Let's see what they've done.

5K iMac looks desirable if it is not too glossy and with decent colour gamut. However, £2k price tag is almost half of my-to-be Tuareg. Not good :( And they have retained all the old ones at the same prices...

The minis now are largely overpriced and slowed down compared to 2012 models. It makes NO sense at all to upgrade to / buy these. The pricing of options like i7 processor or more RAM (hopefully still user replaceable) are totally outrageous. 15" retina MBP finally sounds like a total bargain

ipad - couldn't care less as long as iOS is as restrictive. It's like a car limited to 40mph and first 3 gears only.

Price on the iMac is lower than I thought it would be (though I hadn't put too much thought to it). The screen from a couple of video glimpses, looks shiny as all hell. To be expected, but still annoying. There's still that big hole in the lineup, that I guess there always will be. Could be filled by a less crippled MacMini, but then they would sell fewer iMacs.

iPads - I'm still not sure what they're for, besides an expensive way to entertain kids in the car.

You can't please some people. The price for the 5K Dell Screen alone is equivalent to an iMac ;) So you get a free computer

as for 5k. this is quickly turning into a camera mega pixel like war.
Agreed it doesn't mean anything anymore. I even found it hard to find the actual size of the screen in many reviews.

I think the reasoning behind the 5K option is that you can get a 4K image on the screen in FCPX and still have real estate around the edges. I'm reserving any judgement until I see one in the flesh.

Interesting though the iPad air2 has a less glossy screen due to a filter layer. Surprised they didn't do that as an option

It's a shame the Mac Mini didn't get as much of an upgrade as many hoped for. However they did state that the looked on the mini as the "introduction to Mac" device. So they needed to keep the price point as low as possible. Also I believe that the memory is soldered in so limited upgrade path.

I am not complaining about 5K imac yet, but I may when I see it in person. However 2 grand is significant investment; it might just make sense to wait for mk2 when prices of panels go down...

What I am not pleased with is the retention of old models at same prices (the very old non-retina MBP anyone?) and the more expensive but slower mac mini.

That actually makes sense. I hope there is new wider colour space to match 4k standard too.

Just checked with Apple . The Retina iMac has the same colour gamut as the rMBP. So it's not a wide gamut monitor.

I like the idea of a 5K screen, but as a photographer - who leans over the desk to make sure a line is sharp? personally the zoom button is always used, I use a 27'' 2012 iMac and never struggle with the Res - they're trying to compete in a war that's not even started. First it was OS X vs Win 8, now it's a dick waving contest

That's me out then. I'll wait for a fully finished product at that price :)

Buy one of those dell wide gamut or eizo things - they're supposed to be excellent and cost less than a mac 5k screen. My Mac screen for my mac pro was a mistake really.

Already got effing Dell U2711. It's frankly built like dog's turd but it will have to do for another year, and thus mac mini '12 i7 x4 16GB also stays.

The dell 27" with 5120x2880 screen res sounds really good and an ideal size - they do a 32" 3840x2160 screen but I think 27" is a better size in many ways. I'm not sure how windows 8.1 will cope with a high dpi screen though as text would be too small at native res I expect.

even "better" shafting. The RAM in the new mini is soldiered. They can have it. I truly hope they sell off mac line or at least we see proper competition from Google linux desktoo devices in the near future.
