I've been following this thread for awhile now as I was considering getting an X10 as a walkabout option instead of carrying a DSLR around, so today I decided to go and try one out. I have to say that I was actually a bit disappointed with the build quality and feel overall, after reading many of the reviews. I did like some aspects; like the on/off switch and zoom on the lens barrel and the large clear viewfinder, but, I though the sub command dial/switch cluster was awful - kept selecting Macro mode when I was adjusting shutter speed in manual and so on.
For me an important factor is just how it feels in the hand and TBH it wasn't that great, so it will stay in the potential purchase list, but I wouldn't be happy to part with £391 for one. So I'm glad I decided to give one a good look over rather than just taking a punt on one mail order as I would have been rather disappointed, which is a bit of a shame as it seem to do everything (and more) than I could want
