Yes
I recently bought a SB-24 from ebay as I want to get into strobist stuff abit more.

When it arrived I found an ancient set of energiser batteries in it which have leaked battery acid and corroded the contact points.

I'm not really sure if the flash is working properly, its very noisy when reclying and takes ages,it also seems to be swallowing battires at an unmanagable rate, simply turning its self off. and consuming eneragy alot faster than my YN460II

as an exspreiment I then put those used battires from the SB24 into my SB600, and it still worked. Althought it did have a slower recycle time.

Is it just a case that the modren flash guns are more effecent or is my SB-24 not working properly?

Cheers Stuart

I'm not a Nikon expert but I was under the impression the SB24 would not work with digital cameras, at least properly anyway.

yes, it is quite noisy. yes, it probably does eat batteries a wee bit faster than the sb600, yes, it does only go down to 1/16th power.

However, it was cheap, so are rechargeable batteries, and the power output from the sb24 is about half a stop more than an sb600 iirc, think it's about the same as an sb900.

does sound a wee bit dodgy though :/ make sure you clean all the battery contacts off well - use a pencil eraser.

I have SB-24 and it works nicely, recycles in few seconds to full with fresh batteries. It does make humming sound when charging. Try using fresh batteries it can make the difference. :)
