The Not-Quite-So-New Photography Cartoon Thread

Merry Christmas Ian !!!

This has been a great thread this year - hope you keep it going for 2012.

Cheers! I've got a few ideas knocking about in my little black book, so as always, watch this space.
I've been doodling since I was 6 (I did this amazing life-like drawing of a "Man Of War" type galleon ship which I've still got to this day - that's when I realised I've got this talent). Since I'm in my mid-40's, I can't see no reason why this won't last out into the new year. :D :naughty:

Not quite photographically related, but that'll keep this thread going into 2012. :D

Have a good one Ian

And here it is, the first cartoon of 2012!

I'll admit to saying that I got the general idea from somewhere on the internet, but the cartoon is completely my own's.

Just read through the whole thread, you really are a talented man Ian. These are fantastic, well done :)

For those who are into canal-side photography . . .

enjoyed these ,managed to get a smile on a cold january morn.:)

Just when you thought I had completely neglected this thread.

"Freeze" action photography during a cold "snap"?

C'mooooon, you gotta give me some slack!

We've all been tempted to do this - or even done it - when it comes to waiting for that camera-related item to turn up in the post. C'mon, be honest . . .

However,
I'm gonna PM that link to a postie friend of mine, on here
Stand by for the flack :D

Brilliant Ian, and of course I've never been tempted

On another note, I hope you don't mind me saying, but I much prefer this style of your work to the previous two which utilise a photograph for a background. Just personal taste I guess, not knocking your work at all

Hi Andrew! Not at all - it's a good way of knowing whether it works or not. I do like the idea to a certain extent and it's handy to know I could do this kind of photoshopping in the first place.
I think it may work on a local scale using local landmarks and local references so that people may "relate" to it but that would only appeal to a limited auidence in any case . . . but again, it's all in the experimentation.
It does seem that my "trademark" uncluttered background does have merit as it keeps the clutter to a minimum - especially if it has nothing to do with the joke in question in any case.

As I say, purely personal tastes. The first works better for me but not sure why

Certainly love looking at your work so what you waiting for..... get those pens working :D

:D After years of doing this kind of thing, I have learnt one thing; the cartoon drawing part is easy - that's the fun part. But the hardest part is coming up with ideas to "back it up" :bonk: :help:
I try not to get too lazy and look up on the internet and copy an existing idea. Instead I let my mind roam freely and if something does spring to mind then I try and put it onto paper as soon as I can.
Although I will be honest and say that sometimes I might remember an old joke I've read somewhere in the past then I adapt that to suit my own style.

Now, this one as shown below came straight out of my head. While it isn't photography-related but you can see how my mind does work . . .

always good to see another post on here :)

I can imagine the fun part (if you've got the talent you have), and likewise I can imagine the difficulty in gathering ideas :gag:

Magic Ian, the canal boat one brought back a memory from way back.
I took a young lady out on a 2 seater motor boat at the seaside, we where in a sheltered bay.
After a bit I thought it would be good to go further out from the sheltered bay.
Well, it don't take Einstein to work out, the boat started to rock violently,I just smiled a reassured Her it was quite safe, but seeing as She was upset we would return.

Just to say that after we got back I had to check my underwear for stains.

Hi! Thought I'd bring this thread back to life with my latest cartoon done only a few minutes ago.

Indeed, we all know how it is . . .

Actually, I'm in the process of doing a 365 project - not, not photography related - but involving my cartoon drawing - and this above cartoon is today's addition.

You can follow it's progress via this: http://thegreatdoodle.blogspot.co.uk/

With our summer being as it is, it comes as no surprise that many of us are yearning to get away from it all . . .

Just managed to avoid doing any work for quite a while looking through the back posts! I hope you manage to keep posting the cartoons; they're really great :D

Hi James. Whoops, but at least it made for a pleasant distraction. :D I do scatter my cartoons around this part of Talkphotography (there's a couple in the football thread), so you may have fun looking for them. :naughty:

Being on TP a few years now strangely enough its the first time I came across this thread. Absolutely brilliant!!! Thank you Ian

It has been a while since I put an actual photo-related cartoon into this thread.

Well, here's a fresh new one, hot off the press . . .

Awww shucks, thank you!

I might have somewhat neglected this thread - but I'm still as prolific as ever with my cartoon drawings. I have to be in order to keep a 365 project going.

The 365 project being in the form of The Great Doodle where I'm almost one-third of the way into: http://thegreatdoodle.blogspot.co.uk/
