fuji issue as Mac as Fuji have to do their part in supplying the info to Mac.

I will not use RAW until RAW is available via Mac OS as I am not willing to use a program that takes 10+ seconds for each change (Silkypix) and I am not buying Lightroom as I don't need or want it when iPhoto actually does all I need and also don't know how well Lightroom performs either.
 
Having followed this thread for a while, I took the plunge and ordered a refurb X10 on Friday and it's just arrived. Looks immaculate. Battery charging and can't wait. I have been looking at different cases and can't really afford the leather one at present but did someone say that the Lowepro AW 60 was a good fit?

I don’t use it myself – I have Photoshop – but have you tried RAW PHOTO PROCESSOR (RPP). It’s a (quote) “Universal application that works on all G4 and higher PowerPC and all Intel based Macs with Mac OS 10.4, 10.5, 10.6 and 10.7.”.

As I say, I don’t use it but I have tried it, and it does open X10 RAW files. It’s also free, although you can donate if you wish.

Interesting Chris.

I installed from the Fuji disc and it wouldn't read/open the RAW files. Perhaps I need to reinstall. However now that I'm running 10.7.3, the Fuji software won't run on it as it only goes to 10.6 :shrug:

Thus for now I stay with JPg although I shoot in both and drag the RAW files into a folder for future access. PITA is having to remember to do that after I download the Jpgs.

Thanks for that friend.:thumbs: I may have to investigate it although I rather prefer to work in an entirely Mac environment.....well as much as I can anyway.
 
I have LR, it came free with a camera I bought last year and although I also have the book, still haven't really tried to use RAW much. Till now ( because I forgot to take the RAW setting off when I took this).
So, heres one I converted to Jpeg earlier. An update on the dandelion head.....

Strange, the supplied Silkypix installed and runs without fault and I am on 10.7.3 too. A reinstall couldn't hurt.
Don't put too much effort in though as saying it is painfully slow is an understatement, worse software performance ever :thumbsdown:

"DayDreamer" it is exactly 8cm from the start of the rubbery eye cup to the end of the lens hood.

I have the official fuji leather case, it doesn't fit in this case with lens hood attached.

However i usually carry Lowepro flipside ruck sack so there is plenty of room to store lens hood separate form camera

Hi SD,

You're right, I got mine from HeavyStar... Quick shipping from the US as well! :)

I haven't had any problems with fitting and it doesn't sit too proud on the lens barrel either. In fact, it's probably the most useful accessory I've got so far!

Here's a few from me from last night... The colour ones are the in-camera JPEGS with a few tweaks (a first for me!) ;)

I remember reading back in thread that some people were having problems with cokin filters!? Did the problem ever get solved!? Looking to get an infrared and some nd grada but dont want to waste money!!

Hi Will,

The only real issue with using Cokin A filters relates to the use of the viewfinder... The actual holder covers up about 80% of the view. It's not a problem in real-world use though because you can still compose with the screen. :)

Your photos once again astound. When you say "tweaks" do you mean crop or something else? The breakwall with the sunset is my personal favourite - your composition is spot on. How you get the exposure on the brickwork and the sky without a LR adjustment is beyond me.

The advantage of the heavystar over the standard fujifilm 'adapter' is that it is completely sealed, whereas the fuji adapter has gaps running around it which can sometimes let in light and/or dust. The heavystar step ring allows the lens to be completely sealed with any screw-in filters or a lens cap.

It is a 40-52mm step ring like the fuji adapter so either will give you a much larger range of filters but it is whether you mind the gaps or not. I wanted it completely sealed so went for the heavystar.

Thanks Samuel :-) That’s a comprehensive answer!

I understand one major disadvantage with the Fuji adapter - the dust. But I wonder - was it designed that way so that condensation issue was eliminated from a sealed adapter lens?
 
My bank account officially hates these forums now, but me? Well I'm super excited about opening the X10 that sits infront of me! :D One play with it in the camera shop and I was sold, realised it was a lot more versatile than the X100 and that's what I want from a take everywhere camera, it also just felt right in my hands :)
Also managed to play with an X-Pro1, what an odd-shaped camera was my first thought, feels strange to hold, but it does take some nice photos, so I quickly put it back as I didn't fancy selling some vital organs :p
So thanks everyone in this thread so far for providing lovely samples and talk about this camera, I shall be adding soon with those standard 'first snap' type photos :)
