The Official Fuji X10/X20/X30/XF1/XQ1 Thread

Mine arrived today. Stumbling through the set up menus ;)

Interesting to see what you think once all set up - were did you buy it from ?

Sounds like you're pregnant.

Did that X100 tell you it loved you? ;)

Yeah exactly

Suppose it is kind of like this with the lower end model X's - they do you some bits from the big siblings

£319 with free Filter/Hood/Cap kit (retails for a silly £79!). Free delivery too. I had £50 credit to spend with them which helped me decide :)

Trying to decide on a suitable bag with some room for odds and ends as well.

I've been looking for a carry solution too. It's too big for a pocket, and the whole point of getting it was so i wasn't dragging a dslr + rucksack around. I think the lowepro dashpoint 20 fits without the hood, and the dashpoint 30 is much more roomy, for batteries and cards etc.

I'm thinking about a small messenger type bag - something to empty my pockets into!

I used a half case for my X20 - works really well I just sling it around my side

I actually transported the camera in the full case then just removes the front part so nice and easy to access

I made myself a flexible 5/8 leather cross body strap for mine, it suits the retro style looks. I can just tuck it under my left arms for protection.
In the old style it gives support for overhead shots, or shortened in the hand for long exposures with the tightened strap round the back of the neck.

The strap that comes with the camera is too short to be useful, and the shape limits how you can use it

I carry my X30 in a ThinkTank Mirrorless Mover 5. It takes the camera with the hood attached and has room for extra cards and batteries but it's too small to be a man-bag.

Well got my grandson an x20 after selling mine last year looking forward to having a play before i give it to him may temp me with an x30 as i can trade in my fooked xf1 and get a new x30 for £299

Anyone who got their X30 from Digitalrev - did you pay import duty, I understand Digitalrev will reimburse you the money but I am just curious

Can someone tell me how to select spot focus please? I'm too old for this :)

Thanks,
AL

EDIT: I think I've got it now. It's Area Focus right?

When I bought my canon 40D and my Fuji X30 from them It came through no problem.
However when my Canon 17-55 F2.8 lens arrived I was charged the tax at the door. I sent digital rev the details and they reimbursed me within 6 hours. They sort everything out their end with customs so it is no problem.
UK customs should not be charging again at entry, as vat and duty is prepaid by Digital Rev. so it is just a matter of them clearing it up and getting their money back.

They only have this arrangement with the UK Customs and Tax, in other countries the customers always pay themselves.

Menu>autofocus setting>af mode

Ironically, area is spot focusing, it uses the focus area which you can move/resize. So for proper spot metering, shrink your af area size.

you can change the size of the focus area by pressing the AF button then rotate the scroll wheel in either direction and it will change size on the screen. ( quicker and easier than using the menu)

you can also move it to any position on the screen after pressing AF by pressing the macro/ flash/ af and time buttons.

if you meant, how do you choose the spot exposure area, it is found by pressing the Q button, then highlight the exposure icon (bottom left) and change the setting with the scroll wheel to show the small solid black dot. ( the size of the area will be the same as you have set for the focus area)

I have changed some of the Q functions on mine to directly control flash compensation, face detection and silent mode. (I have done away with the Q, colour and tone controls as I only shoot in raw and don't need them)

Magic - thanks both. I'm used to the simple (by comparison) Nikon D3200 menu! So much to learn with this. :)

Right, getting there slowly. Must make a mental effort to keep my finger off the front control ring button! Wish it could be disabled or better still had clickable positions.

Any suggestions for a decent wrist strap?

Thanks,
AL

:agree: That's my own solution, plus an ancient lens hood case on the strap for lens hood/and lens cap. Works perfectly

So what do you do then with the front part of the case. Have you got a bag to put it in? :D

I found a bag in the loft which will do for now - Tamrac 5696. Comfortably holds the camera with hood attached plus room for my phone and specs. Just need something now for the sarnies ;)

I only use the 'full' case to transport and leave it in the car, but recently when I went away I took a small bag over the shoulder bag - very small that has loads of pockets and compartments

My problem is grabbing the control ring instead of the zoom ring... though my fingers will learn soon enough.....I hope...

I dont use wrist straps , But I make my own pliable and adjustable leather neck straps.
There seem to be plenty of leather wrist straps on ebay, but they look too
stiff for my taste.

This strap is nearer my taste, i use 1.5 mm nylon myself as a doubled strand fits the Fuji lug.

I've got a Cordweaver strap on m y DSLR - I'll probably go for another one.

Got my X20 in a Lowepro Dashpoint 20 small case that sits on my hip on my belt. Easy access and can just about cram a spare battery in there too. The X20 only just fits in, so I doubt you'd get the X30 in with it being slightly larger?

:agree: I've got a few Cordweaver wrist-straps now and my favourite is the Cordy Cat in Woodland Camo. You can order direct from www.cordweaver.co.uk and there are more options available than if you go via eBay. Plus, of course, Brian gets more of the dosh......

How do you check which firmware edition yuou have? Tried holding thre Display/Back button down when turning camera on but nothing happens.

Thanks,
AL
