I suppose it depends on what you mean by a small bag. I bought my X10 a Billingham f2.8, so I can fit some other necessities in it too. There's also the Billingham Hadley small. Both these bags are about a foot wide, and reasonably deep - so they're small, but not tiny. And they do look wonderful.

I think the new sensors will be available from May. X10 owners would need to contact Fuji Support and gain a reference number (they will request your serial number and you will be expected to have installed the firmware) - Fuji will then ship out a box for the camera. I'm not sure what the turnaround time will be, not long I'd imagine as it's a sensor/lens whole assembly swap (I think). I'll be very interested to see what this new sensor consists of!

Thanks but looking for something smaller really, and cheaper - though I realise they are quality bags, sometimes use a small rucksack and chuck the camera bag in the rucksack.
 
I have a lowepro apex 60 aw here brand new that is getting returned as it was too small for my x100 if anyone is interested?..unused just opened to see if x100 would fit.

I use a small CaseLogic Messenger Bag

My X10 with hood assembly sits comfortably in the main compartment which is located to the rear of the bag. It's reasonably well padded but as a precaution, I line the base with spare inserts from my other cases. This section is large enough to take a rocket blower in addition to the X10. I'll take a picture in the morning so you can have a look at the set up. My cellphone spare batteries, cards, the lens cap of the X10 and other small items go into the front compartment.

The CaseLogic is a great little bag with a strap long enough for me to wear the case across my shoulders. It allows easy access and storage of t=my X10 and doesn't look at all like a camera bag.
 
Hope most of you are taking advantage of this lovely day. I’m sat in work – would rather be out in nature snapping some pics with my X10!

It may have got missed - one issue I've noticed on my X10 is the way the composition jumps around when I press the shutter button halfway to focus. In my LCD view it shifts the whole image to the right, left up or down. Not sure how the camera does this to be honest. Anyone else experience this?

Trying my best to, took this at Twycross Zoo. I thought as it was handheld, through glass in an internal enclosure it is pretty good. If it helps, it has turned cooler out there.

No it don't help - I'm sat at a big window in the city overlooking tower bridge wondering why I'm the only mug to offer a customer a good will gesture and it still looks gorgeous outside... but thanks hehe

PP was a crop and slight boost to vibrance and added a bit back to the blacks in LR, about 2 mins work :)

At least you feel better for giving a good well gesture to please a customer :thinking:

Hehe - thats the theory however in practise I'm missing X10 practise!

Well great photo and PP work. Looks amazing. Still stunned there is glass between the camera and snake.

On another note - how do you get the photo on here with a click through to FLICKR? I have been copying and pasting the static farm flickr link as I can't copy and past the HTML that links to the image in the post.

The glass must have been cleaned!

All I do is; from the Flickr share drop down box, for the desired image, select the BBCode and copy and paste that directly into the message window on TP, then post.
 
Hi

A bit of guidance because what I have found has confused me!

I thought the X10 and X-s1 used the same sensor and displayed good high ISO performance.

I was comparing the images on the site below with a Panasonic G3 and the Fuji images at 800 and above were noisier than I expected. is this normal?

I ordered an X10 from the Fuji refurb shop two days ago Thursday. I missed selceting next day delivery :bonk: so am now wondering how long it will take to arrive on standard delivery - anyone help on this.

i ordered mine on a sunday evening and it arrived on wednesday
dont forget to allow for the bank holiday weekend though
also mine had taken 12 images and was impossible to distinguish from new

Great thread, has taken me a long time to catch up! I have decided ti take the plung an order an x10 from the refurb site later today! I have been waiting to see some of the reviews of the canon x1 pro and decided that its not worth the money!

I have a fuji s3pro at the moment, do you guys think the menu layout will be the same!?

Any tips on what extras too buy!? Loving the leather cases but dont think i can afford a fuji one!

A filter and lens hood would be the first thing, for cases some cheapo's on ebay or you could buy my nice black half leather case as seen in the classifieds! :D

Look for the HeavyStar adapter rings on Ebay... That'll give you the step-up from Fuji's proprietary size to 49mm and then fit things like UV filters from there. I have mine fitted permanently and it doesn't cause any vignetting.

I got a full 'leather' case from Ebay as well for about £15. It looks good and does a good job of protecting the camera. The fact that I can leave the UV on with it is an added bonus. :)

If you're looking for an actual case to keep it all in, a lot of people have been recommending the LowePro Apex but I found a small bag in Calumet while I was at Focus On Imaging earlier this year that fits a treat. It'll take the camera with the UV on and the front pouch holds a spare battery, a Cokin A adapter, ring and Kood graduated filter and a cable release. :)
 
Brilliant, Thanks!! Have you had any problems using a cokin a filter holder? Doesnt make the camera too heavy or cause any problem with the lens?

