The official (Bah Humbug) Olympics thread

Really not getting it at all! So is this the part where they individually announce the 200 and something countries?

No idea

The TV is downstairs in the Off position (Plug outta the wall too ;))
like most nights,
and I am upstairs in my little den

I found Vera on ITV was way better. I kept checking when the adverts came on... at least until the point I wanted to throw up then went back to Vera. Once that finished I switched over to the "News" which was basically just a continuity of the wretched ceremony! But I do have a load of recorded stuff to watch on disk so all is not lost!

Well what a croc that all was, last night (ok barring RA, & Bond. But only tha Palace part of it).

Team Chav ... Nice design, Stella  .... Had to go and cover our bunting in tin foil, to blend in.

Enola Gay, was a classic choice, NOT

My mother in law was due to have an operation at the hospital yesterday a few miles away from the stadium. All day she had it put back and back until at 5 her operation was cancelled due to staff shortages... then i hear that in part of the ceremony one of the acts was performed by nhs staff. It actually annoyed us cos the mother in law went in thusday evening just to be ready for the op friday morning at 7am. Then wasted a whole day getting messed about and then kicked out. Now we know why they were short staffed, I guess keyhole surgery and checking the womb for any traces for cancer just isn't top priority anymore

Loads of empty seats in the swimming pool. What a farce.

Wonder if we'll ever be told just how many tax-funded seats got allocated to our burgeoning banking industry? They clearly couldn't get up this morning - too busy feeding their gambling addiction with our national wealth to turn up and support people who have only spent years trying to be the best in the world.

What a waste of time and money.

1. What about the people who live in London, work there who are experiencing massive disruption and noise
2. What about those who need to do business in London, but will find travel more awkward.
3. What about the money, for a booming economy a publiv vanity event, fair do.
4. What about the sinister level of security, policing and rules about VISA cards only etc.
5. Atheletics is not that popular here in Britain, not compared to FIFA and EUAFA football competitions.

Load of rubbish and seeing clips on the news about that silly ceremony I cannot see what the fuss is about.

I thought that the first half before the queen came on was good
A bit of a tourism advert for Britain but it was imaginative
I mean the history part covering the industrial revolution thought that was excellent
Rest was crap tho and it would not have hurt the queen to smile!
Am still against having the Olympics tho big waste of public money
Apparently the companies running it and sponsoring it don't have to pay tax

That's terrible :shake:
I hope she gets her "Op" soon

Don't get me wrong - I'm massively in favour of the Olympic tradition, but I cannot stand the commercialism and the "emperor's new clothes" manifesto, whereby everyone making a massive profit or collecting a salary from these Games is unquestionable because of the "spirit of the Games" which they are actually sullying.

I thought it might be worth trying to document some of the bull****.

Here's a picture of the Equestrian venue "stuffed to the gunnels" according to Seb Coe, and described by the BBC commentator shortly after this footage as almost completely full:

Still, it was only Zara Phillips, so perhaps Seb's going to tell us the spectators were all popping out for Coca-cola™ and Big Macs™ to come back in time for their favourite riders.

I've just seen this...

In December the head of the National Audit Office warned of the risk of the government exceeding its Olympics budget of £9.3billion.

This figure includes the build of the venues and the £600million police and security budget. The government has just allocated an extra £41million (with a £7million contingency) from this budget to Locog to pay for the Opening Ceremony, which is set to cost £81million total.

Other than saying that I thought the previously reported £27 million was a lot I've no other comment.

I have changed my mind about the opening ceremony. It offended the Daily Wail greatly with it's multi culturalism and celebration of the nhs so for that reason I'm in much greater favour of it.

No interest in the tedious sport whatsoever.

the opening ceremony outfits weren't designed by stella they were designed and supplied by NEXT, stella designed the outfits worn during the games themselves

as far as i copuld tell they were designed by someone who was off their face on stella artois - very similar

Moving away from the Opening Ceremony and onto the Olympics themselves. I went yesterday, and was totally impressed with everything.
The transport system was coping very well. Crowded on the tubes. But not on the platforms, or in the stations. Gates even left open so we didn't have to put our tickets in.

So many helpers around. All smiley and cheery. The venues were great too.

It really was mightily impressive. Well done to everyone, from Seb Coe right down to those doing the smallest most menial of tasks.:clap:

Well not only did the opening ceremony win me over but the A2 and Blackwall Tunnel has never been so empty so our commute to the City is super speedy.

Work have decided to put up a huge tv in the canteen with it on all day :bang:
Funny thing is the girls all moaning that they can't have Jeremy Kyle on :bonk:

I think I'd rather watch Jeremy Kyle whoever he is:gag:

come to think of it, I'd rather have my eyes poked out with a sharp stick.

Much as I'm not keen on watching the Olympics... neither of the alternate choices really appeals to me! :suspect:

This thread's pretty dead now! Hasn't been posted in since last month - it's run its course!

... Probably time for the Mods to lock it :naughty:

Thanks for the Bump J

and its still crap viewing on tele :shake:

:p

If it gets locked all those that find the lympics tedious will start posting in the one dedicated to this boring spectacle. If that's you want though....

I'm out of this camp now and absolutely loving it all :D

Your telly obviously isn't working properly. :naughty:

Or just Maybe because it rarely gets switched on these days, ( and not just because of the last week or so)

Except for the lad to play some ninja zombies, kill 'em all let God sort em out,
type game ;)

So, to answer Ozei, it does work, you're just not using it properly! :nono:

I'd trade every British medal to win the 100m sprint. That's all that really matters.

I think that its being used to the best of its (our) broadcasting abilities TBH ;)
