The New Lomography MC-A. The new AF point and shoot.

Mine was fine. I just rewound at a steady pace.
Think I’ve got some old hc110 in my office cupboard. I may develop/scan this myself rather than wasting money sending it off and paying. There’s nothing super important on the roll. They’ve probably all overlapped 10mm each side anyway knowing my luck!

Lomo replied in 1 hour 53 mins. Can't argue with that. Pre-paid return label enclosed. They want me to send the serial number - not an issue.

They say serial numbers usually start BE or BF. Makes me wonder if they have done 2 different batches. Academic for me now.

Well what is it I don't get? What is wrong with all the compact cameras made in the past? At the bootie bought about 10 at silly prices from Nikon to Ricoh and they all gave sharp shots.:confused::confused:

Because people want new cameras to be made. Old cameras will fail eventually, the supply is finite, and repairs of compact point-and-shoot models are either impossible, or prohibitively expensive.

By supporting companies when they bring new film cameras to market it shows that there are customers wanting to buy and that the R&D and manufacturing investment is worthwhile.

They aren't as available at car boot sales as much these days, that initial glut "oh, I've gone digital" is long gone unfortunately.

I continue to buy used P&S cameras but I've had a number fail, perhaps not surprising at 25-30+ years old.

Well Ok good point, but how many old compact cameras can you buy for the price of a new one...for me I treat most of my SLRs as throw away cameras if they stop working, same for old compacts (if I used them). All the compacts I bought were working and have given most away but still have four left, but can't be bothered to see if they work after years of not being used.

You appear to have completely missed or not read @FishyFish comment. Eventually all old film cameras will be broken and gone, we need new cameras.

Also, we don’t ask you to justify why you want to use old gear and we don’t have to explain why we want to buy new. However, if you read this thread through, I’ve posted numerous times why I want new.

I do also use old cameras, a couple are ok but the rest are rubbish. Even the working ones are very unreliable or untrustworthy.

I had a compact delivered last week and it was DOA. I’d rather have a working new one than 20 old wrecks that are dead or dying.

...and you didn't read my posts re "Well what is it I don't get?" and replied to fishyface about buying new camera re "Well Ok good point"......as for your comment "Also, we don’t ask you to justify why you want to use old gear and we don’t have to explain why we want to buy new"...so where have I mentioned don't buy a new camera?

Where was the compact from? I wonder if some of the outlets test their stuff more than others. So far I've had very little bother with anything bought from Harrison cameras (kiss of death!)

It’s your attitude towards buying new that will be the end of film cameras. I never said you mentioned don’t buy new. Personally, I’m sick of justifying or explaining why I want a new one.

You asked what is you don’t get and got a reply. You then continue to push the quantity of old cameras you can buy for the cost of new.
I’ve heard this all before when the 17 came out. The pretentious film shooters who won’t buy new or hate digital cameras.
Jesus, it’s getting worse than listening to golfers or train spotters.

LOL calm down and accept there are many opinions about film or digi cameras new or S/H and those with money is no problem........ then always buy new.

Brian, you’ve obviously taken things the wrong way. I don’t need to calm down.
I can’t speak for other buyers but here’s my more detailed answer.

Photography for me is a luxury. The most important thing I have is time, whether that be for work or family. I haven’t got time to trawl around a car boot on Sunday or sift through charity shops for bargains. When I go out with a camera (rare these days) I want it to work. I don’t want it to be a gamble on when it dies or craps out halfway through a £20 roll of film. If the new camera does die it’s under warranty so I haven’t got to chase down another car boot deal.

If your pleasure is having 10 old cameras and you get a thrill from thats, fine. Some work, some don’t.
I just want one camera that works.

There’s my main reason for buying new and my answer to your question.

It would be a really sad world if we liked and did the same things.