No problems at all using the Cokin A holder... I think there's a shot earlier in the thread showing the set-up. The only problem I'm having is with the Kood graduated ND. The magenta cast is god-awful so I might try and find something else. I think I've got an old, scratched P series grad knocking about that wouldn't take a lot of effort to cut down to size. :)

I'm having tons of luck with this little camera, I managed to buy it brand new in PC World for £339, the very first picture I shot was a keeper (which never happens!) and now I just ordered a full (faux) leather case and two batteries for £17.00 all in (including delivery) from Ebay :D

How about the lens hood and filter adaptor?

I would imagine this was a more useful item that the retro case. A clear glass filter would be my recommendation and are respectively £37 and £15 from Amazon.

If you look aback at this thread I use a small Case Logic messenger bag for my X10 which allows me to carry all my accessories and other small items without attracting attention You can also wear it across your shoulders ala Jack Bauer :lol: It costs just a little over £14 again from Amazon. If I sound like an advertisement for Amazon please let me assure you that I'm not ;)

I've been hovering around this forum for a few weeks now enjoying your pictures and reading with interest your comments about the little Fuji.

I am about to take the plunge and order one for myself. I had originally planned to buy brand new, but the prices of the refurbished version with the discount code is hard to ignore, as on the face of it looks to be a cracking deal.

Can I just ask those of you who have gone this route;
what exactly is a refurbished camera?
Does it differ in any way from a brand new one?
Do they show any signs of use?
Are they guaranteed in any way?

Sorry for all the questions, but I just don't want to catch a cold.

one sticker on the box stating its a refurbished model
mine was impossible to distinguish from a new one and had taken 12 images

I've been following this thread for awhile now as I was considering getting an X10 as a walkabout option instead of carrying a DSLR around, so today I decided to go and try one out. I have to say that I was actually a bit disappointed with the build quality and feel overall, after reading many of the reviews. I did like some aspects; like the on/off switch and zoom on the lens barrel and the large clear viewfinder, but, I though the sub command dial/switch cluster was awful - kept selecting Macro mode when I was adjusting shutter speed in manual and so on.

For me an important factor is just how it feels in the hand and TBH it wasn't that great, so it will stay in the potential purchase list, but I wouldn't be happy to part with £391 for one. So I'm glad I decided to give one a good look over rather than just taking a punt on one mail order as I would have been rather disappointed, which is a bit of a shame as it seem to do everything (and more) than I could want :(

Each to their own Paul. This thread has 100 pages of pretty happy customers comments. It felt a bit weird to me coming from a gripped 40d (which I have ended up keeping) but I love the camera. Sure it has a few niggles and not everyone will like it, but it has given my personal photography and video a massive boost...

Yes, reading through this thread there is no doubt that people really like this camera and if it had felt 'right' I was quite prepared to purchase then and there, but it didn't, so I couldn't. After I got home I pulled out our current compact (Konica) which will be 10 years old in a few months. Whilst it has none of the facilities of the X10 it feels better built even though it weighs in at under two thirds that of the Fuji, plus the buttons have a more positive action than the Fuji did and this is a very well used one! If only it had manual override, I probably wouldn't even consider other options!

My mainstay bodies are my 1D4 and 5D2 but I have to say I'm rather impressed by the X10. Six months ago I had a look at some compacts and didn't care for the feel/build quality of most if not all of them. However I felt the X10 to be quite different. It's magnesium alloy body gave it a true metallic feel unlike many compacts out there. Over the past three weeks that I have owned it I've found myself increasing being surprised by what this little camera can do. My only reservation lies not so much with Fuji but Apple who have yet to offer an update to OSX Lion allowing a Mac to read the X10's raw files. Sure it has some idiosyncrasies but far outweighing them are the features and fun it offers. You don't have to pay £391 for it either. £296 utilising the 10% discount against the current offer price in Fuji's refurb store is all you need to pay before some rather useful accessories. However as they say it's your money so you takes your choice ;)
 
Comparing it to an SLR is not a good comparison. Best compare it to other compacts and to me it feels better than those in build quality. I like zooming with the lens and while CSC cameras do this they don' t have an inbuilt viewfinder and holding at arms length and zooming through lens just feels wrong.
I have it set up so I don't tend to use many of the buttons. I have fn for ISO (which is nicely placed by finger) and use C1 and C2 for my two settings that cover 99% of my photos and then just use the wheel (which is nicely placed by thumb) for aperture change or program shift
 
I'm with Ernesto on this one.....
Yesterday I spoke to a bloke who described the the new G1X as feeling plasticky and put him off, but the X10 is still on his (very short) list.
I've had a play with the X100 which felt even more solid than the X10, but as I've said before, if I want a prime then I'll stick with my 5DII and 24 TSE II.

In summary...
Compared to other small cameras, the X10 is one of the best.
And comparing the X10 with a DSLR is like comparing Apples and Oranges. Decent DSLRs have a better all round package for handling, IQ and build quality, but are bigger, heavier, more expensive.
It is a compromise between priorities and convenience.

paul if you were hitting the macro button while selecting the shutter speed then you should have just used the thumb wheel above the command dial
i think the build quality and feel is superb, perhaps your having trouble justifying spending 400-00 on a point and shoot with a few manual settings ;)
