The New Lomography MC-A. The new AF point and shoot.

Just checked mine that is going back without being delivered. Customs is still outstanding and it now seems to be held to 'verify value' which suggests they've completely ignored everything from UPS. I can see them getting customs charges for both ways :rolleyes:

I got a letter after it had already gone back (classic RM) listing the outstanding customs duties from the inward journey!

It's made it out of customs at least now. I shall laugh if they do the same thing and it sits undelivered due to outstanding duty there and we end up in an endless game of it ping ponging to and from Austria :LOL:

There's quite a few claiming mis spaced frames are 'normal' with film cameras but looking through a lot of my old negatives and it isn't. Most of them are consistent with the odd fat bar and the odd thin one but never had any over lap on any other camera.

If one was cheap enough I probably would but it's not cheap enough yet. The hi-matic I've got is similar as in it's AF but manual frame advance like the Lomo so I want to see how well that goes first. :banana:

From ffords for the T5:-
if selling on commission sale we would expect you to get back approx. £210-260 nett once sold after commission has come off (this is what you will get) or if you are looking for New or other Pre-owned equipment we can offer you part-exchange credit this would allow you approx. £170-220

It all depends on whether you want to risk eBay or not and at least double that if it’s in good condition. Don’t forget, they’re a business needing profits. Plus they’ll have to take the risk of having it returned if it decides to stop working in a week. That credit looks too low for what they’re worth though.
 
Harrison cameras are worth asking as well. Sometimes they offer more and sometimes less.

With a couple of fixes this will be an instant buy, for me.

Just got another Yashica T3 in 'mint' condition. Boxed, as new. Two rolls in, it's skipping frames at random. Just like the other one I had.

Olympus XA: I've had 2. Both of them 'MINT++++' jobs from japan. The XA overexposed like crazy and had a misaligned rangefinder. The XA4 had a problematic lens resulting in one side of all images being constantly blurry. A lot of money spent, Holga-style level of rubbish images from both, lost customs+VAT and a massive waste of time to return them and try to recoup some of the money.

So now I'm really, really done with used P&S cameras. It's a game I don't have time to play anymore.

Going forward, It's either a revised Lomo or a future Pentax 17 full frame for me. Or just my phone for snapshots and my Nikon SLRs for general film photography.

I've heard a lot of negative stories about Japanese sellers mis describing a lot of their stock as Mint when it just isn't.

Got the minolta tele super, minolta weather matic, hi matic, nikon 35 AF to test out so it'll be interesting to see if they remain ok or just die randomly. I usually stick with Ffordes or Harrison cameras as I think they test their stock a bit more carefully than Ebay sellers do.

I'm hedging with a mix of both used and new to see what is ok and what isn't. So far the used has won as it there's only been the canon that failed on the second or third roll. Some of the new ones couldn't even complete one roll without massive issues. The two kodak cameras, Snapic and H35N, have been the best of the new ones after the 17.

I hope pentax do FF version of the 17 as I'd have one as well.
 
When Pentax launched the 17 there was great play on the fact that skills were being lost and had to be re-learnt. I wonder if the current problems are simply a result of people not knowing how to make a film camera in this day and age?

Almost certainly. If a long-standing camera manufacturer like Ricoh / Pentax found it challenging, then a company with less experience will probably find it much more so.

Maybe? for a mechanical camera or something like a T90 etc. If something works you copy and the Chinese are good at that.....I would think for something simple you buy a few old compact cameras, take them apart and see how they work and copy parts you are interested in.

So far looking and only ffords are interested in selling the T5 on commision (£210-£260), buy prices on ebay are amazing (up to £499)......buy it now in camera stores are about £175-£230 :(

I’ve not finished the roll yet. Got about 5-6 frames left I think.
I’ve been busy at work so not had chance to go out, any spare time it’s been raining. I daren’t risk it in the rain, it might melt or explode lol!
I think I’ll develop it myself, I’ve dug around in my cupboard and I do still have some orangey & crusty looking 110 left.

My snapic never arrived either. Had the tracking number but it had no tracking on RM. Had to go to eBay and claim a refund. Think I’m just going to use my old sprocket rocket for work.

Shame you don't like Bristol cameras as they're doing the Snapic for £90 inc delivery. Had a few things from them recently and not had any issues at all.

I got £10 off with a voucher at the time. I’ve now not got the camera or voucher :ROFLMAO:
Something will turn up for me to use. I’m going to check my sprocket rocket is still good. That’s plenty good enough for when I’m out working, just too big for most pockets.

Have you heard whether they’ve improved the mc-a on the newer versions?

Nothing concrete that has been proved by anyone yet. I think Matt Loves Cameras that did the snapic side to side has had a replacement. Will wait and see what his is like.

I doubt if there will be anything solid one way or another for a month or two at least.

The Kodak H35N is a good pocketable size and being half frame you get a lot of shots to a roll which may or may not be a good thing :LOL:

Think I’m best sticking to full frame. It takes me weeks(months :ROFLMAO:) to get through a roll on the 17.

I keep saying that I’m going to stick to 24 rolls but my brain won’t compute when I see a 24 for £10 and a 36 for £10.99!! The bargain always wins over the right choice:headbang:

I've now decided, and purchased, a brand new 35mm camera after my disappointment with the MC-A. I've gone for a Chroma Click from our very own @stevelmx5

I saw on the F&C Chroma thread that the "double glass" 24mm lens had been released but I don't own a Leica or any M39 mount camera. Looking around the Chroma site I saw the Click that has that lens and hit the "buy" button. It also does half frame which I'm very fond of.

Alternative brand new cameras considered and rejected were the Kodak/Reto's Snapic A1 and H35N.

If I like the camera I may purchase a Chroma Six6 and use my Mamiya Press 90mm lens. If I did buy a Six6 that and the Click costs £75 less than the MC-A.

I'm not expecting any manufacturing issues with the Click but if there are I am confident they will be resolved very quickly.

Didn’t know that there was a complete compact. Thought they were all medium format bodies. Looks interesting.

I had a good look round and beyond the Lomo the only other brand new camera with full aperture and shutter control is the Leica M Type 127 - that is 5 grand and whilst no longer made there are a couple of new, warranted available.

Then it's onto plastic fixed focus/aperture/shutter cameras which are numerous. The most interesting and best quality, including lens, to me is the Chroma Click.

I'm guessing it's not been released long going by the announcement of the "double glass" M39 lens just yesterday on the F&C Chroma thread.

Edit: The Click was released Dec 2025.

Edit Edit: I'll start a new thread for my Chroma Click when it arrives. I won't have to read about the MC-A then :)
