Approximately the same as 12mm on a D700 but with significant distortion! Not as much as I get using an 8mm on the D700 though...

In fact you definitely did. You and your sample shots have just cost me another £200, invoice on it's way to you (I told Mrs Sprout that you told us all to buy one, she said to bill you)

Distortion? don't see it myself :D

Have just tried out another m42 lens using the adapter. A Soligor 75-250mm f/4.5

1st shot at f4.5 and second at f8

Hi Nod, Wex have them on pre-order for £849.00, expected in March. Recommended retail £999.00.
 
Not sure whether this is relevant in an X-pro 1 thread but I received my Fotodiox Nikon-X mount adapter yesterday for use on my XE-2 and it makes my Nikon 10-24 VERY useable on this body. The cost of the lens used was about half of the cost of the Wex price for the Fuji equivalent lens. Initial results are very promising.
 
Hi Gary.

Did you order the Nikon/x-mount adapter from Amazon and if so, please could you provide a link... I've been looking at the same thing but there are lots of different ones on there and I'd rather choose one that someone's already using. :)

Hi Si

Will post a linky later when I get on a proper computer. If you do a search for Fotodiox, I got the pro version for about £40 which is very nicely made. Mine is for the G lenses and had aperture control onboard.

The one for the 'G' lenses was the version I'd been looking at. I think I'll end up grabbing one for my old Olympus OM Zuiko lenses. :)

You say "distortion" like it's a bad thing :)

It's always tricky with fisheyes because you kind of have to separate the distortion because it's a fisheye (um, it's a feature not a bug!) from the distortion from imperfect optics. I suggest it's hard to spot the latter in real pictures with this lens (partly because of the former).

8mm on your D700 - is that the Sigma? Yeah, circular is pretty distorted :)
 
Yup, the Sigma fisheye - as you say, pretty distorted!!! I use a Sigma 12-24 on the D700 and that's extremely well corrected for distortion even at the wide end. ;) (I don't use smileys as often as I should since when using a touch screen, they seem to get plonked at the beginning of a post and it's a PITA to shift them! I have a rather poor memory so can't remember many of the easy codes - I suppose I should print me off a list!)
 
New firmware updates this morning..
- 56mm compatibility fixes/improvements for the X-Pro1
- OIS improvements to zoom lenses

No sign of colour focus-peaking, which is the FW update I'd like to see.
 
To answer Si's question above. I recently acquired this:

It is well-made and works exactly as you might imagine. The aperture control onboard has only four settings but this seems to cover the range from wide open to f(something huge) pretty well.

This is for use with a Zeiss Jena 35f2.4 M42 lens which is a very nice bit of glass which I had lying around the house and which has been unused for a decade. With the adapter it is uber-easy to MF on the XE-2 and gives great images. To anyone interested I was hesitant to buy this particular M42-X adapter because the image on Amazon shows it with chewed-up screws and I thought it would be a dog. I was though pleasantly surprised that the screws are recessed and the item is of very decent build quality. I am sure you can find better made but for a tenner or so I am VERY pleased.

The Fotodiox came from the States and took just under a week to arrive. I am sure I have read elsewhere on the web that other people have waited longer so maybe I just got lucky ?

Worth the wait though.

That'll teach me to nip into the camera shop to get out of the rain! I was walking past the shop when the heavens opened so slipped in to shelter from the downpour to be greeted with "Ah! Mr Nod! Your X-Pro kit is in, have you come to collect it?" Well, I wasn't expecting it to be in so I didn't have the D800 on me. :(
Never mind, I've waited for 18 months to get my driving license back so another few days to pick up a new toy is nothing!

Are you getting rid of your D800 and buying an X-Pro1 instead?
 
Yup. Keeping the D700 though. The main reason I bought the D800 was to allow fairly heavy crops to gain extra apparent reach but since buying a V-1 and FT-1, I can get the extra reach in a far lighter package. In the year or so I've had the D800, I've taken only 500 or so shots with it. Not much point in keeping it so it's being traded in.
 
More info... Although you can find smaller lenses with the same mag level the issue is image quality, especially sharpness and vignetting. Having a large front element eliminates the vignette issues but you still end up with edge softness but far less than with a smaller lens and the center is very sharp, this doesn't bother me as it adds to the look of the portraits I take.

I ordered a TTR7 yesterday from Speedgraphic. It cost me a new leather suite to butter Clare up. When we got home from buying suite, I said " after looking at camera bags the guys on the forum recommend the TTR7 as they are useful for the people who have roughly the same kit as me, order it and keep of that forum" Who am I to argue with that. Placed order yesterday afternoon and it's out for delivery this morning. Not bad as it's free delivery.
The bag cost £114.00 which is one of the cheapest for UK stock including delivery.

Next plan is to hit her for a tripod, probably do it in a few weeks when suite is delivered.:D

There is no Fuji version of 50mm available (yet), youre thinking of the wide angle converter. Center quality is very good, softens up at the edges.

Might make for a nice portrait or still life addition. Not sure I really need one but if the price is right it's got to be worth a try....
 
My Retrospective 7 arrived @ 09.20hrs this morning, considering I didn't order it until 14.00hrs yesterday thats excellent service from Speedgraphic.(y)

Thanks for the recommendations folks it seems like a very well made and useful bag.
 
I'll be sending off for the free 60mm soon. Do you have to wait the 14 days as with the money cashback?
 
You do have to wait the 14 days, yes. My 60mm took 7 or eight days to arrive. However, mine was faulty so had to request a replacement which was hassle free and arrived a week later.

On an unrelated note... Is there any reason to NOT use the Auto DR function? It adds a lot more dynamic range with no adverse effects as far as I can see. Even though DR400% requires an ISO of 800 to use it's still no problem because IQ is pretty much identical to that of ISO 200. Am I missing something?

Bought mine today on a whim ! Now I have to sell some gear to offset the cost, anyone want to buy a mint X10, Canon 5D mk1 , Canon 50mm F1,4 or Canon EF-M 22mm F2 ?
Took a few test shots this afternoon, very impressed, sharp as a very sharp thing, which free lens should I go for ? I was thinking of the 35mm.
 
The 35mm is brilliant. I went for the 60mm as the free one, just waiting until I can send it off. I bought the 35mm at the time as I wanted both and its cheaper. Its so good I'm starting to wonder how much I will use the 60mm. May sell that and the 18 at some point to put toward the 14 or 56