You'll find this amusing..my wife used a compact camera (I don't) and the only reason I bought about ten compacts (when they were going for peanuts years ago) was to say to wife "I thought you would like another camera" and to see the look on her face. :D
But this thread has got me interested in seeing if my remaing four still work after about 10 years....Yashica T5, Nikon AF210, Konica Z up 70 and Ricoh YF-20. The Ricoh iris doesn't change with light conditions but I get a warning when to use flash, I can't believe it has a fixed iris setting?

lol! Buying a camera for your wife, I still use that trick today. When she pinched my xhalf, I bought her a Pentax 17. Thats now mine (y)

Fixed focus/aperture is great for a camera that anyone can use. You want to check if they’re all working and eBay them if you don’t use them, the t5 will fetch a good amount.
EBay bidders are paying ridiculous prices for stuff.

I used to use compacts years ago, mainly when I got “the look” if I mentioned taking cameras on holidays etc.. I started on them again before lockdown but every single one has died. Plus the prices of some have become ridiculous- £2000+ some of them fetch!! They’re just handy to carry when we go out and I don’t need to carry a bag of kit or I take the dog for a walk. Most of our favourite snaps are from film compacts. Dare I say, even using disposables:oops: :$

My son bought my wife, at 65, a digi compact and it just confused her o_O but I'm not a happy bunny ATM as the once excellent Nikon AF210 doesn't work anymore, waiting for cr123a batteries for others.

The Nikon is easy/cheap to replace, but just checked eBay and the nice t5’s are fetching £500. One recently sold for £499.99.
If you don’t like compacts, that’s a nice amount to put to another camera if you sell it, or treat your wife for valentines :D

I'll send the Yashica T5 to FFordes as they will check it out before selling, hope it still works after 10 years.

Well I'm sad the Nikon AF210 is now dead as 14 years ago it took some VG pictures  the smudge is my finger in the way  anyway I only paid 50p for it(y)

Well I got the Nikon AF210 working perfectly again, the iris opens to the light conditions and the flash automatically fires when the light is too low (y) the sad thing is......... I'll never use this camera or my other compacts again as prefer to use my SLRs.

Sell them on then, Brian.

You'll make a bit of money and someone else will get to give the cameras a new lease of life. It feels like a shame to keep them and not use them.

Well Nige I'd love to reply but it would throw the thread in a different direction o_O

My MC-A was dropped off at the Post Office, proof of posting obtained. Apparently it's up to 14 days for a refund so we'll see.

Interesting. My return label sent mine off to Austria via DHL. Was yours UK or still Austria?
The pre-paid return label, Tracked 48, was for a named individual at a distribution company with a commercial Milton Keynes address. It's not a distribution company I've heard of previously but as long as they get the camera that's all that matters to me.

I'm guessing Lomo have had to set something up for the UK market which suggests to me an occasional MC-A return to Austria is no longer suitable.

The QC on these is awful. They could’ve made a killing on these but rushed them out.
I just want a new 35mm compact that will last a few years, it’s not much to ask is it?

The more I keep seeing buyers posts, I pretty much know that mine will heading back eventually. I love it too, but I know how this will play out. Such a shame :(

Lomo have certainly done a good job of snatching defeat from the jaws of Victory. It's not as if they're new to making cameras but you would expect them to ensure they work properly. Having a £50 plastic tat camera over lap frames and misbehave is far more forgivable than having a £450 one do the same.

I’ve had their plastic cameras before and they never had issues. The internals looked similar to the mca apart from having the usual top rewind knob. Sure they had one row of sprockets too. Spacing was fine and they never actually fell apart. They literally had to put a metal body around the plastic internals with a better lens.

Can’t believe how they’ve cocked this up.

Weather is good here today, best in a while. Unfortunately I’m stuck at work so can’t finish the roll!
How are getting on with the A1?

It keeps raining so it's mostly wasted a few frames on the cat!

Photos of cats are NEVER a waste!!!

That's told me! With 5 cats of varying ages and all different coats, I have no excuses. I'd better start posing them (yeah, right!)

"Lost" ours just before lockdown and photos of her are still the only ones we really look at often!

The full refund on my MC-A is showing as pending in my banking app. Whilst my dissatisfaction with the camera is well documented on here I so far can't fault their refund process especially as they only received the camera yesterday.

Edit: Also received an email from them confirming receipt of camera and they have commenced refund.
