My main gripes are that the thumbwheel and rear dial are easily moved accidentally and that my bulb release doesn't fit.

But as a picture making machine it's very good. I'm particularly impressed with the low light capability. The image stabilisation seems very good too.

It is possible to lock the thumb wheels by pressing and hiding one of the buttons (I think the display one?) for a couple of seconds.
 
The case my lovely missus ordered for my birthday arrived this morning...

Twenty quid from good old fleabay. Fit and finish is pretty good and it really adds to the whole 'retro' feel. I'll get a couple of pics posted later. :)

Pressing and holding the display button takes it in and out of Silent Mode.
I think you mean pressing and holding the Menu button ?

Control Lock - from p4 of the manual. To Lock the RAW button and selector button (up, down, Left, right), press Menu/OK until :lock: is displayed. This prevents accidental operation during shooting.

It's not very useful as it has no effect in playback and doesn't lock the annoying ring thing.

It was classic pocket camera stuff.
We left Somerset in awful weather only intending to visit an exhibition of Antarctic photography, but the weather turned fantastic.
Luckily, I'd thrown the X10 into the back of the car; so we headed to amazing Avebury.

Avebury's only eight miles from home for me but I wasn't there as I'd gone for a short waddle round Bradford-on-Avon. Here are just four of the results. DR400 JPEGs with zero PP, just resized in JAlbum. I consciously left the drainpipe in the last one as a distortion test - just the tiniest amount of pincushion? The originals look stunning on my 27" hi-res screen.

Hi,

I'm sure this is a real newbie sort of question to ask but I've been lurking for a while on the forum deciding whether or not to buy an x10. I have noticed the border effect in this lovely picture is used on a number of images, especially in black and white photography. Is that Vignette issues with the lens or something that you can choose to switch on in the x10 as an effect?

Almost certainly done in post-processing. It's certainly not the lens that's vignetting and I can't see how to do it in camera.
 
Interesting thread. I'm currently trying to decide what to buy as a 'holiday' camera and at the moment it's between this, the Leica D-Lux 5 and the GX1.

Some great shots on here.
 
Dman, as you can see here, the X10 comes highly recommended!!
 
I bit the bullet and ordered one yesterday, arrived this morning. Battery on charge so I can play when I get home tonight.
 
Decided to go with the X10, will pick one up tomorrow and start playing.

Hi SD,

Welcome to TP! :)

As Snapshot said, the vignette was done in post... It's a bit of a 'Marmite' thing but I like adding them. It's certainly not a feature of the X10. :)

Now does anyone know where I can source a new x10 for under the 350 mark ;-) Best I've found is 399 new.
 
I must say the panorama feature is a fun way to mess with perspective. It was a misty afternoon, time was running short and I'm sure using a tripod would have helped.

LOL - I reckon you need a warped mind to pre-visualise what a panorama is going to look like.

At least with the X10 it shows you the result. If it doesn't work (I reckon at least 3 out of 4) then it's easy to have another go.
I used to do a lot of stitching (taking landscapes with a 24-105 on a crop sensor); the small stitches were OK, but I rarely kept any of the big panoramas as the composition simply wasn't good enough.

Shame about Liverpool 1 one though - strange hard white object at top of escalators. I've seen mention of something called Orbs somewhere on this site in relation to the X10. Think that may be an example of one of them. I take manly low light architectural shots and water shots (often with lots of reflection) so I rather begrudgingly may have to wait out and skip the x10 :'(

I currently use the old Fuji F30 which produces some lovely shots but I need at least the quality I am used to in that camera if I get a new one.
 
Thinking of one of these, anyone got any pics taken at ISO800 and above in low light/indoors? Thanks
 
Ok, I picked mine up and promptly took it back within 5 minutes. Jessops conveniently didn't tell me that the camera was an ex display model and looked like it was fourth hand at best. They popped it in the bag and took my money, then when I got outside I decided to have a look and was a bit alarmed by the state of the box. I was even more alarmed by the state of the camera itself :gag:

Thumb prints all over the glass, scratches all over the back, it was a mess. It was the only one they had and the store manager then got an attitude with me for not wanting to come back to pick up a new one when they got one in! I'll never use that company again.

Will order one from WEX now with next day delivery, should have done that to begin with only Jessops were throwing in a free memory card.

I'm sure Urdygurdy will be along in a mo - but that looks like good old fashioned over exposure to me. There's two of them and the one that is less bright looks like a shade over the top of the light.
There may well be orbs on some of the tiny points of light like the blue dot at the bottom of the escalator, but there is no way of telling without looking at 100%.

yes i am afraid it is a great example of the "Orbs" as mentioned previously, even if i would have under exposed the photo it possibly would still occurred, it seems kind of random sometimes it happens sometimes it doesn't...its the only problem that the x10 suffers from that i am aware off. Usually it quite easy cover up fom the odd 1 or 2 in cs5, but its still dam annoying especially when i didn't spot them in the photo above :thinking:

I believe Fuji are going to release a firmware upgrade to "Address" this phenomenon

i still love this little camera ALOT :lol:
