The Official Fuji X10/X20/X30/XF1/XQ1 Thread

Thanks Ed.

I guess that's that. I've been watching videos by The Fuji Guys on this camera on YouTube and the feature-loaded X10 remains probably at the top of my shortlist while I work through my needs which are basically finding a camera that allows me to shoot more discreetly than a DSLR and one that was more portable without having to pay ' red dot ' prices!! ;)

It is discreet. Especially in silent mode. And it's very portable. :)

My honeymoon with the X10 is over now but I'm not seeking a divorce. ;)

Strewth - that takes me back!
Before I took up photography, when I went up in the mountains a lot more than I do now. I was taken by a coup[le of climbers past that into the depths beyond.
They went over the tracks - I refused...
But the scree above it was so loose I had to be put on a rope as they viewed it less safe than the track.
The descent included a miners ladder so corroded the climbers had placed slings on the ladder in case the remaining bolts gave way. And another ladder we crossed with four rungs missing and with a humungous drop beneath.
In the many return visits I've now established where they took me - but only seen it from the opposite mountainside.
Uber special down there though.....

P.S. I don't think he hole was 'quite' so big when I went there - which probably means the drop was steeper....

P.P.S. If you aint been there, then you won't appreciate that that photo does not do justice to the dodgy situation that 'bridge' is in.

P.P.P.S. Love the shot of the saw on Australia level. The shot I've always tried to take (and failed) is the decades old concretions of dust all around those machines - it must have been truly horrendous to work there.

Indeed the very qualities that first attracted me to the X10.

My honeymoon with the X10 is over now but I'm not seeking a divorce. ;)

I dare say that were I to become the owner of a new compact then I am highly likely to end up with the X10. There is much to like about a camera which offers much without the need to venture to red dot pricing territory.

Thanks again Ed

It's a seductive little devil. Every time I think of ditching it I look at what it can produce and change my mind.

Andy's Dinorwic pics are a case in point.

It's also soooooo nice to handle and use!

was two days ago first time in a play with the x10 in a theatre and was once again surprised how well it worked. metering, silencemode, even the AF was fine (85%) also like the IS which is very usable with movenment+ (if auotiso is on, the camera will use a higher iso for shorter exposure time

You have strayed to the dark side Terry, Welcome.

All set on ordering an x100 Duncan and you go and post more shots like this from the x10 lol:bonk:

nice shots duncan

is anybody using a soft release shutter button on there x10

Cheers for the feedback

I will admit to breathing on that image fairly heavily in LR4 and I will also admit it's the first image I've spotted chromatic aberration (tree in top left, single click to fix).
Just so I can't be accused of leading up the proverbial garden path, here's the unmodified image for comparison...

Oh...
In case you hadn't guessed; LR4 and I are getting on just fine :D

Back in the dim and distant early days on this thread thread I worked out how much detail I could pull from the RAW highlights and shadows. Sorry... can't remember off the top of my head. But I do remember that it is impressive!
There's no colour added to this image other than what was already there.
In the straight shot the sky looks blown (it is), but pulled back from the RAW it still looks natural.
I now use RAW all the time.....

Just had an email from my photo-buddy who was stood next to me when I took the other two shots.
She wants to see 'the panormama'.
I didn't put it up, because it is wrong in SO many ways.

So for your general amusement - here's one that went wrong earlier....

I'm not and I'm not sure what you have in mind????
Do you mean a cable release?
I haven't seen one.... But I do use the self timer when the X10 is on a tripod.
see below

I really like my little devil... got it from my local Leica shop.

thats cool do you know what size it is as i am looking at a 10mm one on ebay and do not want it to fowl the mode dial

It is 10mm and doesn't distract from anything.

I can see the amusement value - it would amuse me too!
But what's it like as a soft release?
Does it help or is it really just to make you chuckle every time you use the X10?

For me it makes it easier to press the button - I get a better feel for it. I can imagine that for people with larger hands than mine it might improve the handling even more.

thanks eva i will await delivery of the camera first and then maybe order one

 I don't remember Wells Cathedral being circular

I've been following this thread from the begining and the waivering came to an end on Saturday when my X10 arrived. It makes my old Canon G12 look steam powered!

Hi Michael and others recently posting into this thread; seems to be lots of new X10 owners popping up.

Michael, I've played with a G12 and was quite impressed (but there is no way I'd swap).
What's your opinion on the differences between the two?

A tad early to say as I've only had a brief play with the X10 so far. I'll try to write a direct comparison later in the week however the speed of focus is vastly better along with the, in comparison with the G12, amazing viewfinder.

and the X10 comes with a faster lens too ;)

Look forward to your comparative study Mike.

TBH the X10 is a newer camera so one would expect to find greater technological advances in it. Nevertheless the X10 appears to be a very well conceived camera with plenty to offer both the enthusiast and pro who may not be able to or wish to use a DSLR on every occasion. While I wish it had a better EVF I think I could live with what's in the box.

The G12 while a little older is capable of producing great images. Not that clearcut a choice as I once thought though I'm still leaning towards the retro-styled X10.

I see the X10 is for sale at fotosense for £374 + P&P new.

Mmmm but do I remember reading poor reviews for this seller -- or not

I also would be fascinated in fuller details on G12 v X10.

Don't know about Fotosense. However an online search revealed much.

Here's a thought. If you are not in a hurry you may find that in a month's time, the price may change as is the case with such products.

Why not buy a refurb direct from fuji? Good price, it will have been QC'd by them and still has warranty etc and the discount code might still work!

I have spoken with them too and they have been more than helpful as well! See this thread...

Are you going to buy a Fuji X10?
